In my use case, a Laptop that only holds its battery life a few hours is very annoying... But I also have the m1 Pro 16" and I don't really need more power so I would just keep mine😄 That MSI Laptop is more like a Workstation that goes from one Desk to another than a portable Laptop... For me a MacBook Pro 16" plus a desktop Gaming PC is way better.

Put the M2 Max in the the same case, and let it use 300W, it will blow the Intel Machine away. The MSI thing is not a laptop, its a Desktop Replacement, nothing more. Dont know why you still compare a Desktop CPU with a real Mobile CPU.
@abubakrakram6208
@abubakrakram6208 Жыл бұрын
@@torstenfichtner6039 This is a ridiculous argument, because there's no evidence that Apple would ever do that, or that it would even give you the performance you want. And surprise surprise: if something doesn't happen, it doesn't matter if it's possible. MacPS COULD run great games but it won't because no one makes them for the system. That's a perfect example of why hypotheticals don't matter.

I’ve recently switched to an M1 Air, first time going Mac after 30 years of Windows and sometimes dabbling in Linux. For my workflow, it is the best machine I’ve owned, though it doesn’t game, which has become less of an issue for me. The battery life is unlike any machine I’ve had before and the performance does not take a hit. It is a truly mobile device. For me, M1 is a great first showing of the tech, and a move in the right direction for the industry. The MacBook Air went from a device I would not recommend to my worst enemies to being the default if you have the budget and just want a daily driver.

That's one thing I really love about my M1 laptops (using them for development). They are always quiet and cool and last me a day even with resource hoggers such as Teams. I do have a fully fledged PC for gaming and for intense tasks, but it seems I am really only using it for games nowadays and it's kinda too expensive for that, so perhaps I should sell the Ryzen 5900X / 3090RTX / 64GB RAM / 2*1TB Samsung 980Pro, because a PS5 is cheaper. I always had a desktop and a laptop (for college) but spending 3-4 hours on campus back to back classes pretty much I always had to bring my charger. I finally decided to get a MacBook Pro M1 and that’s when my life got easier. I can edit videos, schoolwork, browsing, and some GeForce now , with ending my day at about 70% battery. There are many models on the PC side that do in fact try to go directly for the MacBook Pro market (not that there are too many cross-shoppers anymore). The biggest hurdle on the PC side though is the difficulty in moving over to the much more energy efficient ARM architecture. Apple has full control of their ecosystem and was able to pull the plug on x86 machines practically overnight. PC makers can't do that without causing a lot of problems with legacy users and a lot of other problems. It'll happen eventually, but it's years away still.

In 3D rendering tasks, even 5 seconds of difference can save you a lot of time, since we do not really render one frame in a typical project, there are thousands of frames if it's a project of decent size. Even if you save 5 seconds per frame, that's 1.3 hours you are saving (assuming it's a 1000-frame shot), so msi definitely takes the win here for 3d artists. also vray benchmark and corona benchmarks would be a nice addition along with blender and cinebench for 3D artists.

Hi Luke! Thanks for doing such a well-reasoned and thoughtful video that really shows off each machine at its best. If I had any criticism of this -- and I had to think about this for a bit before coming up with one -- a brief mention of "performance per watt" would have been yet another big gap between the two. Personally, the constant disco light show and more importantly fan noise would make me crazy, so that let's me out of the MSI. For gaming with noise-cancelling headphones on, however -- and as long as I'm not paying the electric bill -- Intel and MSI have got a dream desktop (in a laptop form factor) for around the same price as the Mac.
