thank you very much for this review, please, what would you recommend for music composition with a lot of orchestral VST instruments in Logic pro? I'm currently working on my Imac pro 2016

Honestly I would use any of the latest m1 or even now the m2 max studios. They’re well priced, insanely powerful. If that’s a bit of overkill the max minis are well spec’d as well. All of the new apple silicon stuff works very well for audio

Love it when young people talk about the cost. Apple Mac Studio, Studio Monitor in configuration I was looking to purchase would've cost me $4,198.00 which is less than my original Macintosh I purchased in 1984 at $2,500 when adjusted for inflation would be $6,764.87 on the introduction date of the Apple Studio lineup. Thing is always purchase the best tool you can to do the job over the years when in the production world.

100% agree on right tool for the job. On costs, everyone's budget is different. I'm not going to recommend a $4000 computer to someone who has no acoustic treatment, limited mic selection or a basic interface with no outboard.

I'm currently waiting to see if the M2Pro mini comes out in October, otherwise the Studio is the way I'll go for sure. One thing that I feel like a lot of people don't know about is that Apple offer a 14 day return policy so if you buy it from Apple and hate it, you can take it back and just get a refund, not store credit or like for like. It doesn't matter if it's a phone, iPad or computer and whether it's a stock standard or custom order. You literally have nothing to lose in at least giving them a go to see if either one is right for you.

That's actually awesome to know. Thank you. The M1 studio has honestly been pretty damn awesome. Workflow, reliability during sessions and so damn quiet honestly. I wish I'd been able to get one sooner.

The outboard gear mixing stream would be dope.

definitely going to get a live stream going very, very soon. Where abouts are you located, and what time do you think would be good? It's tricky, most of my audience is in america, but I'm in australia.... should be interesting figuring that one out! haha!

You do realize each thunderbolt port on the Mac mini splits out to 4 thunderbolt ports, right?
@diyrecordingstudio
@diyrecordingstudio 2 жыл бұрын
Sure but the bandwidth is shared. You don’t magically get the full bandwidth of 4 thunderbolt ports. If you want low latency for video and audio hardware, you’re not going to run all your gear through a hub.

I went with the unbinned MacBook Pro M1 Pro 1tb/16gb (similar price as baseline Studio Max. The extra GPU and Ram of the Max is wasted on guys like us. Even with your video editing mentioned, the extra GPU is overkill..and by a huge margin. (Unless you’re doing multi 8k streams?!) The unbinned CPU is actually the exact same as the Max, many people don’t get this. So audio-wise they are identical performers. I figured if I was gonna spend over $2k, the money would go towards portability and not power increases that are meaningless to my workflow. (I would have rather a M1 Pro Mac Mini for around $1500 being the same spec as the MBP because the M1 Pro is the sweet spot for audio production) In the end, this machine is over double the power of my I7 Coffee Lake Hackintosh. Which was already plenty powerful enough as is for audio and video editing paired with a 1070Ti. But now with this MBP I can do things like Melodyne client vocals in my backyard hanging out with my dog enjoying fresh air.

Totally agree with some of the issues of processing, price and the potential of a MacBook Pro or a Mac mini as an option for audio. However, what you are forgetting about is hardware io. As I stated in the video it was the crucial thing I needed for all my outboard to work.
@ilikemyrealname
@ilikemyrealname 2 жыл бұрын
@@diyrecordingstudio I went with a OWC TB Dock for IO. Works amazingly well. One cable for charging and data. I have a plethora of devices connected. All working beautifully together. Multiple audio interfaces, multiple cameras, multiple external storage devices, multiple Ethernet ports, so on all working at the same time. I spent nearly 2 months planning before I made my purchases. IO was far from forgotten.

I just looked at a Dell for $1400 i7 Vpro 12 Cores 32 gb of Ram 512 GB storage lasted PCIe SSD drive with a 2TB External Drive.....this is sweet deal..... if that cant run plugins and DAW.....its user error....LOL

Yeah John, I’ve been a pc guy for ages. And there’s no doubt the costs can be way higher spec for spec on a Mac vs pc. However, I work on Mac, I now have an iPhone. I’ll probably get an m1 or m2 laptop when my current one dies. Why? Because audio drivers and support from audio companies on pc is hit or miss. I was sick of certain gear not working and weird driver issues. The amount of hours wasted trying to get pc systems to work, the Mac actually has paid for itself. Whatever tool works best for the job. With all the audio, video and upcoming streaming stuff I’m about to do, the Mac is more reliable.

Im using a dell Opti 9020 with i7 and 20gb or ram...its running great....THE ONLY REASON...im upgrading...is because it needs the latest SSD Drive and I think the newer ones have a better cooling system in them...matter of fact if you get the wide tower...fans can be installed in them...still cheaper to customize a Dell...instead of letting MAC take ya to the bank...LOL

It’s great! If it is in your budget and you’re due for an upgrade, definitely. If you don’t need all the ins and outs of this Mac, you could get a Mac mini for even cheaper. Depends on how much gear you need to connect.
