I love watching all of the ugly oxidized outer metal get removed to reveal the beautiful clean stock underneath. The really interesting part of watching your videos is trying to second guess how you are going to solve the next problem and then see how differently you approach the solution. I must say I am jealous, you are getting all of our rain. You never disappoint Max.

Whittling it away, seems to make all the difference using your good going out chuck, nice and clean work. Hoping the rain eases up soon, been a pretty good run but I need to get some work in the yard done so it can stop now. Thanks Max

Rained solidly for last 4 days, typhoon just north of Taiwan heading for China. Newly formed typhoon heading for Japan, might dampen the Olympics.

Max, really enjoying this series. Lots of good tips and techniques to help us home gamers with all the operations involved. Hopefully you’ll have a few minutes at the end of the series to explain how this clutch works I’ve been trying to figure it out just looking at the features. Looking forward to the next episode… ATB…

Mad Max Machine Shop getting it done! We could use a bit of that rain ourselves. It has been 2 weeks since we had any and the ground is starting to crack.
@swanvalleymachineshop3 жыл бұрын
I think we have just had 3 weeks straight & more forecast for the next 7 days . Now the paddocks need mowing , tree's need trimming & the old John Deere ride on shat the gearbox today !!! That will put the brakes on shed & You tube progress for a bit until i catch up . But you get that ! Cheers .

Hi Chris . Eastern states have a lot of lock downs going on , but here in the West we are covid free at the moment . But that can change quickly , we had a short lockdown a couple of weeks ago . Cheers .

I would have loved to see the first part where you were cutting that bevel on a split screen. I know you were working the compound and cross slide together and making it look like a CNC machine. 👍

That's called MNC {Max numeric control} !!!

I did a split screen shot in an early video , it was a pain in the but trying to get the timing correct . I have not tried it with the programme i use at the moment .....Yet !!!

@@randydeboer832 I like it 👍
@simpleman2833 жыл бұрын
I wasn't really asking for a split screen, I was just wanting you to know that I recognise your skill. randy named it MNC (Max Numeric Control). That works for me. 👍
@swanvalleymachineshop3 жыл бұрын
Thanks ! That's good , i hate editing split screens & don't now how to do it on the current programme i use . Cheers .

Hi Paul . Yesterday is the first day i was delayed by the rain with shed progress . Cheers .

Wish I knew how you work out the appropriate lathe speed, with varying diameters to get the right speed for the cutting tool, and then how you know what feed rate? I’d have a calculator, engineering handbook and web sites pulled up trying to work that out for every cut. 😂
@jonsworkshop3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian, probably going to steal Max's thunder here, in short, you don't. Especially on this job where you have a mix of materials (weld & prime). It's all an approximation on a centre lathe, every next cut would be different if you were following the book speeds. Experience comes in and you just pick the closest ranges that get you in the ball park. Most of this is driven by your senses, looking for good swarf control (if possible, not always), no vibration, good metal removal rates, good surface finish etc. I did a workshop tips video #1 recently that covers this in a bit more detail if it useful to you. Pi, is your enemy on a lathe. Cheers, Jon
@ianmoone23593 жыл бұрын
@@jonsworkshop Thanks Jon, much appreciated. On my wood lathe that’s exactly how I fly, by the seat of my pants, and sped it up or slow it down depending on the results I’m getting. Working in metal is totally foreign to me & im learning as I go. Dead keen to buy my first lathe, which is one reason I watch all of Max’s videos. I’ve even been fortunate enough to visit his shop as we live pretty close and he’s done a project for me before today. But his knowledge & skill scares me, because it makes me acutely aware just how much I don’t know. I’ve been holding off buying this lathe at least 12 months now. Bought a boxed set of Mitutoyo Outside Micrometer gauges & calibration rods, mag base runout dial caliper etc - ready for when I pluck up the courage to pull the trigger and shell out the cash. One holdup has been lack of availability - like everything in this crazy Covid world, they have to come from China on a ship & the web site says “out of stock, back in stock soon” so even if I wanted it now I wouldn’t be getting it. One day it will be mine & I’ll jump in boots and all at the deep end, but I think Max has forgotten more than I will ever know about this topic. At 62 - I’ve left my run a little late to become an expert in this field. By the time I’m any good I’ll be dead. 😜😂😂
@swanvalleymachineshop3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian , Like Jon said ! I think the only time i had to use feeds & speeds was at trade school ! In job shop type work , they are irrelevant for most work due to the shapes & set up's of a lot of jobs .

Max as the original looks like cast aluminium, Is the difference in weight going to be an issue? 👍🏴
@swanvalleymachineshop3 жыл бұрын
The original is die cast crap . There will be a slight difference but i will be trying to keep it to a minimum . I will do a weight comparison at the end . Cheers .
