+Sanket Khodankar Microsoft had only recently just helped to bail out Apple with a large purchase of non-voting shares. Part of the deal was to bundle IE as the default browser on Macs. So in a way i'm guessing Steve didn't really believe IE was great, but he felt he had to say it was.

16:02 : When I was a kid I worked at my school district's IT group. Among the older high schoolers and adult employees, I was the only one excited about the prospect of the Universal Serial Bus. The others thought it was ridiculous to connect your speakers and a hard drive to the same port you would use for mouse and keyboard. Ports should be specialized, they said. You're wasting money plugging a low end device like a keyboard and mouse into an expensive port. It won't catch on. But I was right, USB took over the world. It's in your car, your TV, and the armrest of your plane seat. And now it carries video, sound, power, and data. Everything.

Most IT people are freakin dinosaurs, and want to use whatever keeps them from having to learn something new, or stretch out.In education IT people keep their people 5-7 years behind. I think they are going to be extinct in 5-10 years, at least the way we think of them now.

So much for sticking to four core products. He's change his mind every year. Anyway, it worked.
@cawheeler27
@cawheeler27 9 жыл бұрын
They still stick to that generally. Macbook Air, Macbook Pro, iMac, Mac Pro, though they did throw in the mac mini as a low cost entry level Mac. This was back when they only did computers, and still makes a lot of sense for their computer products. But it's smart to branch out into new product categories. If Apple had stayed focused only on the Mac, they would be a much smaller, less valuable company. They still carry this simple strategy over to the iPhone and iPad as well, you don't see 3 dozen different models like you do with Samsung, Asus, LG, and Motorola.
@anthonykehoe1773
@anthonykehoe1773 9 жыл бұрын
Jobs never established the four product grid as a lasting model, but just one that helped the company focus after all the useless projects were cut when he came back.

IE was a piece of shit but Netscape wasn’t much better. Both browser was born in the early days of the internet when things weren’t standardized. And had a lot of baggage to keep. Chrome, safari and Firefox was better because of hindsight.
