Improvising on a major scale to an app and why this is fun

Күн бұрынScales are not boring, dull, unnecessary or pointless things that we have to learn to pass a test or please a teacher. They are incredibly beautiful and if we want to be capable saxophone players, we really need to be comfortable with them. But the see the real beauty of them, it helps a lot if we can play them to a backing track of some kind and in this video, that's what I talk about.

I am inspired! I have a granddaughter that is playing trumpet in middle school band class. I was telling her this past weekend about pentatonic scale and chord tones. This was all new to her . I told her would like to come to her home about twice a w 11:46 eek so she and I could practice together and she said I have a friend who plays saxophone, so she is very receptive to my offer. This has given me the very thing to start our practice sessions with. Thanks for the video. (Bringing Lynden to Rual Texas).😊

Thank you Lynden for another great tutorial. Your phrasing is really nice even when you were going up and down the scales with the dynamic changes and tonguing. It will be great if you can do a video on this, thanks again.

You are an amazing teacher! Shame it’s late, as so want to go and play my sax right now. Can’t wait to try this tomorrow as have been feeling a little flat about my playing the last couple of days. Do you have any advice as to what is the best thing to get to tune your sax to? Thanks.

Hi Lynden. I am a newcomer - both as a subscriber and a member. I am 78, living in Norway, started playing sax 4-5 years ago. I am very much inspired by this video and also by the video about improvising over Greensleeves. But I have a couple of questions regarding both of them: I believe that both the apps and the backing track in the Greensleves video are in Concert Key. So how do I relate to them with my Tenor in Bb? When written C, I play D - When written Am, I play Bm? Or?? The hard part is to sound consonant, that is to play mostly chord tones on the downbeat. Maybe 80 % . Less than 50% sounds like you are "out", dissonant.
