I don't think it's fair to compare Ronnie and Johnny those shoes couldn't be filled by anyone, my daddy was childhood friends with Ronnie from grade school until he died, my dad joined him in heaven in 79, I've met Johnny and leaned up on an old oak tree and talked for 30 or so minutes before he had to go but he is an awesome humble man that don't think he's any Bette than anyone else, I feel if Ronnie couldn't sing anymore he'd be thrilled with the job his little brother has done and is doing,

Traveling around I've had my fill Of broken dreams and dirty deals A concrete jungle surrounding me Many nights I've slept out in the streets I paid my dues and I changed my style Seen hard times. All over now 1!!

This is one of my favorite songs and it was never actually released on an album as it was one of their orginals with Rickey Medlocke as their drummer on this song before he left and formed Blackfoot. I believe they recorded this song in 1971 before their first album. It was later placed on their "First and Last" album after the crash.

@roysteinar Agree. The wear and tear of 24 years (hard to believe isn't it ?) on stage with Skynyrd are showing up in his voice. Still love those guys those.

As much as I love the current and all prior incarnations of the "reformed band" it is my opinion they miss the presence of Ed King the most. Listen to the music structure and ESPECIALLY the lyrics of the songs on 1991 and The Last Rebel. Once Ed was out of the band the lyric content took a huge nosedive. The current band has no true song writers as Rickey didn't write lyrics for Blackfoot and Gary didn't write lyrics for the orginal band and I doubt they give Sparky any reins at all.

journeyfan, I will nto argue with yu as I love all the Van Zant family and it's all a matter of opinion, but I also go way back to 1974 and even before and I have seen Skynyrd more times then I can remember and Ronnie as by far the better singer, but that's my opinion. I actually partied with the boys before a long time ago.

@roysteinar Hi man, I reckon we were all a bit better in the 80's. A quarter of a century of hard livin' can really slow a man down, some!

Yeah, I agree. I think we have seen with Johnny what was getting ready to plague Ronnie. Basically his voice just wasn't going to be strong enough the endure years of singing on a continuous basis on a professional level. While we lament the passing of the "original band" I'm not so sure they would have lasted more than another couple of albums due to Ronnie's voice and other issues. In an odd way, the plane crash may have actually extended the life of the band "Lynyrd Skynyrd".

Artimus Pyle's drum sound is pretty poor throughout this entire live album. I don't know how much of it was Arti, his drums, the music mix of the drums but the cymbals also sound like SHIT on this recording. The cymbals are just crashing and distorted. It's a real SHIT MIX of the drums and cymbals. Maybe someday someone might REMIX this album, but I think that would be probably a fantasy and if they did they might fuck it up, as on the cymbal sound on I Need You which is also TOO LOUD!! And yes, I know that was Bob Burns on the drums and cymbal, but the TAPPING sound on I Need You damn near ruins the song for me. It's just too damn loud in the mix.
