If you do re watch, you can see Sully in the van following them to her grandmother's. He even drives past the window while they're talking at the table. Once he pulled up on her while she was alone I called it instantly. Keep an eye out for the van in the background if you watch again

Something I thought was bizarre the whole film was they always wore white while consuming. Sully in his lil tidey whiteys and marren in the white sweater of the old woman in the opening scene and the contrast of lee's white pale chest in the grocery store scene and then again all white when they're swimming. Is it some weird symbol of their purity for never having consumed "bones and all" just food for thought. I agree I feel darker having seen this film it's through provoking and well acted and casted

My theories ... 1) Many believe addiction is passed down, even hereditary. The flashbacks of her father "eating" shows she was exposed to this early on. Like addiction, whether it's hereditary or not, she was always destined to be an "eater" as well. 2) through her travels she found love, comfort, and companionship with other eaters. Much like addicts, they gravitate towards other addicts and can even "sense" them much like the eaters did in the film. Later on when they find a way to suppress the "addiction" an eater from the past emerges to pull them back in. This is common with drug addiction as well. 3) the scene where she met two other eaters it was discovered one had the genetic curse, and the other "chose" to be an eater. Like the previous statement, whether hereditary or chosen, addiction hits individuals in different ways. 4) in the end the addiction has such a stronghold that it ultimately claims the life of a person close to you. Such is true with the "eaters."

As someone with these same sort of problems I saw these parallels as well, she looks into her past to try and figure things out and begins to form relationships she might not have along the journey. Even though she hates what she is she has trouble denying it and just when the sun is peaking over the horizon for her it falls again. There’s also a very specific loneliness the movie portrayed that feels a lot like the isolation one might face from their family and trying to fill these gaps with “feeding” on others or hurting them because you just feel like you have to make these decisions that other people wouldn’t

@camjam6112

@@nikolasfausto4237 basically what happens is they have these cannibalistic desires as children, when they get older they have to “feed” or they lose control over it and just feed at will. This is kinda shown in this one sleepover scene(*spoiler* she bites someones finger) the thing about this is that there are more than just her and while they don’t have “powers” per say they can sense eachother through smell. I would say they are born cannibals based on the fact that they smell eachother and they have a distinct thinv that makes them different than regular people.

My opinion on the whole "bones and all" thing: She struggles with eating at all throughout the film and is fighting her impulses. But eating someone "bones and all" would be an extreme show of desperation and savagery. She mentions how it would be physically impossible, and to feel the desire and have the ability to eat bones would isolate her and make her feel less human more than ever.

There are a couple things you missed; his first victim was not his father. When he asked Marin who her first was, she said a babysitter. He responded with "Really? Me too." Also when Marion finds Sully's leather case with the hair in it, it has a blonde braid in it which is thought to be Lee's sister's hair so Sully killed Lee's sister and ate her as well.

I interpreted bones an all as a metaphor for drug abuse. the act of “eating” can be symbolic of addicts and how their addiction may not only result in loss of their life but ruins and interrupts the lives of those they encounter on their journey. Sully seems to be a manifestation of that addiction. One’s inability to let go of urges and he instead embraces them, going insane. It’s as if they ar kids playing with “drugs” and it gets too real for them consuming them. She survives but to truly move on she has to consume him bones and all and all evidence of their passionate but toxic relationship.

Did she die as well and they are together? I don’t know, but it did look a little bit like a heaven scene. When he’s dying, he’s saying “eat me, it will be so beautiful“. I did want to point out something that made me think the ending could have gone another direction. *SPOILER AHEAD* There is a moment when Lee is having a dream sequence or premonition of sorts. It shows him with the exact stab wound to his chest but healed and scared over. I think either ending are fitting and good but there may have been more to that scene or maybe not.. I've never read the book maybe it was explained further there. Look forward to more reviews! Happy holidays & take care.

Can someone explain the blue color theme across the movie ?
@haji2702
@haji2702 Жыл бұрын
IMO I feel like the colour blue represented a sort of freedom. ie. the freedom to eat others with minimal guilt (live your life being your true authentic self). I also think it could represent the trauma and sensitivity of each character. This is just a guess cause I’m only watched the movie once so take my words pretty lightly 😅😅

I didn’t think of these characters as ‘cannibals’ because they’re depicted as a different species. How so? Superhuman sense of smell and ability to consume hundreds of pounds of human flesh in one sitting.

I think the 'being able to smell people from unrealistic distances' has to do with emphasising the feeling of loneliness. In a world where you're different and it's so so difficult to find someone who's similar to you, where you feel so isolated and alone, when you come across someone who is simialr to you, you can sense it immediately. It emphasises that overwhelming feeling of finding humanity in yourself through a very tangible and literal sense (pardon the pun). In terms of 'being able to consume unlikely large amounts of flesh' that has to do with addiction and how it consumes you. Humans consume way more than they should when it comes to addiction, but they do because in order to reach that high they get, every time they're forced to consume even more as tolerance to the substance builds. Notice how Lee and Maren started off in small amounts and it builds up. I think bones and all has many different interpretations, one of them I wonder, is representation of overdose?

@aster_11
@aster_11 Ай бұрын
I've seen three main theories regarding that scene: 1) It's just a memory of a time they felt very emotionally connected and fully understood one another. 2) Now since Maren has eaten Lee bones and all, she has a much deeper connection to him. Her views of herself and their addiction got in the way of their relationship frequently and resulted in them tending to disagree a lot. This was her truly accepting herself and symbolism of true union and seeing eye to eye. 3) They're in Limbo. After Lee died Maren couldn't live on without him so k¡||3d herself (You could perhaps say this is symbolism of what addiction does to someone. Another metaphor could be how many su¡©¡d3s are a result of not being accepted for who people are).

@schzti I'm just saying the difference between the book and movie. Sully was the twist in the book...he was grand-dad. Her father was the one in the hospital ...it made sense in the book. The pacing was so slow and uneventful, the plot was almost non existent especially after she found her mom, and Sully literally had no motivation why he wanted to be with Marion. I found this very disturbing. Teenagers love Timothee Chalamet. We have enough screwed up teens, drug and alcohol abuse..etc. because kids think it is cool. They do not need to see this outrageous movie regarding cannibalism. I remember Fad's, such as, mini skirts and cramming kids into a phone booth..! Do I want to read or hear about teens, breaking and entering to consume people.. ? Timothee, do you really want to be this kind of a role model...? I think you are on your way to becoming a great actor. Unfortunately KIDS do not understand it's just a movie.

You're such a literal thinker to the point of annoyance. This movie + the book is very metaphorical. It can represent so many things. Battling with addiction, parental abu$e, su¡c¡de, not being accepted for who you are, young love, discovery of yourself, the affects of bullying, mental illness, independence... Anyone who watches it with an open mind, through Luca's directing and the acting will be able to see the very important message it carries. It's such surface level to look at this as just cannibalism...
