It’s such a joy watching you work, Sreten. Thank you for giving us a whole hour of serious wrenching, we are indeed a spoiled bunch. Seeing you finally marry the chassis and engine was therapeutic, you sure had your work cut out for you. Those restored zinc-plated fasteners were the cherry on top that this Project Marseille needed. It’s amazing seeing how much support the BMW community is able to provide in all your restorations, we sure are indebted to all of them for their continued support. I can’t wait to hear this shiny new M70 V12 engine roar back to life, that will be one epic unveiling for this project. Thanks for everything you do, and we’ll see you on the next episode, my friend.

That thing with the aluminium sheet made me think a lot…if you want to achieve perfection, or get pretty close to it, you need to do things by yourself. No professional workshop would go down to details like Sreten does. Every task implies that a lot of time is invested in technical research, if some spare parts are needed you need to find them somewhere and wait for them to be delivered and, finally comes the moment to properly install and make everything working. Not a lot of people are patient and mentally prepared to do what Sreten does. Personally i don’t have the time, the space and all the tools to deal with car restorations…and maybe this is the reason why i love this channel so much. I envy you, in the good way.

It's unbeliavable how M539 Restorations thumbnail stands out amongst the rest. Not because of the editing, which is not overly appealing, but because you know the content will be fantastic. If you are a perfeccionist or like things to be done really well, you don't get disappointed, instead, he will go even further than you could have expected. Amazing, as always. Thanks, Sreten.

Some extra info about that AC condenser: The old one is what's known as a "tube and fin" design. It is made of metal fins pushed onto copper pipes. They are less efficient and very heavy, and also rust out eventually. But they are less prone to leaking, and can be repaired if they still leak. The cheaper new one is an aluminium microchannel condenser. They are much more efficient, allowing them to be a lot smaller, and they weigh much less, both due to being made of lighter materials, and due to being smaller. They also rarely rust out. However, they are a bit more fragile and can not be repaired in any way. If they leak, in the trash they go. If the fins are bent: trash. If the entire thing is dented or bent: trash. If the system was contaminated by a failed compressor: trash. Considering that almost noone repairs condensers this small anyways, that isn't really a big issue, but they are also more prone to getting bent or dented, which might make it one. Almost every new car comes with one of these since about 2000, and on average, they last about 10-15 years before they leak or get dented too badly. The better new one is a coated microchannel, which is heavier and less efficient (but still miles better than the tube-and-fin one), which is why it's larger, but the coating also makes it more resillient. Those often last 15-20 years.

The new condensers are also known as "parallel flow" as the channels flow in parallel from one side to the other while the old one is a serpentine type one.

Out of all the KZfaqrs I followed, the book came down to 3 letters!!! Sreten, Tavarish and Mat Armstrong! With the difference that behind Tavarish and Mat Armstrong there is an almost unlimited budget! Huge technical support from big players in the auto industry and perfect production! Behind Sreten is only incredible motivation and a huge amount of love that is needed to bring such projects to an end! I am very happy that the channel is growing very quickly, that will in the futurel facilitate Sretens job, which he loves so much, and bring us "someone in the crowd said ", pure prime time , which has become rare on KZfaq today. Thank you Sreten!

Great work, as always. I think one of the fascinating things about this is that you have to do 1000 little things which all have to be done right before you see if you did everything right. And you can't easily go back and fix anything you missed. That needs a lot of attention to detail all the time. Great!

Best episode you did in quite some time. You took your time to film and show us all that you did; Maserati episodes felt rushed. Absolutely loved it!

I have to agree, last episode was somehow short and rushed. One hour and three minutes sound muuch better.

maybe the editor he pays to edit the episodes edited different than he himself when he films and edits them all by himself. Maserati were good but I bet cus so much is new, and too fast editing it seemed different.

as a lower class worker in a developing country, I most likely will not be able to own a BMW. Watching this content is really fun and I can still imagine that I have a BMW. Don't stop creating content like this, sir. Thank You

Awesome episode! I ran into the same AC condenser issue when I restored an old suburban. Original condenser was dimensionally larger in just about every regard and was the tube and fin style. The “OE” replacements which were all I could find were much smaller. Ultimately the reason for this is the original refrigerant like your BMW was R12 which was used until 1994 here in the states. After that all vehicles up until about 5ish years ago used R-134a. R12 is a much larger molecule hence the reason for a continuous tube in the original condenser. R-134a is roughly half the size of R12 and needs to be cooled with a parallel flow condenser to get the best AC performance. The newer style condensers are much more efficient which allow them to be smaller. Keep in mind that if this system was never converted prior to your ownership it would be a good idea to have the remaining ac lines and evap core back flushed to get the old mineral oil out as it is not compatible with r-134a which needs PAG oil.

As an original E31 owner that I still drive and take care of, I was eager to see the obstacles of facing/addressing the NLA parts. Fantastic work and fantastic content. Great planning and sourcing. This car pays dividends of long term enjoyment. Prost to many more miles and years of enjoyment with your E31! Salidais! #FusibleLinks
