"Details matter" - a very useful explanation of why this should be so; many thanks, Steve.

Another good one Steve, and much appreciated. I used to have a large Genuine Luke but sold it as I just never was likely to utilize it. It was great to watch the video and gain some reassurance that I made the right decision. Like most things there was always some trepidation about letting things go, and the guy who purchased it was a circumnavigator who swore by its performance, which had me second guessing. Feel much better now.

Hi, Steve. I love your good and honest anchor tests! Hey, we (sailors) are being bombarded with Facebook posts from the producers of the XYZ Air Anchor. They are quite "militant" about their anchor being way better in al perspectives than Mantus, Rocna, Ultra. They might be right, but I told them I'll wait till you tested it, haha! So maybe a good idea for the next test? Happy greetingz, Wim

The "Air" anchor does look intriguing. I'll test it whenever I get my hands on one.

I have an old style fisherman, similar, works great where weeds are heavy here in prince edward county, otherwise I don't use it.

Wow! You have done some serious testing, very good videos sailor! You just got to be the No1 gut to ask, I have a question about placing the chain in the aft hole and use using zip ties in the front hole (is it called reeftripping?) to be able to free the anchor if it gets stuck. Is this a good or bad idea? Haven’t found any video made by you covering this subject, I’m a genuin Bruce-user and want to keep it:) Keep on pulling/ best regards Martin from Sweden

The only situation where I would consider using the "ziptie" technique that you described, would be when I am on deck and ready to be immediately under way, such as when fishing. For times when the crew is NOT keeping a perfect 24 hr anchor watch, the risk of having the ziptie break unintentionally is far too great for my comfort.

Hey Steve, have you ever seen or thought about testing the Hurricane brand low-scope anchors? They've been around about ten years and I've been tempted to buy one for a while, but I've never seen independent testing on them. They claim it's the shortest setting anchor in the world and that you can use it with a 2:1 scope without compromising holding power.

Thank you very very much Steve. Could you please consider testing bulwagga anchor ?
@flygoodwin Жыл бұрын
Sadly, this anchor testing endeavor does not generate sufficient revenue to warrant the purchase of new test anchors. I search the local Craigslist every day, but so far, no Bulwaggas have appeared.

Just saw an ad for a new anchor. The XYZ Air anchor. Very different design. Would be interested to see a review and test of this one.

Just had a look out of curiosity... that's a wild looking anchor. Makes some hefty claims too. Would make a good video for Steve!

Hi. Do you by any chance know what the name of this anchor is? There is one for sale for a good price but we don’t know the name of it so can’t read reviews. Thanks so much! We love your channel and appreciate what you do
@kristjanvanwissen1315 Жыл бұрын
'Luke' is the make of it, its a 'fisherman' style or admiralty style anchor

Darn I can’t post a photo here. Is there some way I can share a photo of the anchor in question with you? Many thanks

Can you post a link to the "for sale" site.

Would it be worth to make a list of the worst copies?
@flygoodwin Жыл бұрын
Happy to list them. However, with the exception of the Lewmar Claw (Bruce copy), the copy anchors were "generic" brands, which means we really won't know if other copies are similar. Lewmar Claw (Bruce Copy): About half the hold power of the Genuine Bruce in numerous seabeds. Generic Bruce copy: Less than half the holding power of genuine in the Sandy Mud. Generic Danforth Copy: Failed to set, Failed to make usable holding power in the Sandy Mud. Generic Luke Copy: Failed to set, Failed to make usable holding power in the Sandy Mud. Generic CQR Copy: Reluctant to set in Sandy Mud (Genuine set immediately).
