Thanks for your Thumbs Up to support our craft! My first try using metallic embroidery thread came out perfect with the new DIME Metallic Embroidery Thread made by Kingstar from Japan. This thread is wrapped in a layer of rice paper for pliability and then the color is wrapped in a thin polyester shell. It has overcome the kinking, twisting, and breaking and just falls off the spool to puddle which legacy metallics rarely did. You can use a standard 75/11 needle without having to slow down the machine. Use the Red & Blue on Quilts of Valor or any of your Americana flag panels. Think about designs that have anything shiny in them like a car or seashell or anything that looks like water or fish. It comes in 15 colors.

Isn’t it great to have your spouse support your hobby?! We are former military as well. My husband understands getting fabric from quilt shops for the higher thread count. Watching you two work together is fun. Don’t they have a motto, “get her done”? You will be quilting on your long arm in no time! Thanks for the tip on the metallic thread.

Yes, I'm so blessed that he supports my crazy obsession with power tools and thread. lol We military are cut from a different cloth and I really think the wives are a special breed themselves. They have to learn to be independent when he's gone but fall back into support mode when he's home. It makes us very flexible people and more adaptable to nearly all situations. We usually try to have fun together not matter what we do. We fully understand that life is too short! Thanks for watching!

it was good to be able to watch the thread coming off the spool. That is the part I was most interested in. I have used metallic thread and it would come off the spool like fine wire and I saw that thread came off just like normal thread. It was very exciting to be able to watch the spool. I will certainly purchase some. You always provide great info. Speaking of which, we were in your area and stopped in Fredricksberg and went to the quilt store WOW!

Oh I'm so glad you enjoyed Creations! That's the best store and I like the owners so much. Yes, I wanted you to see the thread coming off the cone. Deborah Jones says it will even come off fine in a horizontal position so you really don't need any special vertical equipment if you don't have it. You can tell I dropped the shade behind the machine to see if it helped you to see the thread or not but it got too dark for the contrast so I opened it again. It does come off the spool just like regular embroidery thread. Thank you so much for watching!

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that! Perhaps it's not the thread? When troubleshooting, if you've changed one thing several times and the problem persists, then perhaps the issue is not the thing you're changing. If you have a buddy who embroiders or can do a test in a shop, you might give it a try on their machine with the DIME thread and see if continues to be a problem. At least you'd know then for sure.

After watching this video I decided to try KingStar Metallic thread. But sad to say it does not work for me. I have a Bernina 880+ and tried EXACTLY as you show. I even purchased the same angel design as you have in the video. I put KingStar gold in the bobbin and on top. I used a Schmetz 75/11 titanium Gold Embroidery needle. Upper thread kept getting shredded. I tried over and over. Same result. So I adjusted the top tension. Still KingStar Metallic shredded. I tried a larger needle. Same problem. I changed the bobbin to Isacord thread and it stitched out a little bit longer duration but again, the thread shredded at the needle. I slowed the machine down, but still the thread shredded. So I changed the needle to Schmetz 90/14 titanium Gold Embroidery and the design stitched somewhat longer before the KingStar thread shredded and broke. Very sad because I was hoping KingStar was the answer to my metallic embroidering problems. I purchased five cones of KingStar online and hope I can still use them on small accent areas in my embroidering designs and also for regular sewing to add highlights and perhaps some special effects with fancy stitches. I have also tried Madeira metallics, Sulky and Yenmet. I am giving up trying to embroider ANY design using 100% metallic thread. I would like to add that the embroidery designs I have been trying to stitch using metallic thread do stitch out okay using Isacord polyester embroidery thread. Thank you for your time.

@@PowerToolsWithThread Well, I now I am going to try changing the WSS. I have been using Sulky Ultra Solvy. After so many attempts at achieving the results you demonstrate here, I figure the only other variable is the wash-away stabilizer. I got some OESD AquaMesh stabilizer. It is more like a lightweight fabric, whereas the Ultra Solvy is similar to a plastic film. Being someone who does not give up easily, I will try the AquaMesh and see how it goes. That looks like a very nice thread stand you are using. I like that you are able to put multiple spools on there. What brand is the thread stand and where did you find that? Do you think using a thread stand instead of using your machine thread holder made a difference in how the metallic stitched out?
@PowerToolsWithThread
@PowerToolsWithThread 4 жыл бұрын
Here's the link on Amazon for the thread stand. I love it and it came with all kinds of thread caps which have been SO handy! I especially like the spring on the top to hold the ends up out of the way so they don't tangle. I've heard that you can have the metallic thread come off the cone horizontally without any problems but I've not tried it. This thread stand has made my multi-color embroidery so incredibly easy. I've done 3, 222 stitches and have had at least 15 thread breaks. Have slowed my machine down to as low as it will go, rewound my thread, after I had so much trouble before starting this project, using a Schmetz metallic 80/12 needle. What else can I possibly try. I even made me a cup to hold my thread as recommended by John Deer. Help please.

Oh my, that is SO frustrating!! I might suggest an Organ embroidery needle. I've used both the Organ 75/11 and 90/14. If you are using a Brother or BabyLock machine, they are timed at the manufacturer with Organ needles. I too had multiple thread breaks with all of my threads until I switched to Organ needles and now I rarely use Schmetz needles any more. Becky Becky Becky....so excited to see this tutorial. Honestly I’m in the process of making red velvet Xmas stockings that I embroider the child’s name on them with gold Metallic thread ( won’t mention the brand as it may upset someone 🙄) but I don’t dare take my eyes off it because it will take advantage to break or snag ..and I’ve got to hold my mouth just right too😂. Every Xmas I say I’m not making anymore but then some family member or friend or a friend of a friend will have a baby and ask if I will make them one.Wells it’s a bit like having a baby really because I forget the pain and frustration and do it again😂. It’s going to cost me a arm and a leg to get some shipped to N.Z but I’m getting it . Thanks a million Becky and your angel looked gorgeous. 😘💐⚪️

DOES DIME HAVE A REGULAR PHONE NUMBER THAT YOU CAN CALL TO ACTUALLY TALK TO SOMEBODY? MY PHONE WON'T LET ME ACCESS DIME BY OPENING AN EMAIL THAT THEY SENT TO MY PHONE. I DON'T KNOW WHY.

I didn't need software for this stich out, but I normally use Embrilliance. I downloaded the angel from Embroidery Designs and just saved it to the USB for the machine this time. Thanks for watching!
