I was watching this and thought "Wow David Lynch's approach to speaking to children is like the total opposite of Mr Rogers' way of speaking to them" but then I kinda realized he's actually handling the situation in quite a beautiful way that is just a testament to Lynch's character. Because he's not really dumbing anything down too much. Hes asking the children to roll and yell because it would be beautiful, and you can tell he means that he wants them to do exactly that because it would be beautiful. There's no lying or trying to manipulate them to do anything.. Hes kind of just treating them like tiny adults. And you can argue the effectivness of his methods, but you cant deny its a clear testament to Lynchs incredible character
@lizziepore4 жыл бұрын
Right? And you could still tell he's not taking it too far with his tone. He's directing them straightforward like adults but his manner is still aware that he's talking to children.

As a director that has worked with children (under the age of 5) on a low budget independent film & I must say, working with children is such a difficult thing to do... its so hit-or-miss with children. You either get an amazing shot you didn't expect to get or you get hours of frustration that you hope can be worked with while editing... most of the time, both.

I heard something similar about directing cats. “You can’t direct a cat, they don’t know what acting is. The only way to make a movie about a cat is to follow it around with a camera until the camera dies and then hope you can write a movie based on whatever the cat ended up doing.”
