When I replaced the intake gaskets on my '93 500SL I installed the throttle valve on the lower intake manifold before joining it to the upper manifold. Made things very easy. Just a suggestion and worth every penny you just paid for it.
@FriendlyMBTech2 жыл бұрын
That would have been many times easier, I agree. Unfortunately I was following the work instructions for only replacing the throttle valve which assumes you haven't taken the intake manifold out and apart. I'll know for next time haha.

Can you explain how you go the engine on the stand? I’m working on my m119 and I don’t know how to Mount it to my engine stand.
@FriendlyMBTech11 ай бұрын
I have a cherry picker to hoist it and I had to get some bolts long enough that were the same thread size as the bell housing. Then I had to make up the difference with like 6 washers on each because they were too long.

I read that the 91-95 mercedes have biodegradable wiring harnesses and my 94 SL500 has a bunch of exposed wires wich causes it not to run. Do you happen to know if the new harnesses you purchase is made from the same materials? Also are these biodegradable wiring used through out the chassis or engine only.
@FriendlyMBTech2 жыл бұрын
The new harnesses aren't made with the biodegradable material. Also, as far as I know the issue was only with the engine harnesses.

Thank you VERY much for the videos! A question about the hoses that go to the TB. Mine are very hard and brittle. Are they supposed to be plastic like or are the rubber hoses? Also, when removed my hoses there is a lot of slime inside of them. Is that the way it should be?
@FriendlyMBTech Жыл бұрын
They're supposed to be rubber and soft. They're may be some oil residue in the hoses. That is normal. If it's extra thick and restricting the hoses, that is not normal.
@evgenyknafel2857 Жыл бұрын
@@FriendlyMBTech thanks. And what about breather hoses? Also should be soft ?

so the harness bracket at 8 min do you have a part number by chance? Ive seemed to misplace both of mine and need a replacement

I'm sorry I missed this comment. I feel terrible. I do not have a part number for the bracket. The bracket is a part of the harness itself.

Can you share the part number for the harness. I’m trying to resurrect a 93 400 that I found sitting at my in-laws garage. Sitting over 10 years. Great work! There are so few of these around. It was running great for few month and then within a weeks just died. It starts and runs, but as soon as it reaches operating temp, closed loop I’m guessing, just dies.

The upper engine harness that I used is part number A 124 543 88 32

My throttle body only seems to go half way open. If i could decribe it as the trottle moves about half way it catches and then it opens to half at full actuation. What do you think would cause that?
@FriendlyMBTech Жыл бұрын
Could be any number of issues inside the throttle actuator. There are gears inside the actuator that teeth can break off of. There are electrical issues that can occur. This video shows a potentiometer repair and you get a look inside at the gears. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fL-liMqLrNWUm58.html

@@FriendlyMBTech you are supposed to be able to open the whole throttle body manually though right. I took the throttle body out and it has a warranty sticker from BBA remanufacturing. They must not be good as they have bad reviews and are out if businesse
@FriendlyMBTech Жыл бұрын
@Maybe1Someday you might have one that's already rebuilt. They just want to make sure no one doesn't go poking around inside. If there's no warranty either way, then it couldn't hurt just to take a look.

I have 94 E420 with blink code on pin 4 (LH module) code 10 MAF voltage over or under and code 19 adaptation at limits. These codes have been cleared but come back. MAF is original 320,000. I think this indicates MAF has failed. Car sometimes stumbles at idle when giving gas. Exhaust seems rich. MAF is expensive part so wanted to ask your opinion first.
@FriendlyMBTech2 жыл бұрын
Could be the MAF or a vacuum leak. With that many miles, I would definitely check all the vacuum lines first. Vacuum line is way cheaper than a MAF. Also, the code for the voltage, if you haven't already replaced your upper wiring harness, I'd check to see the condition of that. Maybe the wires are shorted.

From 5:23 to 6:53 I wish you'd show a close-up of the clips around the fuel rail (or at least one) to show how they attach / detach . Never done it before and don't want to break them. Square wire pull up or out? Or is it push in or down?
@FriendlyMBTech2 жыл бұрын
Hello there, are you referring to the fuel injector connectors?
@SirTweakAlot2 жыл бұрын
yes
@FriendlyMBTech2 жыл бұрын
@@SirTweakAlot the fuel injector connectors are really easy to remove. There is a wire retaining clip that needs to be pinched to disconnect. Reconnecting them you just push them on until they click.

Hey my friend! i have a bad MAF for my 119 engine. it is so hard to find one now days. Would you know where to get one?
@ChristopheZ2 жыл бұрын
before you buy one.....try spraying a full can of CRC MAF cleaner in it!!! it did work for me :) Also, my local indy Mercedes repair shop was able to find me a Remanufactured one ( but that was 3-4 years ago)...you could try Ebay for Bosch Reman ones, but make sure that you can return it in case it does not work!! those MAF are NLA new!!!

Cardone can rebuild yours. Here's an email I received from them.: Good Morning Lee, thank you for your request. I do apologize but we are currently out of stock with no E.T.A. as to when we will receive part # 74-10111. This part is however eligible for our rebuild and return program. To participate in the program you can take your core into any parts distributor that works with us, such as; Advance Auto Parts, Oreillys, Napa, Carquest, Pep Boys, and many others. The location will send your core to us, and once we receive your item there is a 3-5 business day turnaround time to complete a rebuild with an 80% chance of a rebuild. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at 1-800-777-4780

Either of these two options would be your best bet. Unless you can find a New Old Stock on somewhere but those are as rare as hens teeth. Parts for these are becoming increasingly difficult to source at the factory level. The engine harness I got for this was one of two in the country.
@FriendlyMBTech2 жыл бұрын
@@ChristopheZ this is a good idea to start with and definitely the cheapest. The MAF will get dirty over time especially if air filters are not changed on the regular.
@FriendlyMBTech2 жыл бұрын
@@leeknight6479 I was unaware of this program. It does seem like a good alternative if parts are unavailable, especially for people wanting to keep "factory" parts. I will definitely look into this if I need to. I really do not know the condition of the MAF on this engine since I've never seen it run.

For the throttle valve to the intake manifold, 25 Nm is correct.

@@FriendlyMBTech Thank you for your very fast answer. I set the torque wrench to 25 Nm and after tightening for a while I was afraid I was going to tear the M6 screw. That's why I'm asking. I'm afraid if the internal thread in the intake manifold will hold up.

@Daniel Jarý yeah definitely take a second look if it feels like the threads are going to strip. 25Nm is pretty snug. That's the sake torque as the oil filter housing.
