He was clearly the most dynamic of their guitarists, but I think Ed King was the best technical player with great songwriting skills, and best sense of tempo. Rossington the best blues-based, Southern style player, a great complementary player, essential to their sound, but terrible technical player.

I was just a kid in the 70's in NJ.... My older neighbor Mike was the guy who introduced me to good music... He would play Zeppelin, Frampton, Bad Co albums for me and I got turned on to Rock... One day he came up to me and said I have to hear this album ..he went to see Skynyrd at Asbury Park show the night before and was blown away .... He played Skynyrd records for me and I was instantly a fan...the guitars were so amazing.... the whole band kicked A$$... I ran home and tried to figure out the guitar parts because they were so amazing... Not long after I seen Mike and he was all sad and he told me about the crash was in the news...our hearts sank... To this day I always have Skynyrd songs in my set-list with my band...These songs get people motivated and spirits lifted after all these years...

I only saw them once live and it was 1976 at the Cape Cod Coliseum in 1976 as a backup to Jeff Beck. I remember the show being kind of short but they were great. Ronnie mentioned something about the heat in the Coliseum and he was right. It was about 115 degrees inside the place. The heat coming off the crowd combined with the huge air conditioner on the ceiling made the walls dripping wet. The band played their butts off. I saw Linda Blair hanging out on the side of the stage. A definitely concert memory that ranks right up their with some of my best shows. ~ Rob/Boston

@@stephendipietro455 Man that is great info Stephen. Save those passes. Another one of my friends worked the door down there for a few shows. I remember he let me in for the Van Halen show in and around 1979. I will try to think of his name and if it comes to me I will write back. You may have known him. I was in the front row holding onto the bars. By the time VH got on I was getting lifted off my feet from the crowd. So I had to bail. What a great job you had down there. When he is at Knebworth in 76 he plays it almost note for note with the album... I think they gave him freedom towards the end but they were a really tight band so they didn't like a lot of that at the start. Allen Collins was a very precise technical guy and it seemed from watching them that he cringes when someone plays a riff different lol

Just words of encouragement: every single one of us skynyrd fans wishes that plane had not crashed, but the good news is them boys are in a place where everlasting joy abounds. I hope they were all ready to go, and i believe they were, based on testimonies I've heard from them. Nobody knows the heart of anyone, so all we have are testimonies, and that is sufficient. If my memory serves me correctly, i think it was leon who said he was dead for a few minutes and saw ronnie sitting on a log or something and he told leon, "go on back boy. It aint your time yet". As sad as the whole situation is, there's hope to be found too. I'm also willing to bet that every single soul in heaven would not dare want to come back to this wretched existence that is about to end once and for all. Disagree if u want as u have a right to your own opinion, but dont even think about getting rude and crude with me as i will not keep feeding your negative energy
