Hinna 101 sorry this is really late. But the "Damned spot" is the blood on her hands as a hallucination and she has spiralled in to madness in the eyes of the modern audience. You could argue reasoning for this is the fact that the pressure of the prophecies made them live up to what the prophecies say. Without the prophecies ( some would say) no massacres would have happened as Macbeth didn't really think about power as being thane was enough. Why would he kill his father figure and best friend all in the name of power if he already had enough pride and braveness? The real question is "were the witches' prophecies simply prophecies or were they the epitome of everything that happened?". By this, I mean: were they simply predicting the future or did they do all of the dirty work? Would the witches not have interfered with Macbeth's life, would he still become king and lead many lives to an end.
