Part 1 - Disassembly Tutorial M5R1 Transmission
1. Remove move the top lid (12mm bolts)
2. Remove the input shaft front plate (12mm bolts)
3. Remove the tail housing (14mm bolts)
4. Remove snap ring from speedometer
5. Remove speedometer
6. Remove steel ball
7. Remove lock-nut from the output shaft (top shaft)
8. Remove bearing from output shaft with special puller tool and pry bars
9. Remove lock-nut from counter shaft
10. Remove bearing and washer

Just subscribed. I just watched all of the videos on this rebuild. I have a '98 Ranger, and the transmission is not doing well. Just seeing this video is giving me more knowledge and confidence to rebuild my transmission.

At the end of the video the spacer ring does not go between the bearing and nut. it goes under the bearing to set clearance for bearing.

No gasket on the tail housing? Just curious. Mine has black rtv on the tail housing. It’s leaking out the bottom.

Can any one tell me the difference between a 1994 and 1995 2.3 manual ranger transmission is it just the speedo gears and can i swap them out

I have this transmission and it was rebuilt by a shop about a year ago. The throwoutbearing has a rattle unless I push in the clutch but my maim concern in the shaking of the shifter. Whenever I'm in 1st or 3rd especially with a load on the engine or going uphill my shift shakes way more than it's supposed too. Does anyone know what causes this its driving me crazy trying to figure it out

maybe a shifter kit will help that it's easy to do it your self.
