@Ryan Nelson I literally couldn't finish the video how irritating it is, and I was very interested in the recipe and the visual representation is good, but the voice is a big problem. This is public, for everyone to see, so it's very important to be done well. Especially it sounds very unnatural.

I began teaching myself to cook at the tender age of 8 years; my mother - a great and locally renowned cook herself - strongly objected as it was “not appropriate for a man to cook”. I completely disregarded her admonishment and have loved cooking all my life. I am now 74 years old and, like my mother, am renowned among my friends and family as being a wonderful cook. In every one of your videos I hear the words of a fellow soulmate who loves food, and most tellingly loves to share his favorite tasty treats with the people he loves! Thank you, Chef John.

Out of all the years I've watched KZfaq and all the years I've followed your videos, this is my first time commenting on any video. I just had to say that this almost exact recipe has been in my brain for years. I love both a Monte Cristo and a croque madame but any time I see either of these in a restaurant I think to my self I wish could add an egg to this or I wish this was fench toast. this combines my two favourite sandwiches. While this is fairly simply I just never thought to try it myself. Thank you for being awesome. Now I'm hungry

1 minute and 10 seconds in a large pot of salted water that is just simmering, do not boil and no need to stir. Drop the eggs in and either put them into ice water to stop cooking and reheat them by placing them back into the hot water for a couple of seconds or serve straight away :)

Did you make it? How was your poached egg? I've never had a poached egg, they do look good though. I'm a lazy frugal cook and usually have a frying pan on the stove ready to fry something, so I just over easy my eggs, ALWAYS SOFT. I can't eat hard yolks, they're useless.

I don't know, is Chef John still actively on the line or is this his career now? He obviously is classically trained and I'm sure spent decades in the business but I have to imagine he's a little rusty and doesn't quite have his finger on the pulse of current food trends. Bobby Flay is used to high pressure cook-offs so while I bet John would give him a run for his money, and I don't care much for Bobby as it is, it would be a close one. Either way, I'd rather watch a show with Chef John over Bobby Flay any day...hopefully Amazon or Netflix is watching how popular these youtube cooking channels are. Would love to see some Babish/Chef John mash-ups or something like that!

Huh, I did this a couple of times, too, but in a bit different way. I prefer soaking the bread first, then pan-frying both pieces on the one side, flipping it over, laying the cheese (and ham, too) on one piece. I then proceed to lay another piece of bread on top of the stuffing, and fry a bit more, maybe flipping occasionally. That way bread gets that delicious French toast feeling on both sides, and the stuffing warms up faster (since it touches the freshly fried sides).

This going to be a very random comment.. But, here it goes: I'm 32 years old, but my father passed away when I was only 17. He and I we're best friends. I still miss him very very much, although it's been so long. This channel popped up in my recommended. The sandwich looked good so I figured I'd check it out. To my surprise- the way u speak, and even your little puns, remind me so much of my dad. It really brought a smile to my face. I have a 13 year old son who was born only a week after i lost my father. (and he is my dad's carbon copy) I'm sure my son will love this sandwich just as much as I'm sure Dad would have.☺ can't wait to have him try it. Thank u for sharing your creation and personality. Definitely subscribing.

I had to repeat the part where he said what cheese he used. Tagani??? What?? I LOVE this channel but the roller coaster tone is a bit too gimmicky and if anything hinders us from truly getting what he said. Shame because his recipes are always so interesting.

Just made one of these tonight (although not nearly as well made as yours haha) but WOW it tastes fantastic. I opted to use Swiss chiss instead and fried my egg, and it was heavenly. Did accidentally have my heat too high when I was making the toast but it still turned out really delicious
