Excellent video, sir.. putting back together my S54 (2004 M3) right now, just got the block and crank back from the shop.. I'm about to purchase my 2nd JE cut ring gasket, since the 1st one was destroyed when my machinist used the torque plate on the block.. before I pull trigger, how has your cut ring gasket been holding thus far? I believe it to be superior to MLS, but just worried that one of the rings might go out of alignment when I drop the head on the block!!

Been going through your videos while taking apart and putting things back together on my 92 325is. In your head prep video you nebo installing the exhaust manifolds while the head is outside of the car. Did you make a video of installing the head with the exhaust manifolds? Any tricks or things to look out for? I've seen other videos andre they cut the heads off the old head bolts and use them as guides pins while setting the head into the block. My head has two short guide dowels. Are the long guide bolts necessary?
@M3NACE
@M3NACE 2 ай бұрын
Dont need them to guide, the stock dowels work just fine for that. Pulling heads with the exhaust manifold on is my prefered way of doing it, it just can be extremely hard to do with the A/C compressor and bracket installed.

@M3NACE thanks for taking the time. Great to have someone out there that's so helpful. I tried removing the ac compressor, but after pulling all the bolts, there still seems to be something still holding it in place. It would spin and move quite a bit, but it seemed that something flexible was holding it to the block. I just booked it back in place before i damaged it

Is it leaking on the motor in front of the dash or behind the dash into the cabin? If it's in the cabin it's the hester core, if its from the motor itll be the headgasket and you will need to replace it

Hello, I’ve heard people talk about spraying the surfaces with copper spray before installing the actual head gasket. Is it necessary?
@M3NACE
@M3NACE 3 жыл бұрын
copper spray is used if you are running a copper headgasket, you coat the spacer on both sides, install, then install the headgasket, but the cutring should be installed dry.

Have an M52B28 97 Z3 with only 10K miles on it. Only driven by me and never overheated or driven hard. Service tech telling me a very small seepage of coolant coming for back of engine below exhaust manifold and says new head gasket may be needed. No symptoms of blown head gasket, engine runs perfect, no oil/coolant contamination, never had to add coolant between changes, recent old style CA emission test shows engine in brand new condition (NO (PPM) 1 out 451 Max allowable). Do I need to replace head gasket and who would be the best shop in San Diego area to do this work if needed? Cannot imagine that heads are warped since it never overheated (temp gauge always in middle, cooling system serviced/ drained/ refilled every two years since new regardless of miles).
@M3NACE
@M3NACE Жыл бұрын
I would leave it alone and monitor it, and see how much coolant is leaking, id imagine they are recommending it due to the age and lack of miles on the engine, or just want to sell you the work. But if its loosing alot of coolant and you are constantly refilling that it would be worth it to fix.

All I get is 1st 30nm 2nd 90• degrees 3rd 90• degrees for cast iron block. Where by your one 1st 25ft-lbs converted 33nm 2nd 50ft-lbs converted 67nm 3rd 75ft-lbs converted 101nm Is this a gamble that I could be taking for the future ? Does your torque wrench not read Newton meters ?
@M3NACE
@M3NACE 5 жыл бұрын
my torque wrench reads in nm, i just use the foot pounds side lol. notice that I am installing ARP head studs, not OEM Factory head bolts. if you torque OEM head bolts this way, it will not work. OE head bolts need to be torque angled, ARP Studs do not.

Hey bro, with the torque on the cylinder head is ok with that sequence 25, 50, 75? because others say that the sequence for the M50 is 22-25 lb and 2 last sequences of 90 degrees, I have the doubt because if the sequence you did works then I would like to apply it because I do not have a torsion angle meter and it gives me lazy to get it xd

@@M3NACE idk about you, but I would be doing valve seals the same time I had the head off, a very notorious fail point for these engines. Also a great time to inspect the cam bearings. Now maybe if you have good compression on all cylinders and you just sent it a bit to hard on a headgasket repair done 20k miles ago or something sure, not a whole lot of reason to worry about those things if you did them recently 😉 TLDR sometimes a failure turns out to be a blessing in disguise you may not have otherwise seen if you hadn't checked at the right time.
