Sully's character is absolutely mind blowing. Terrifying representation of the scariest nightmares we can experience. He's on point, his creepy aura is something else special that we rarely have seen lately on cinema. The movie isn't exactly all good in my opinion, it has some flaws and it travels by some difficulties to hang on coherently to the plot, but it's averagely good enough to watch. It's a well spent two hours of a different thing, or not that different but rather an expected thing amongst some improbable group of people.

They actually asked this question to Luca Guadagnino. They asked him whether he wanted to make a 'joke' about Arnie Hammer. He (obviously) replied that this is just a ridiculous thing to think. This movie is based on a novel published years ago. Also, movies take a long while to be made. You have to buy the rights of the book, write the script, find the actors, see whether there is some conflicting schedules, and so on. It is simply impossible that this movie is related to Hammer's scandal. Also, stop calling Arnie Hammer "a real life cannibal". He expressed a fantasy in some texts, but he never really eat anybody.

After your review, Chris, I'm looking forward to seeing this! As for quirky romance movies, watch "Wristcutters" if you haven't already. It's a 2006 romantic comedy, with a surreal twist, directed by Goran Dukić. Its premise, oddball characters, and soundtrack make it hard not to love.

@vins1979

Spring is beautiful, but this is different. SPOILER Spring is the love story between a 'monster' and a human. It has a very "classic" plot (doomed love because of differences - i.e., different families, different social classes, different races and ethnicities in some historical periods, or differences due to the fact that, well, one of the two is a monster). In Bones and all, they are BOTH monsters, and yet there are still many (personal, emotional, psychological) obstacles between the two, even though they belong to "the same kind". In my view, the movie is about loneliness and about the illusion of finding a real connection or a real love, only to discover that you are still alone. It is very touching.

The trailer intentionally made the movie look like Natural Born Killers. They even had a Leonard Cohen song playing that is not heard in the movie. It's a pretty clear reference since Natural Born Killers has Cohen's music in it. The movie is kind of similar, but I didn't expect it to be what it was. That was pretty cool since usually trailers spoil everything. I liked the movie. Some pretty gruesome scenes, sweet love story and the girl was hot. Maybe not an absolute masterpiece but good.

I thought they were zombies honestly, my boyfriend and I saw it together and I have to agree, in some scenes you definitely have to have a strong stomach. I loved the romance between the two main characters but there were a lot of things in this movie that were disturbing and a little hard to watch. Mark Rylance’s character was really creepy and disturbing as well and the ending was definitely not something I was expecting and the ending was one of the most emotionally disturbing scenes in the whole movie. Not the best movie I’ve ever seen.

@@Abrakadabro666 I spent some time thinking about it and after I felt I understood what it was about I liked it. Consider the following interpretation: a mysterious energy burst is causing all things inside it to randomly reconfigure and become disfigured, and the area grows larger every day. This is a metaphor for trauma and memory. The energy burst is some trauma and memory is the territory where a person’s reality becomes distorted, like dna is mixed with plants in annihilation, memory mixes in the mind. I think this was a very original and interesting sci fi and I liked it for this reason.

The film was boring as hell and I how am I as a viewer supposed to have any sympathy for cannibals??? I watched it with my friend and we both came to a consensus that the film would have been more interesting if it focused on the unconditional love that Marin's father had for her as they were trying to navigate this "urge" that she had and the difficulties they faced having to run from town town due to the destructive nature that her caniblistic urges caused. That would have made for a way better, more emotional and compelling story. But the direction they took in this film wasn't it.
