My girlfriend, knowing I was a huge Spider-Man fan, bought tickets to go see it as a birthday gift for me. She didn't know how little I wanted to see the movie so when she told me I had to do my best to be excited about it. I went in going to enjoy myself either way even in the mindset of enjoying something so bad it's kinda funny sort of way. After the movie was over she even admitted it wasn't good but we didn't mind since it was time spent together.

That’s nice. It shouldn’t be this hard though to make this stuff just at least moderately okay. They have these massive worlds and tons of characters and other stories to borrow from even and other ideas. There’s fan fiction that is a lot better and even the stuff with flaws has cooler ideas to explore. It feels like they don’t want to or can’t make quality stuff so they make references to stuff that was good and pretend like that makes them part of that and then put a woman or something in it to act like that fake activism based on nonsense fills in for quality. That way if you don’t like it or criticize it they can just dismiss you as being sexist or bad in some way. That’s a terrible practice. It’s like making a terrible restaurant but getting all female staff so that if anyone hates on it you can be like ‘oh what you don’t think women can run a restaurant.’ It’s just shut down all the very legitimate criticism with baseless personal attacks over and over while they then actually do legitimately sexist things like attack guys and try to make them look as bad as possible in Star Wars and Wonder Woman and others. Like seriously you’re trying to make guys look stupid and like creeps when you’re the ones writing movies where a woman sleeps with a guy possessed by her boyfriend? And you think regular guys are creepy? And then in little mermaid he’s possibly enchanted by the siren song thing so even there if you switched it they’d say ‘oh he’s violating her right to refuse,’ Or whatever. Same way they were so upset the prince gives Snow White a peck on the mouth as if he was making out with her. It’s like so what he lets her sleep forever I mean the whole thing is the kiss of true love saves her. Also some Disney older dude was saying how the prince was just a reward for sleeping beauty and it annoyed me and cheapened the relationship I felt. He wasn’t like some lifeless object, they were supposed to have a bond they couldn’t show as much because the prince was a challenge to animate they said. But he was totally trying to be all pro women in front of this chick also being interviewed and it’s just gross to try to rewrite what Disney and his team put tremendous work and risk into and pretend it’s something it isn’t. And I’m not sure how she earned him given the Prince and the seven dwarves are the ones who destroy the evil. She pretty much sings to birds and cooks. And her goodness I guess inspires people and so on. Also she was I think already royalty and just treated poorly hence why she wore rags, and regardless of that status she was still the most beautiful woman in the land so she had a solid chance with the Prince anyway so I don’t know why she’d have to earn him. That’s all really a tangent but the point is you can’t just rewrite stuff to serve a narrative when you weren’t the one to work to create the thing and you aren’t even a true fan who’s followed it. And you can’t then shove narratives and diversity hires in and act like that fills in for quality when you’re just tanking the value of the brand. You unfortunately have to check nowadays before going in and most films are just doing this same thing now. It’s like a severe disrespect of the audience.

9:40, there actually was a Spider-Man television cartoon where Madame Webb was a character who was a mentor figure to Spider-Man. I don’t remember it in detail but (if memory serves) I liked Madam Webb in it
@ripleyjlawman.3162
@ripleyjlawman.3162 2 ай бұрын
Yeah, that’s comic-book accurate Cassandra Webb, (the original Madame Web an elderly disabled women,) the movie wanted to have Madame Web but also wanted to cast Dakota Johnson, so they turned Julia Carpenter Madame Web number 2 and Cassandra MW number 1 into a single composite character and called this hodge-podge of physical traits plus personality based character traits Cassandra Webb, (to try to sell it more she gets paralysed near the end of the movie.) Sydney’s character Julia is indeed a future Spider-Woman, she was the second Spider-Woman from the mainline Marvel continuity otherwise known as Earth 616, taking over the mantle from her predecessor Jessica Drew, the pair both deriving their powers from Spiders but under different circumstances to each other and to Peter, and besides all three being Spider-themed vigilantes Julia and Jessica were otherwise largely speaking unconnected to Peter and his mess. Mattie Franklin was the Third Spider-Woman, though originally she was just a somewhat obsessed super-fan with a crush, (she was a teenage girl and Peter/Spider-Man by that point was post college so at least 23-27.) Mattie was the adopted daughter and niece-in law of J Jonah Jameson Jr, (she was the daughter of his deceased second wife Marla Madison’s younger sister Bernice who like her sister is also dead,) now you’re probably wondering why I keep referring to Mattie in the past tense, well she and Cassandra were murdered by the Kravinoffs in the comic book storyline that turned Julia into the second Madame Web, (and as far as I’m aware she got resurrected and ultimately perma-killed in 2017.) Aña or Anya Corazon is Spider-Girl.

I think if Sony had tried a little harder, the setup for this movie could have resulted in something interesting: Imagine, for example, a version of this movie where Ezekiel's attempts to kill the future Spider-Women both results in them both becoming Spider-Women in the movie and having a reason to fight him. The film ends with a big climactic showdown where the Spider-Women defeat Ezekiel and tear down everything he's built (which, in my version of the movie, would actually be explained so we understand what he's afraid of losing). It's a classic "villain causing their own doom due to a self-fulfilling prophecy" ending. There you go, Sony. I just massively improved your Madame Web movie. I'm available for hire.

13:48 I refused to pay for this movie too. 😏 So anyway, having seen it, she wasn't actually wanted, since she hadn't been identified beyond a basic physical description (white female, eatly 30s, long brown hair). It's almost like they basically wanted to imply she had these hurdles to overcome that didn't even exist, so they wouldn't have to actually do any complicated "writing" to explain how she accomplished anything, like getting to the Amazon. (And btw, the Miss Leading and Amazon Prime jokes were absolutely friggin chef's kiss! 🤣🤣🤣) Even the bad guy kept ignoring her for most of the movie, "she's not important, only those girls matter", which was so stupid because with the tracking tech he was using, he could have easily found out who she was and made it public, severely restricting her ability to move freely anywhere without being identified, let alone flying to the Amazon.

A few random thoughts: Ezekiel Sims may basically be evil Spider-Man, but he must not have a spider sense, or he would have killed every one of his targets in around two minutes. So... the woman who can see the future, but whom people don't believe, is named Cassandra? I'm not sure if that's brilliant or idiotic. Is it wrong of me to hope that Ezekiel's out-of-synch voice / mouth movements is really a little-known spider power? I'd like to see a Spider-Verse movie where a whole lot of Peter Parkers, Miguel O'Haras, Miles Moraleses and Gwen Stacies are all doing that to freak out everyone else; it would be like a Shaw-Brothers, kung-fu movie.

Tahar (Ezekiel) is a good actor, and Sony chose to mishandle his time and talent with the world’s most blatant ADR. But at least he didn’t get Segaled which is to say having terrible impressionists dub over lines that were either too muffled when delivered by Segal or changed to suit story rewrites, as seen in several of Segal’s straight to DVD schlock from the 2000’s, like the one where he fights alien invaders hiding in human bodies in Paris, France which had pick-up shots filmed to change it to being about terrorists and mobsters drugging the water supply of Paris turning Parisians into drugged-up killers with stupid sideways folding eyelids.

Yes and of course no one will be upset with them flirting with the younger guys. If you did that the other way around it would be the only thing people talked about, the male actors would have to like disavow their involvement and the writers would have to apologize on X which of course would do nothing and the mob would come after them more. It does sound like one of the better female lead things. But they can’t all be the masterpieces that Indiana Jones 5 was, or The Marvels, or the the Disney Star Wars stuff, or the female terminator movie where the eliminate John Connor like they did to Luke, or the new kung fu panda where they’re replacing Po with a not as good female, or the new ratchet and clank, any of the other many things where they have a not as good female copy of a guy character and the movie sucks but you can’t say that or else you’re just an incel or you’re racist or sexist or whatever other term they use to excuse their terrible bigoted towards guys particularly white guys film making. Actually, i saw it, but in german. So the ridicilous english dub wasn't what i experienced. I had some fun, but it wasn't a good movie. Too much potential unused, to stiff acting, don't making those ladies Spider-Women during the movie was maybe the biggest mistake. I didn't think they were too bad. I really hope, when MARVEL STUDIOS makes his Multiverse Avengers Movies, they give them a chance, but i don't think they will. Which makes me a bit sad. So, my point is, the potential is there, but Sony doesn't know a f*ck how to use it. And thats weird, since their animated Spider-Verse Movies actually are great movies. But well, i doesn't regret paying the 13 Euros for seeing the movie, had some laughers, some *um....* moments(?) and a did eat something very delicious in Frankfurt afterward, with a friend. 16:09, I actually don’t think that’s entirely fair. Both she and Sims get extremely clouded and ambiguous visions throughout the movie so it’s possible all she foresaw was Ben getting heavily involved in Peter’s life but not actually the reason for it.

Maybe, but WE know the reason for it, and she didn't make it sound like "I get the vague impression that...", so to the audience it comes across pretty cold-blooded, especially when you consider that she likely thinks Peter's life HAS to go that way in order to become the best Spider-Man he can be.

@@JakkFrost1 We know the reason for it so it seems quite dark to us but we don’t see her actual vision. For all we know, she saw visions of Uncle Ben being heavily involved in Peter’s life but didn’t get the reason why

@@matityaloran9157 sure, it's possible, but then the writer's should have had her say that. As it is, they just wanted to make what they thought was a clever reference to Spider-Man, but they failed to realize what the obvious inference was that audiences would make.

@@matityaloran9157 also, I just remembered, her powers had supposedly been fully unlocked by that point, so she wasn't experiencing any more ambiguity about her visions of the future.
