Here is Part 2 of the piston redishing video, this one is a bit machine heavy, enjoy!

Thanks for the video. The product looks like something new from the factory. I would like to get your advice on the following. I have a 5-cylinder Audi engine that needs new pistons. The cylinder head, however, is already skimmed past the minimum thickness. The stock compression ratio for the engine is already at 9.7:1. Manufacturer requirements specifies that the damaged cylinder be discarded and replaced with a new one when need be. According to the manufacturing new cylinder heads are already at the minimum thickness and no skimming is allowed. New cylinder heads has been discontinued and I must work with what I have. The over skimming of the cylinder head resulted in too much compression which in turn caused severe engine knock which in the end caused my engine to fail. Your dishing of pistons seems to be the solution to prevent compression from getting too high and causing knocking. This is something that the 5-cyliner engines is known for doing even in standard form. Your feedback will be appreciated.

It’s common practice to open out piston dishes to set compression where it needs to be. However, there are limits, leaving the piston too thin after machining will cause failure in service

Thanks AC, i really enjoy your videos, especially the machining ones. Will you be doing a series on the A series gearbox? It would be really great to see how to rebuild a Mini gearbox properly including case machining and inspection for wear.

Only if I get a gearbox to work on.

Great content Ade, just wondering if Omega pistons have a similar profile and can be machined to similar depths?

Depends in the piston, you will need to measure the crown thickness and work it out from there.

Wow will that offset amount effect the cut of piston ? Or has it been done on purpose
