Welcome to the family and I'm SO glad you're not just letting them lead you out to left field with some of these rides! You gotta be a little selective so the algorithm knows you're not a sucker. If they don't send you rides for a bit, it's cool. SAVE MONEY from each day (or week) and start a "SLOW FUND". It will get slow. Don't tap into the slow fund for any reason, whatsoever! Put it in an envelope and only add to it. One day, you'll need it, trust me! In the meantime, keep looking at how much TIME you're allocating to the gig. I go for $20 every 30mins, or else I want a high dollar per mile. I'll park in the shade and kick back til a high dollar per mile comes thru. I'm not burning fuel and wasting time on long trips - unless that trip is taking me to a busy area. Then TAKE IT, even if it's less than $1/mile. It's your fuel to get to where you know it's busy.

Yup. The money is being withheld because of the saturation. Experienced drivers are being bled out as the newbies are like, "...I just made $1,400 in a week!! I only worked 70hrs!!!" LOL! Yeah, we can do that in 24hrs, as experienced drivers. We had to work more hours now, but we're more selective without having Lux requests on Lyft and I stay away from UberX in Phoenix. It's trash in this market. Even the UberEats offers are like, "...yeah, it's saturated or else they wouldn't be sending ME that stuff."

I tried UberEats a few times over the weekend. The offers are $7 for 10 miles and 28 mins. One offer was like $15 for 3 miles and I clicked it. It spun forever before another driver got it. Drivers are saturating the gig economy and the apps are loving it. New, inexperienced drivers looking at $20/hr as a come up, but they don't take expenses into consideration. They're literally getting $13-17/hr, and don't even realize it. We al do this. We know the levels we should be on. They don't. Instead of them asking and getting info on how to do it right, they're like, "...I don't care. It's money. I'm taking the 11 mile delivery for 20 mins for $4. It's $4 more than what I had." Dumb. And now we fight the apps as well as fight stupidity.

You didn't miss much. Events all around in Tenpe and downtown Phx, but paid pennies to drivers. Almost no surge out. Literally saturated to where they didn't need a surge to get anyone out to drive.

They're doing a pre-school burnout session of drivers, literally. Not paying drivers well in order to boost their 3rd quarter estimates early. Getting a jump on revenue and decreasing expenses as much as they can. Drivers ain't getting paid unless we use our brains to get paid!

Once Uber and Lyft have solid competition and riders have a better choice, drivers will be back to being excited about driving.

I've been going out earlier and it's working. Yesterday was a good day, til they started with the nature hike rides. 28 miles for $26 from the airport - and that was WITH the $3 surge. Nah, I'm good. That means I gotta come 28 miles back because I live by the airport. Hahaha! Would take me 2hrs of driving to make that $28 fare. I'm cool on that!

This one ride did the ol switcheroo two miles before the passenger and what should've been an 8 dollar ride for nine miles was way worse and it took me on every curvy and hilly road in the city I almost got car sick 😂😂

Yup. Today wasn't bad at all, but I'm like 20 miles from home sitting near Litchfield right now. I don't come out here. Damn rides/streaks got me out here! I had to take em to make the money. I’ve found that the week of July 4th is the bottom of the arc for the year. It slowly picks up from there.

The apps love it because they basically lowered the pay of experienced drivers and replaced them with cheap labor. That's why I don't do what the app tells me to do. I choose an area and choose a strategy. I won't take less than what I know is a ride worth taking, for whatever reason. The app sends out sucker-rides all the time, and somebody takes them. That's why we can't make money like we used to. Folks started bending over instead of standing up.

Yup. They'll have you going 20 miles before you actually pick somebody up! You be like, "...I got switched three times and didn't get paid for the last 20 miles of driving!" They switch me, and I look at the miles I've driven already PLUS where they're sending me. If it's further than I initially agreed, cancel. Park the car. Wait for a ride a mile away.

I think it has a lot to do with insurance more than anything else. Lawsuits in America are easy to begin. All you need is social media and two people seeing half the story, then saying SUE THEM!!! If not for the lawsuit culture, more people would be in business. Folks go sprung LOOKING for ways to sue someone. Insurance companies don't wanna deal with being sued by broke ass non-tippers starting shit with drivers just to get a reaction on social media.

That's my goal in Orlando. So many roadblocks to overcome. My goal...$2 per mile. I keep 1/3 drivers keep 2/3. Anyone want to join me in this venture?

Keep plugging away at these short rides and use LAST RIDE so you can find the bonus. If it's close, go snag it and add it to a short ride. Hopefully you get a tip added to THAT so you can really get around $9-13 for 4 miles or something like that. Do that enough, you just went 16 miles in an hour and you made $52 if they're all $13 each. Short rides need shit stacked to em to make sense.

Yup. Sitting in traffic will kill all that potential. I pick and drop FAST. Short 3 mile trips that end up being like $9 to $15 with tip and surge. Knock down about 4 to 5 per hour, and you're sitting at over $50/hr and you only went 15 miles total. Drive smarter!! You already on it!

Yup. My online hours are skyrocketing. Nothing will come thru on Uber worth taking. One ride every hour, maybe. Sometimes none. Literally a dead app.

I agree. UberEats tips be BANGING! I've always enjoyed those tips, but damn they ain't sending me nothing on Eats right now. I mean NOTHING. Literally 3 offers/night, and they're McD's in a long drive-thru for $4 for 4 miles. Man, it's super saturated and I didn't realize how bad it was when I made this video. Graduations all hit a few weeks back and now everyone passed background for the apps by now. The apps got a FLOOD of new drivers all hitting at the same time, it feels like.

And yep, Uber on them tips is on low.

You get more per mile and if you can get them quick enough, you get more for 2 short trips in 30 mins that you get for taking ONE long trip that lasts 30mins. You can get like $30-40 off two short trips with surge, challenge money, and tips versus getting $12 for one trip that took you 30mins total time.

However, being tagged on the Uber algorithm is giving me longer trips only. Seldom local. Only driving 23% of the time I'm online. Timeouts are numerous. Obviously, many areas are saturated. Just got to keep pivoting. Testing another area where I know there are not a lot of drivers in the mornings. Finished testing one this morning...terrible. Gridlock traffic. Yup. I'll be 50 this summer. I've learned a lot over the years, and I've learned that if you're willing to sell yourself for cheap, SOMEBODY will buy you! We have a lot of "cheap" people on the platforms that are now cheap drivers, and the apps know this. They realize that many are mathematically challenged to where they won't understand it. The same people who used to rave over a $0.50/hr raise in HR are now driving on the apps. But that's what happens when you indoctrinate people to think a certain way. It's hard to break them from that mold to show them there's actually a better way to invest their time and money instead of allowing themselves to be played for fools. I'm just glad some people hold out for better pay and drive with the purpose of making profits versus the purpose of "I just gotta stay busy." Staying busy can end up putting you into the LOSS pile and no the PROFIT pile after a few repairs and incidents with driving. We stack profits!

Same here. The time I'm putting in to find good rides is getting higher and higher. My actual income is much lower per hour than normal, and it has to do with Lux. But even then, they're not sending me good short rides and surge. They're sending long rides at less than $1/mile. Most aren't even $1/minute. I would consider $1/minute for long rides but they are short by $8-15 on those rides. I see the game they're playing, and we gotta stay strong and not bend. I would pivot to another app or even another job before I allowed them to use my car as a low-paid tool. Our time and investment are worth something, and we have to stand for value. We aren't cheap labor, sending thousands in fuel and vehicles while looking for good offers. We can find better being a manager at Wendy's, not even burning fuel all day. Be taking home the same, with less damage to cars and not worrying about wrecking or repairing it every other week.

Time to pivot to keep cash rolling in. There has to be ways to do it, and I'm searching my market now for part-time gigs or either part-time traditional jobs that can use my expertise. I don't mind working 4-5hrs/day - and then doing a little rideshare after work. But we can't sit here and rely on these apps to kick us down with more cash. They're banking and laughing right now at all these new drivers taking $0.50/mile rides just to do these challenges and quests.

I drive in Los Angeles, and the West LA areas are saturated with drivers! I'm only actively driving for 23-25% of my online time. Even my rural beach area is saturated. I saw at least 8 drivers in one parking lot the other day.

When they can't find a car in their area, it's because it's too slow to be out there sitting in hot parking lots, waiting on a ride that's worth the money. I'd rather just sit at home in the AC, log on...scout rides for a while. If I see a nice ride taking me to a busy area (with a surge), I'll take the ride. If the whole map is white and there's no surge, I don't leave the house. I'm not going on a nature hike to the middle of nowhere - sit under a tree a Circle K for 30mins getting no rides - then come back home on my own gas. Leaving the house for ONE TRIP isn't worth it. These trips aren't paying enough.

So slow. Two nights in a row I was barely scraping by. I'm usually jamming, but the rides are low-fares and it's just nothing out there. The app won't ping for 20mins at a time...then dead again for another 20mins after I get a crap request. Right now, they're trying to get all Americans to drain their savings accounts. That's the only way they can introduce the newer currencies and valuations of money. If we are pushed to the point of being broke, they can do the reset they're working on. Be frugal, brotha. Don't even move the car unless it's money coming your way. Don't waste the fuel driving around. There will be rides where you are, so just sit and chill. Make that fuel last as many days as possible.

The apps should have predicted saturation. To them, it's good for business. Drivers working twice as hard to make the same money, as everyone is taking crap rides just to get by. They're making profits like crazy all summer on drivers that have no system...no strategy. Just driving and burning gas. Car gon be tore up by August. They'll be wrecking, with bumpers hanging off and missing hubcaps on one side of the car - all for making pennies in a market they didn't understand. They just got in and went nuts taking EVERY trip, making very little profits to cover anything beyond expenses. We gotta make it thru July 4th. We got a month. We gotta figure it out for a month before the next major holiday, then STACK and get back on track!

I’m a licensed handyman but tried out LYFT in New Jersey for two days. $215, 8 hours driving total, 9 rides, but I was in my car about 14 hours maybe. As a handyman I have made $400 in 2 hours before. There’s no comparison, especially after you deduct expenses! So I’m not doing LYFT anymore.

Facts. I gotta pivot when the money is needed. That's all I know. If the market isn't there for rideshare, we have to find a gig that's willing to pay us for using our equipment and our time. If GoPuff is willing to pay me right, I'll do it! That's what contractors do: we make moves and we make money, brotha!

Damn! That's a shame. That's why there's no airport surge worth going there for. All rides I've gotten outta there weren't worth taking. Trip to Surprise and El Mirage for $26. You know the customers paid like $80 to get out of the airport. Man, I'm good on that! Airport is gonna end up being for XL and Black rides, like club traffic. The rates for regular are wack without surge.

That's what many are doing. A lotta dead miles tho. Lotta gas station runs. I used to do that, but I was at the gas station every single day. Started doing short rides and a tank would last me three days, making close to $300/day in about 8hrs. Now? Shit. Not even close. I hit $200/day on half tank. Crazy. Never took that much fuel to hit $200.

The 330i has an ECO mode where all of the power is removed from the engine and it's running on partial electric, I think. The gas mileage meter jumps to like 60mpg! But there's NO power in the car unless you press all the way to the floor. Then the gauges turn red and you've got engine power again. On blue (ECO mode), it's cruising on air, I swear. I love it on the highways, but using it on streets is too stop-n-go. You can't leave the stop light quick like when you're in regular mode.

Yup. And we got a solid market. But new folks out here not knowing the plan. The plan was to get HIGHER FARES, not more rides. They out here taking 20 rides to do what we did in 13. Not driving smarter! Burning gas! Wear and tear. We gotta have team players in the gig world or it won't work out well for nobody.

Facts. As a mechanic, I can make $1k/day, not leaving my garage. But then you gotta deal with people not taking care of the car and returning in 4 months after they hopped a curb, acting like it's a warranty repair. 🤣😅😆 I got so tired of people who can't take care of cars blaming the mechanic for their lack of care. Summer is having people really making moves this year. Saturated markets and the apps messing with the functions and fares. 2023 is a year to remember. They're trying us!

It was dragging so bad, i didn't work the weekend like usual. I turned the shit off. Too saturated to make good runs. They know drivers out there taking shit rides and the smart drivers are being throttled down to accepting 1 or 2 rides per hour. Rather chill at home and plan my next pivot. I ain't waiting til the end up summer when all these cars broke down and folks going back to regular jobs. Nah. The apps about to shoot themselves in the foot worse than Bud Light. Hahaha!

Something is going on and they're taking it out on drivers. The airport is a nightmare. I pass it and don't even blink now. I appreciate when I do get a ride and people slip me a $5 bill because the pay for the trip was wack. And tipping on the app is inconsistent. Airport used to be our bread and butter, but they've made it a joke. They won't put surge worth a damn on the rides, so taking a short ride only works for streaks and quests. People pay $13 for a short ride, and we get $5 plus a $2 surge to make it $7. Happens for no reason, as upfront fares has a lot of wiggle room for fare adjustments.

College rides with surge are bank. When they take those away, we're stuck with long rides that eat up gas and time. The short ones that have tips and surge are what make a night more profitable. Now that ASU, AU, and GCU are out, we're sitting around.

I can see that happening, as people have to get around. Logistics is necessary, but riding in a premium vehicle that you summoned to your house is a luxury. We are getting paid transit fares in private vehicles. Yet, people are paying PREMIUM rates to have us come get them - and the apps are holding the funds for their "technological service fee" of finding them a ride. I guarantee if each of us proved we have rideshare insurance on our policy, we wouldn't need Uber or Lyft's insurance. We're paying THEM to work for them, and it's sad. We still have homes and bills to cover, yet, we're being used as tools to cover their financial mishaps that their corporate leaders can't figure out. Not our problem that they hired idiots with degrees instead of hiring people with common sense. All of these idiots with degrees and letters behind their names is why the world is in bad shape right now, financially. The past 3 years, EXPERTS have led people down the wrong path of life, and now they're billing us for their mistakes.

...and they don't know how they ruined the surge. Supply and demand controls the surge. Online drivers stack the server and no surge is necessary. They don't get it.

That's throttling. Gets us all, from time to time! I'm used to it now. I pivot around it by using different apps!

I was online last night around 11pm and the airport had around 40 drivers online. Usually, there's about 5 at that time of night. No planes landing. Just people online, drowning out any chance of a surge hitting the airport.

Literally dropped overnight here in Phoenix. I woke up with no plan. I had to come up with something QUICK because when they took my Lux, I was dead in the water with no paddle and no rudder, like a damn orca snatched it off. LOL!

The damn $6.75 offer for 1 mile pickup for 11 mile ride...they add that to the queue and I hurry up and hit that X button! LOL! Decline! If I'm on a streak, then they got me by the balls. I can't do nothing. I try to turn it on LAST RIDE during a streak when I have a few mins left of the ride - just so they don't get me. Then I turn it back on ACCEPTING RIDES before I end the ride to see what my next ride will be. We gotta be like this, sadly. If the tips were coming thru, or if the surges made sense, then I would trust the app to do me right. But naw...I know the play already!

I've had one of those before. Yup. They're not horrible on gas, but they won't allow you to go a level up unless you have the 3rd row. It's like having a Jeep on rideshare. LOL! I love using the Jeep because it's a whole VIBE to pull up with the tops out and the music jamming! They know what time it is!!! And the tips come thru for the experience!

More layoffs from traditional jobs over the winter of 2022 is affecting us now. Many are now drivers. Add that to the new summer drivers, and you have a solid argument. I'm living it, and I love driving. But this shit? Man, it's hard driving Lyft regular when I'm used to Lux. If it ain't a surge, I can't do it. I can't do $2.62 rides. Add $3-5 surge and I can do that. But my boy Chad just hit me up in Tempe and said his phone had a surge...in Casa Grande only. 🤣😅😆

I worked in Phx hotel industry as a sales mngr for over 20 years. The valley slows in the summer months as it is not a prime destination as Temps rise. We had to make our $$$ mostly fall through mid spring.

Hahahaha! I would do Veyo if I had a car that could hold a wheelchair. I've had to cancel because a wheelchair couldn't fit in my trunk. BMW 330i trunks are small. Veyo is a pivot that pays, tho!!

That's how my weeks usually go: nice as hell with a good payday. But lately? Man, I'm looking at all of the tech companies we have in AZ, knowing I might be a good fit for a solid team of accountants that know money! I've been saying that myself. It's saturated with drivers and no one is tipping due to being broke. The apps are draining wallets and holding the cash themselves. Drivers need to consider going into survival mode. Traditional jobs are hiring, even if part-time and for the season. It will pay bills!

@@MicDropBBQ it is saturated and people are hoping it will get better, but it will just get worse. I do Uber eats, amazon and the other apps and is super slow. This is not a good time for any gig app.

Facts. Supply and demand. Many don't get it. They leave those apps running for 12hrs/ day, wondering why their biggest surge is $3. We can get $7 surges if people learned about supply and demand.

$35/hr for your market is good. We usually get around $50-60/hr. No joke. On Lux, I run almost $80/yr. Check all my videos and you'll see what I mean. $35/hr is decent tho! Especially now! It's slow as hell so I would be happy with $35/hr!!! Shiiiid!

Many of my pickups be less than a mile when I'm in a busy area. I won't even drive 3 miles. Too much money close by to waste 3 miles of time trying to get to someone. Downtown areas be like half-mile pickups or less. Quicker runs and higher dollar to miles.

Nope! Decline that. You ain't getting a ride back. It's too slow. They sent me far West the other day and I had to come back home on my own fuel. 20 miles out. I never do that. I usually cherry pick short rides and stay in my area. I let other drivers have that far-money like that. Some need a ride back to their house, so I let them take all those rides. This way, it won't have them running on their own fuel with dead miles. But do ya think that happens for me? Nope! LOL! I had to dead-mile it back home. I know the apps did that on purpose because they know I cherry-pick. They wanted to leave me out there all night til 3am when the airport rides start. I live by the airport, so those are my rides back from far out. But I'm not sitting in gas station parking lots for an HOUR just to get a ride, about to get carjacked waiting to get $9. I'll shut the app and head home. Fck that $9. Ain't worth sitting in the middle of nowhere.

Teachers were just getting out of school for the summer, all logging into the gig apps to get background checks completed. And now we've got a huge influx of drivers. Supply and demand. The demand is there, but the supply of drivers is even greater. That's a scale where the apps know they have the upper hand. Most of the drivers coming on already have jobs, so this is just how they get summer money...seasonal money. They don't know the system, so they're taking everything, thinking it's all good money. Meanwhile, we're sitting back watching the economy of gig work just nosedive while all of these ants are pecking at these corn-kernel rides like chickens on a farm.

Self-driving is like having dinner by yourself, sometimes. A few folk will love it, but some people want that time to enjoy conversation with another human. Even if it costs a little more, some people are gonna want the experience that only a human can provide. For some, it'll be the "newness" of self-driving that will make them want to do it. But if you're always alone, you're gonna start feeling alone. And with rideshare, sometimes it's the energy of talking cars or talking life or whatever that makes the ride a LOT BETTER than just riding from Point A to Point B.

Summer is almost over. When college is back in, the economy is gonna have an uptick in activity, hopefully.

Nope. Most people that sell banged up cars didn't take care of it. I'm not getting stranded in the desert. My cars can run 500k miles til I need to consider replacing the engine. I do engine and transmission swaps in my garage at home. I've got hoists and all. Been doing it since I was young. I've got videos of my Jeep transmission sitting in front of my front door! Hahaha! Yanked it out to upgrade my clutch with a 400hp race clutch. They're just cars. I won't rely on a car I haven't gone thru myself. I have never been stranded in any car I've owned...ever.

Rideshare is the equivalent of crypto, in my opinion. It's a service being sold, but using assets to sell the service. With crypto, your assets are digital. The SERVICE of what the crypto can provide is the trick to the value of it. The trick to the value of rideshare is the service. You have tiers you can choose, which are like certain crypto you can buy. All of it is the same, but you can make a base level of rideshare VERY lucrative and profitable if you do it right, just like if you buy/sell crypto in increments when it's volatile. The cheapest crypto can be the most lucrative, because it's the most volatile and probably has the higher volume. You can work with the swings to generate profit, either up or down. Same with rideshare. You can use a tier to get streaks, challenges, multiple use of the SAME SURGE in an area (tons of short trips versus one long trip), and even tips seem more likely when a rider pays less for the ride (at least in my world). It's like the cheapest crypto wins like the cheapest rides win, in the longrun. LOL!

I run UberX and Lux. I've never had XL or Comfort so I wouldn't know how those tiers are. I'm all about dollars per mile, regardless of tier tho!

We used to do very well until the apps started messing with driver pay scales. Now they're getting a ton of declines and cancels. I am not about to play their game. I'm still about the money. If they're not paying, they can just keep throttling me and not sending trash to my phone. I know they're tired of seeing me available but not taking rides.

@UberJeep AZ my acceptance rate is 38 % . I say know your worth and don't accept shitty rides . If enough drivers decline the shitty offers , the algorithm will naturally increase the pay
