Your engine timing instruction will be invaluable when I have to do this job some day. No manual will say to work on this engine when it is completely cold. Your detail is what makes the difference between success and failure. THanks Tasos!!!

Great details!! I love that these people take their car in for the "check up" and refresh/rebuild the motor like the days of old. It makes sense there, cars don't rust at all. The only downside is it rains so little the drains for the ☀ sunroof get blocked with dust. Then when it rains water goes inside the car or in the boot/trunk. Easily fixed by running a piece of string trimmer line down the drain tubes and slowly pouring bottle of water in the track while fishing line until it's draining. Windshields get etched from fine sand.

Thanks so much for this video, going to have to do my C63 cams already in a 2014 with only 38k on it but lobes already have worn, this video is invaluable information to tackle the job, probably will do it in the winter in 3 or so months, hopefully your billet cams might be an option for me!

Tasos, I have to replace the head bolts due to the design flaw. So, I've set the motor to 40 degrees. I have the timing tools. I can slide the flat bar on the intake cam in the rear but I can't slide it into the exhaust. The cam adjuster is in the correct position and the cam locking plate slides on the cams. Can I move forward with pulling the cams? You should also make two videos. One about replacing the head bolts from opening of the hood. And another for replacing the head gasket as a follow on. Thank you for the videos as your knowledge being passed on through them is invaluable. Any info you could pass along would be a vast help. Thank You..

Very Great video Tasos, what happen in case you cannot see or you don’t have the 40 degree mark in the crankshaft pulley? This is my case. I did rotate the pulley till i reach the right position, where the rear tools and the front tools ho inside. Is this correct?

Hey tasos, quick question, so once I have removed the bolts to the phasers, to remove the camshafts & caps always keep it at 40 degrees top dead center right? Or do I have to crank it once more to relieve pressure off the lifters to remove the caps?

Everything was clear except one, will go back to the back of the camshaft adjuster spline gears, there is a hole mark or pointer on each adjusters. Are those supposed to be has a purpose why they're there? Because, if you said is right, the writings of the side of the adjusters are should facing upward, those pointers are not aligned to each other then, and if you try to align them on each bank, the writings are not facing upward anymore but slanted to 1 o'clock now. My questions is, which one is right to follow? The pointer in the back to be aligned or the writings that should facing upward? Thanks.

My story is I turned the engine 360 X 2 then 40 degrees. Then fitted my back sleeve and front locking mechanism but my mistake came from the back plate sliding off before I started loosing the gears but noticed the camshaft had shifter a little not allowing the back plate to slide in. Check the other side and the shaft was off too. So my question before loosing the other 2 gears should I turn the engine again for the sleeve to fit ? I am confused at this point

Tasos, I have multiple misfire codes and vibrations after camshafts replacement and timing setup. Checked the timing twice and everything is in accordance with what you say in this video. Any suggestions or ideas what could cause it? I swapped coils and spark plugs with the other side but it didn’t help. The codes I get are p0300, p0305, p0308.

Hello, in my case the 4 screws from the adjuster broke. And the adjuster is spinning and the cam is not spinning. I do not see impressions from the cam on the lifters also gap between cam and lifters in open position look the same. Can it be that the valves did not hit the piston?

Good evening Tasos You are a great tech. You explain things the right way and you know the m156 engine. I Have a question for you I have 2007 e63 amg with m156 engine 69000miles last week it had a coolant leak. But to get to the point fast. bank 2 side. Has a head bolt broken off and a small coolant is coming out,, I wasn't eving driving the car. The bolt broke off during starting the car I was able to hear it when it broke. Now I took Valve cover off it's not so bad but needs to be clean. I'm a bmw tech not so much on Mercedes but learning w your video very helpful. But someone told me that I need to purchase Mercedes Benz/BMW Rail Pin Slide Hammer Set. I thought all I need is a timing tool only. What do you think..
@TasosMoschatos
@TasosMoschatos 4 жыл бұрын
If you are planning to change the head bolts one at a time you need only the timing tool, if you are planning to take out the cylinder heads then you need the puller to remove the 4 pins.

Hi Tasos, Unfortunately I have terrible ticking noise when I startup the car but usually it went away after a few seconds.. Now it keeps on ticking even when the engine is warm. I will open up the covers tomorrow to inspect the camshafts like you showed in the other videos. When this ticking noise appears is it enough to flip the cap inside of the adjuster to get rid of it or do I have to replace all 4 camshaft adjusters? How can I see that one adjuster is defect and the other one is still ok? When I should have to replace the pocketvalves aswell can I use the SLS ones or do I have to use the regular ones on my 2008 c63 engine? Thanks a lot for your help :)
@TasosMoschatos

Thanks for the video (I wrote you the mail two days ago). I will check the partnumbers of the camshafts, the rest should be fine (double checked everything). Do you heard something of oil supply problems in the heads? But I couldn´t see any unnormal wear at the lifters, cams or other parts. To the thing with the bend valve: But than you have other problems? Mine C63 runs fine (full power etc.), only had that noise.
@TasosMoschatos
@TasosMoschatos 7 жыл бұрын
VelSatisChannel if you have bend valve you will have misfire as well, now for the oil pressure if someone before rebuild the engine and use 1kg of sealant there is a possibility to block some oil path's other than this i never face any problem like yours
@mb-planet
@mb-planet 7 жыл бұрын
Ok,I have no misfire. Will check the cams first. Yes the previous owner rebuild the engine and used even between block and head sealant.

But than I should have unnormal wear? The repair from the previous owner is not new (think the drove the car some times after that) But when i opened it for headbolts, there wasn´t anything unusual. After my head bolt repair also also run now almost 3.000km without any issus, except the noise. Also got the heads planned by a workshop.

Thanks for the reply. It's not visible so I'm not sure where to poke a magnet. I was also conscious that I may damage something using a magnet. Would draining the oil make a difference? Or removing the cylinder head? What is the option to get the annoying piece out?!

Trusted Fleet no need to remove the cylinderhead, worst case scenario you have to open the oil pan, try with strong magnet you can't damage anything there just be careful with the camshafts

Tasos Moschatos Hi Tasos. An update and need a suggestion. I explored the cylinder head and found the four holes next to the head bolts behind the exhaust camshaft. I used a camera to see at the bottom of the hole and could not see the small tool I dropped. I checked the cylinders too to rule that out. I then used a magnetic in the holes and no luck. I decided to open the lower oil pan yesterday and sadly the tool wasn't there. Before removing the pan I pushed oil into the cylinder head so in case it needed to be pushed down the valley into the oil pan. Since I cannot not retrieve it from the cylinder head holes or lower oil pan. What do you suggest I do? Many thanks for your response in advance!
