Hey Rich. Well my buddy made the new bushing for the lead screw direction gear box. I will show that in the next video I make on it. Had a coworker pass away and another friend pass so have not had a lot of time. Also been putting a new sacrificial top on my cnc router to make some yard art, sign and other things that pay a little money. Think I will do some video on that as well if anyone is interested. Just hope no one thinks I forgot about them. It has been close to 90 degrees the last week and a half so my shop is miserable. Sure am glad fall is here! (A little sarcasm there) :-) Joe

So glad to hear that Glenn, I forgot, you were on the front lines down there. It skirted just east of me but caught the west eyewall...thank goodness I caught the "good side" of the storm. I had some damage around here, not severe...I was lucky....glad you were too

Hello there Richard Another great video with some accomplished Lathe work, which we always enjoy watching and learning from. See Mr Bozo also makes a visit (hopefully, now and then) to Your shop as well. Takes a man to admit that. No problemo. Just some clarification on Your first 28 TPI Reverse mode Thread Cutting. We have a Metric Lead Screw and cut all our Threads with the Half Nut fully engaged, till termination. Wonder how we would be able to cope with Your method of reverse cutting when we have to get exactly to the start position each time. Any suggestions on overcoming that hurdle, please. Your finished Adaptor looks like the one on the right. ATB aRM
@MakinSumthinFromNuthin
@MakinSumthinFromNuthin 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks aRM, I used a carriage stop to bring the threading tool back to the exact same location for each pass.....I suppose you could try it and see how it works...if at all. Its the only way I know how to thread to a shoulder. I couldnt imagine threading with the 1/2 nut engaged the entire time unless I had a clutch to stop the lathe quickly. Your guess was correct! 😊
@armdaMan
@armdaMan 6 жыл бұрын
Now that U mention it, we do have a Foot Brake which we use for our Threading Stops. Reckon we could give that a go and practise some to get properly acquainted with both our machine and the sequence of ops. Thanks for the response ATB aRM

Those inserts worked lovely on the aluminium, anything I've tried that's not HSS makes a dogs dinner of the stuff lol When you removed the piece to cut it, (what I would've done too, less kerf) you could have put a pencil in your tailstock and brought it into the piece to catch it from falling off :)

Try to make a lathe on the lathe. :D PS: It's unclear how you bozo'd the thread. It screwed on fine. And you just gave it a chamfer. Was it because you engaged it manually, thus making the spiral start in different places? Something like a weird double helix? Too thin teeth?
@MakinSumthinFromNuthin
@MakinSumthinFromNuthin 6 жыл бұрын
It screwed on great until I (fill in the blank) 😖
@dimitar4y
@dimitar4y 6 жыл бұрын
Did you turn it the wrong way and roll-over the thread? I'm really not sure what you did. It just looks like a normal chamfer. Maybe the video doesn't show it as well ?
@TomokosEnterprize

Tricky little part to keep fully in line. May I ask why the reverse threading on the large end? I have always done all my threading in the normal field ? I spoke too soon. All the lathes I have worked with have a bolt on chuck,LOL.I do really like that lathe as it has so many good features. You should be teaching in a school bud. Nicely done throughout the process.All done and I am sure he will be damned happy with the results. Nice job bud ! Looks like machinist blue is finished eh and my guess is yours is the piece on the right due to the polishing you took care to apply.
@MakinSumthinFromNuthin
@MakinSumthinFromNuthin 6 жыл бұрын
I couldnt machine the thread to the shoulder threading "towards" the headstock, his sample did not have a thread relief on the 28 TPI side so did what I had to. The aluminum didnt put any stress on the chuck with that fine thread so I was OK there. I slammed the chuck on pretty hard before the job started. Thanks for the kind words....and yes I like the Lathe! :-)
