Usually buy them from Transtar. If they don't have it, most major cities have standard transmission supply shops. You will just have to do a local search. I don't know if I had Transtar's link in the description of this older video, but it is in all the newer videos.

It is not needed. It seals the tail housing as it is coming down the assembly line and gets pushed into the transmission when they install the driveshaft.

Since it is only in 5th look close at the synchro and slider. Make sure the actuator rod that goes into the shift rail is not upside down. Luckily you can take that apart in the truck. Take the tail housing off and see if it is fully engaging when you put it in 5th.

@@CurmudgeonTransmission - Pulled the trans back out and found that the large 5th gear was installed backwards but when I put it all back together it STILL doesn't hold 5th gear!!! I have no idea what the heck os wrong.

I know what is wrong. Just went back and watched the video. When I edited the video I put the wrong part in. At the 58:11:06 mark when I took the gear off to put the idler gear in I at first assembled it wrong and then changed it, Got the wrong assembly in the video. The washer should go first then the bearing then the nut. I am so sorry about that. I can not go back and change the video so I am posting it in the description and hope people see it. May have to delete this video I don't want to screw anyone else up on it.

Transgel gold, no longer available. Going to go back to the Transgel blue now. I used to use red a long time ago but to many people were mistaking it for transmission fluid leaks when it would melt. That is why I went to the Gold. Dr. Tranny green. I use Loctite 598 silicone. Book calls for ATF, we use 30W motor oil. Depends on your climate. If you are in really cold areas, you might want to stick with ATF.

Thanks. You could but I would put a thin bead of silicone under it. Same with the plugs. Use a good silicone like Ultra black. Best fix is putting in cup plugs instead of the rubber plugs. Usually those rubber pieces that hold the shifter in place are deteriorating. They make a rebuild kit for just the top cover. It will come with the plugs and rubber gasket. If it comes with the shifter make sure it is the same. There are 2 different lengths. Your reverse problem is either the reverse light switch or there is a reverse lockout mechanism inthe top cover to keep you from shifting into reverse while going forward. You would need to pull the cover off and take a look at it.

@Curmudgeon Transmission thank you for the quick response. What should I be looking for on the reverse issue? What is the fix for either of the 2 reverse lockout issues?

@Curmudgeon Transmission I'm into the top cover. Not sure what I need to check for the 2 reverse issues you mentioned and what the fix is for either. I snapped a couple pictures if you wanted to see them. I can tell you that it seemed to lock out the reverse once it had traveled on the highway at speed. Another leak. Seems to be coming from the top sensor (wires are cut off for some reason) on right hand side, top cover. When the sensor is removed, it has a movable ball on sensor and a ball inside tranny as well. Any help would be appreciated, thank you

Need to make sure the switch is moving in and out smoothly. There are spring loaded detents on the 2 outside shift rails. They should do the same. On the backside of the cover there is a spring loaded plate. It needs to do the same. You cannot send pictures here. You will need to go to my Instagram to do that and I will look at them. Have moved the camera since this video, has a better angle. Don't have a camera person so it is trial and error. When I get another one in it will be redone with the new position.
