@@jamesmitchell3432 To late. I was there from 1980 - 1982 2nd Combat Engineers 2nd Marine Division. Get letters from lawyers every week about the water. Although I wasn't a grunt, got to have the m-60 as my primary weapon after being the A gunner for almost a year. Being the a gunner means I got the privilege of carrying the tripod and extra barrel. Of course being with Engineers meant I didn't carry it much. Mostly just at the range. That weapon was kick ass to fire.

My uncle was originally an infantry gunner, due to his size, but then they told him he would be a door gunner on a helicopter in Vietnam. He said they would add washers(?) to the buffer to increase the rate of fire and air blowing from the rotor blades would keep the barrel cool.
@user-xb9mg7du9u
@user-xb9mg7du9u 5 ай бұрын
@@BrandonLeeBrown I happened to use this machine gun in Europe, it has an unreliable cartridge belt feed system, the components of the gas system work loosely, which leads to delays in firing, the bolt uses the firing pin as a support surface, which leads to irreversible damage to the firing pin, the bolt guide rod is made of low-quality steel, the trigger mechanism is subject to rapid wear, to increase During its service life, it is necessary to pull the trigger as hard as possible each time, with maximum amplitude. The main problem is a very fragile slide guide rod, a very weak pin spring for fixing the firing control handle, in addition, the machine gun is prone to spontaneous disassembly during rapid movement, sometimes the bolts of the receiver attachment are cut off during prolonged firing.

When my elder sister joined the Army, at basic training she surprised her Drill Instructors because she knew how to fire a rifle, fairly accurately. But when she got to fire a twenty round belt through the M-60, she enjoyed it so much, she asked the Drill Sergeant if she could have another, and added "please?" He was surprised enough to give her another twenty round belt. She figured that it was because she asked please.

That sure was hard on the barrel, in fact, shooting it for that amount of continuous fire would more than likely result in a situation where it would be almost usless due to an over heated barrel. 3 to 6 round shot bursts will prevent overheating and allow the operator to re-aim , cause you are only able to accurately aim the first shot, after that your accuracy comes from your points of impact, cause you can't keep you're face on the butt stock when in continuous fire due to recoil .
