Najaf, Iraq ➖ After catching an 8-hour bus from Basra, I had arrived in the 2nd holiest city in Iraq, Najaf. My first mission was to get a taxi and find a hotel to stay the night at. I met a friendly guy who dropped me off near the centre of town and I walked to what I thought would be a good hotel. Good is an understatement for the hotel, it was exceptional! After having a short rest it was time to explore and check out the holy shrine of Imam Ali, what an incredible sight it was. I even met a friendly local called Azhar who showed me around the area and bought me some dinner, he was an incredible guy!

I'm Kurdish from northern Iraq but both of my surgeon parents did their medical studies and work experience rotations all over southern Iraq. Being an 80's baby, most of my childhood years in the 80's involved me visiting them in Baghdad, Samarra, Najaf, Karbala, Samawah and Baqubah. I've been lucky to live in the UK, Italy, Switzerland, France and Luxembourg, but I can never explain to you just how loving and welcoming the Arabs of southern Iraq are. My parents would be busy working in their clinics when I'd visit them and the locals who they were staying with would literally take care of me like I was their child. It now feels like it was a whole other time and place, such was the pure love, welcome and unadulterated care without expecting anything in return. I always felt so at home, and my dad still misses the years he spent in those communities. The Iran Iraq war is what changed everything. Division and suffering perpetrated and escalated through external meddling. We Kurds suffered a lot, but I'm still proud to call people all over Iraq my people.

Was in Najaf for 5 months in 05. Even then as the occupiers the people were so friendly and inviting. It was a pretty safe area then and we would just patrol around and stop and engage with the people and they were always so hospitable. I’ve always wanted to go back there and visit as a tourist. Still have friends from there I met back then that I still talk to every few years.

As a Pakistani Muslim I'm so happy to see you there in Iraq visiting one of the very most sacred and holy place for us. You are so lucky to get to be there and see it with your eyes. Many Muslims around the world especially in Pakistan wish heartily and pray that they could get to breath in that air and experience to touch the soil of najaf. I wish everyone could go there who wishes. I'm a fan your channel is addictive positively and I like your reviews you are so funny, honest and friendly. Such a bright soul and joyful. I wish the best life for you lots of love from Pakistan. Please come to Pakistan again and come to Lahore too..

@@user-lz8ft7dg9k nice, but why always bring out the religion? If you come to our polynesian islands in South Pacific , you will be told we are nice welcoming people not that we have all the attributes of Christianity. Western people has been launching rockets and satellites for years, a progress for the whole world. Saudi Arabia sends a satellite (all western technology), they take it as a victory for muslim. I was surprised how generous and friendly Iraqis were, I hope you had good time. Maybe you need to visit Al Ahwar and ear Maskoof fish.

During the Ashura months, when visiting Karbala and Najaf, it is a remarkable and unparalleled experience to witness the provision of free services to the public, including food and hospitality, for the entire duration of the holy commemoration of Imam Hussain's death. This extraordinary display of generosity is truly a unique and awe-inspiring phenomenon, unlike anything found elsewhere in the world.

Take risks, is Iraq dangerous? I am Iraqi, and our country is safe. Do not be deceived by the American media, because America destroyed Iraq without humanity, brutally killed, and now the Americans say that Iraq is dangerous. It is funny. 😂
