M-Gymkhana finally has come to my hometown of Chula Vista, CA. What an exciting day. We had quite a few people show up (9 riders) including some of my fellow motorcycle instructors. I am very appreciative that they came out to ride. Big thanks to Instructors Kenny, Rhino, Shaena and Kaz.
Even though I was happy to see so many people at the event, what was not so exciting was the condition of the parking lot we used. The grip was not good. Painted lines and oil spots really made the whole day very stressful for me as I couldn't get my tires to grip. Slipping tires definitely killed my confidence and I had to end up leaning less and taking tighter lines just as if I was riding in the rain. This of course is my weakness since my bike has no torque and I could not carry as much speed around the corners. Even still, it was great practice to adjust the riding style and muscle through the conditions. I ended up in 2nd place with a time of 1:24:6.
DISCLAIMER: Motorcycle riding is inherently dangerous. These videos were filmed in a controlled environment with riders who have years of riding and teaching experience. Please wear safety gear, know your limits, know your motorcycle's limits, have fun, and always practice in a safe and controlled environment.

Hey Alex, looking good man. Keep on it and you WILL get better and better. That guy Kenny on the DRZ is FAST and he has that front brake turning assist working for him really good. When I was learning to ride, I would pick guys who were racers and watch them every chance I got. Then I would go out and try to emulate them, slowly at first, then gradually picking up the speed as I grew more confident. I only wish this type of moto sport was around San Diego when I lived there as a young man in the Navy. I would have loved it!

Thanks for the encouraging words. I wish you were still living in SD so you could come to the events. Something I just realized today while looking at my Ninja is that I had my idle rate set way too low at this last event. That’s why my bike felt so sluggish. I won’t make that mistake again. I’ll be posting video from the next event in Fontana which is in a week and a half. Stay tuned and thanks for watching.

@@LexcoMotoGymkhana Alex, I sure wish I was also. I left San Diego in 1985 for the last time. I did go back for a job with the shipyard here in Bremerton and it sure had changed. I used to live for a while in Chula Vista and discovered that it means beautiful view and back then ( early 70's ) it sure was a nice and pretty place. If your bike is low on torque, you could put a larger sprocket on the rear, maybe two or 4 teeth. You might have to add a link or two for the events and then put is back to stock. Would give you better acceleration from slow speeds. Careful not to move the rear wheel back much, which effectively lengthens your wheel base, which could effect tight turns some. Looking forward to more videos and some first places. 🙂

@@LexcoMotoGymkhana try also monitoring the ambient temperature. My 1st training/event, bike was feeling sluggish despite higher idle speed, found out that I needed to up octane if on the venue since its on a lower elevation and higher ambient temperatures than where I usually ride and practice.
