The machining marks are not a consequence of improper tooling. it is a trade off for faster machining time. the machining marks are much more visible before the uppers are tumbled and sand blasted and anodized. they smooth out decently well. Source: me, i helped work on these. if brownells would have required the marks to be gone the machine time would have gone up, thus increasing the price. to my knowledge they never requested this. I no longer work at the shop that is manufacturing these for brownells. so im not able to comment on current production.

I made an "M27 IAR at home" build of myself with these BRN-4 uppers, though it's a lot closer to the current ones I'm seeing on recent Marine training videos. I went with their 16" HBAR nitride barrel model, got the proper 11" quad rail on mine, got a bayonet lug drilled/pinned on it, 1-8x VCOG, KAC flip up sights, manta rail covers, a KAC broomhandle and a Harris bipod, a dummy PEQ-16 unit mounted on top, and have an FDE cerakoted Griffin M4SD-K (looks close enough to an NT4 for me) on it as a "permanent suppressor host" of sorts since they're all running cans over there. Thing comes in at about 14 lbs unloaded and it is a monster to carry and try to shoot offhand, but it's very soft/flat shooting and the weight undoubtedly helps with that. We have the exact same buffer too, which I find amusing. I also have a A5H4 K-SPEC buffer in my lower for this, but I've combined it with a Tubbs .308 flat wire spring on my specific build to really make it soft with the suppressor on while still being able to cycle Tula in the winter if I wanted to for whatever reason. I’m encouraged that they offer a chrome lined option and unlike the actually HK version it has a FA carrier. For that kind of money I might get the newer version from Caracal.

Wow, literally 2 days after I bought my brn4 upper lol. I got mine in 10.4 with the CL barrel. Haven't watched the vid yet but hopefully its positive lol. YES!! I didn't waste my money! Planning on running my new turbo t3 with the srx system on it can't wait!

LMT piston boi passing by. This is definitely interesting and cool, at least a lot better rifle for the money than the MR556A1. That self-adjusting gas seems to be far from good tho, tons of gas despite it has a special buffer system. And it will be louder since it vents large amounts of high-pressure gas right out the barrel. I do much prefer the LMT piston system. Very accurate and durable cyro chrome lined barrel. Excellent 2-piston gas that keeps the ejection almost identical. The regulator and piston can be taken out in seconds since they come out the front together, so there is no need to mess with the handguard like the HK system. The piston block is press fit and pinned onto the barrel, combined with a piston head that has gas rings making a very sealed, therefore efficient system. And since it is a 7075 monolithic upper, it automatically has the most reliable handguard.

I'd like to see you do a review of the Caracal 816 since you just did this review on tbe 416 clone.

Just finished a very similar build, 14.5" medium profile barrel, SI forward assist and dust cover(In FDE, at least), with a Forward Controls flash hider, and a maxim 12" handguard. It's a tad on the heavy side, but just about the same as an M4A1 railed upper, so I'll manage. Can agree, surprisingly accurate, even over longer strings of fire, which I wasn't expecting, given the lighter profile of the barrel, but Faxon has gotten their barrels down, so I'm led to believe that's just what one can expect from these barrels. In general, I agree. Good video, now hurry up with that 14.5 Creed gun, already!

I released the design files for a 416 upper receiver and handguard that uses a normal AR barrel nut thread pitch and gas tube. The idea is that you can use a normal AR15 barrel assembly and Direct Impingement system instead of a fancy and expensive HK piston system.

Have yo had a chance to mess with the Caracal 816? Its supposed to be a product improved 416. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on how it compares if you get a chance to test one.

416 is the way. 10.4” even more so. I have mine next to me right now 😊 I was lucky to get a HK made 416 upper receiver when I pieced mine together. No machining mark’s whatsoever which you’d expect from HK

I didn't see the BCG. But, as a repeat customer of Adam's arms, the differences between the carriers are, anvil location, and shape. The S/A will have a small, smooth, dimple for the drive rod. And, be further back than the A/A. Also, older Adam's arms have a weird coating color, more grey than black internal parts. I really hope to see the Adams arms 6.5 creedmoor rifle here sometime.

Thought about going this route, but wound up getting a 16" Caracal 816 a2 upper,, and building out a stripped BA lower. Weighed in at 7lbs 3oz without a light, optic, or VFG. That is with a spider co powdered tungsten T3 buffer.

For the price of just this clone upper and a clone correct handgun, you could get a full MK18(or a 16in variant), and have a complete gun that's more reliable(Even more reliable than an actual 416)... This isn't knocking FocusTripp, his reviews, or this channel. I love this channel. I am saying this for people considering spending money.

Was your "softest smoothest" shooting done with that A5 system? If so, disingenuous comment based on a configuration you don't recommend using. I had an MR-556 back in the day and sold it once I shot a 516. Based on other comments, you're sure to love the Caracal 816.

I think it would be cool to have, but I would likely be better served with just buying another upper from you that is configured in a way I like. If I want a piston gun though, I need to move out of CT and buy an AK (shooting one recently made the itch way worse).

To be honest. For a 416, why not just get a real upper and clone lower? These are never going to replace your go to di gun. It’s for collecting and larp. If you get a brn, you would always wanting a real one. The machining marks reminds you every time you pick it up

Very informative review. To me a little pricey for that but still interesting. What did you think of that optic combo? Doesn't the 5 power restrict FOV at little much? I like the 3X but it has no RMR mount like the 5 which makes no sense to me why Vortex did that. What are the pros and cons in your opinion for that optic vs the 3X?

I want one. I have an HKMR556 but not with the quad handguard that I really like. I know Nefarious Arms makes a similiar one.

Why not use a MR556 and swap the handguard? That way you get the real deal, a cold hammer forged accurate barrel and proper parts precision made from purpose engineered materials with HK durable coatings and heat treatments. Instead of a cheap knock-off, that probably doesn't last long? I have a BRN-4 lower receiver from Brownells, it did not fit an original HK416 upper very well, too much wobble, was disappointed in the quality.

Brownells > Palmetto for quality. My BRN - M16a1 is going 6 years string and over 2,000 rounds.

The 416 civilian version is a mr556 is it not?? They are about 1800 online for an upper. What am I missing here with the price?

Shedding barrel length and thus energy on target and range seems stupid for A gun that is meant to be used for suppression that is already compromised by not carrying significantly more rounds before requiring A reload. Take the barrel out to 18 or 20 and flute it.

I know you love them, but the intros aren't useful. They just act as a buffer between me and the part of the video that I actually care about.
