Is that truck powered by a Detroit 8v71 series engine, I curious if a Detroit 6v53 or a 6v71 series would fit in a M35a2 deuce without any drastic modifications?.
@bladenrexroth25555 жыл бұрын
Truck in video has a 8v92. You can repower a deuce with a 6v53 or 6v71. You'd get better results with a 12 valve cummins and a Eaton 7 speed with a PTO.
@thevacuumtubejunky97745 жыл бұрын
@@bladenrexroth2555 : Thank you for your response. I've seen several Cummings upgrades in a M35a2 but never seen one powered with a Detroit, I guess there is a reason why. Thanks again. Kind regards Eric Dee
@bladenrexroth25555 жыл бұрын
@@thevacuumtubejunky9774 a cummins provides maximum torque at a lower rpm. A detroit reaches it's torque at a higher rpm. Example. A 12 valve cummins with 300 hp should produce 800 ft #'s of torque. It will deliver 800 ft #'s at 1200-1400 rpm. A 300 hp 6v53 should produce around 800 ft #'s but it will deliver that torque around 2200 rpm. A 2 stroke tends to be more efficient when it's in higher rpms. The comfort zone of a 2 stroke is in higher rpms. A 300 hp cummins will give your deuce over double the HP and almost triple the torque. Using the eaton 7 gives you the ability for a really low gear for climbing and mud while also giving you a extra highway gear for cruising. If you find an Eaton 7 with a Pto? You'll be able to run your winch.
@thevacuumtubejunky97745 жыл бұрын
@@bladenrexroth2555 : Thank you for sharing your knowledge with me, your explanation makes perfect sense, I have a co-worker who has a Dodge truck with a 6 cylinder Cummings in it, he claims pulling a 38ft 5th wheel from California to South Dakota he can average nearly 20mpg from his truck,and has absolutely nothing negative to say about the Cummings reliability. I'am not sure whether his truck is an automatic or manual but I about fell over when I heard of the mileage he's pulling off. Now about the transmissions, an Eaton compared to the factory M35a2 trans, is the gearing not suitable for the Cummings HP and torque curve, does the Eaton trans have 7 high, 7 low, how does that work IF you don't mind me asking?. Kind regards Eric Dee
@bladenrexroth25555 жыл бұрын
@@thevacuumtubejunky9774 the eaton 7 come with a low first gear. Like a granny gear. The other 6 are highway gears. Hi/lo is achieved through the transfer case. Altought I wouldn't suggest going above 4th in low with the eaton 7. Lo 1st should get you out of most anything.

No.....I know this setup is terrible..the only way to make this somewhat work is to isolate the air suspension side by side...the stock system has all the air bags looped so as soon as you go around a corner or if your sideloaded just a little bit The force of the truck leaning pushes all the air to one side and dam near rolls the truck....also you need a dump valve on the suspension to dump..as soon as it gets half way up with a decent load it wants to roll on the soft air bags....its best to just buy 10 wheeler with a live front axle
