In this video we will be talking about and answering this question “Who do I pick” and things to consider when choosing a character for a brand new game. Never pick a character from tier lists. Pros often have different tier lists anyways. Also, people see these lists and make these characters more common, so most people already know how to play against it. Pick play style and what you like. Its easier to enjoy based off of passion. Play the trials. Play everyone's trials.

I think when ur at the lvl where tier lists actually matter you're probably good enough at the game to know who the good characters are and which ones aren't without needing a tier list anyway.

I chose lui Kang bc that’s who I picked in mk11 (my first mk game) and he’s my favorite lore wise and character wise. I also learned I like to play balanced characters

I've always been a big Kenshi fan and I think looks sick in this game. His combos, his looks, his abilities, everything looks great about him. But i'm rather mediocre when it comes to mechanical skill in fighting games so i'm actually scared trying to learn him because he seems to be one of the hardest characters in the game to play.

Well usually puppet characters are actually hard in general but also the most rewarding characters to use and usually tend to be the highest in all kinds of tier list,examples include like carl clover from BlazBlue,you have to use 2 characters at once,now 3 in mk1 with the kameo system,it's overwhelming but practice and you will become a master at it,usually most fighting games have easier versions of puppet character like relius from also BlazBlue or zato from guilty gear being easier than bedman or even all the JoJo characters in heritage of the future JoJo game,I recommend to try the old JoJo fighting game during stardust crusaders as the whole basic mechanic of the game is to use 2 characters at once but if you are good at that game,all puppet character archetype becomes easier in other fighting games

i chose johnny and smoke because i’ve always loved rushdown/fast characters in fighting games. also my older brother played johnny in mk11 so i fell in love with him prior to the game’s release

This was an incredible tutorial. I've played almost all of these games since the first one and I still feel like I learned quite a lot here, especially in being able to take "what I enjoy doing in the game" (juggling into air combos being a big one for me, and I've found that I tend to prioritize characters who can easily launch their opponents if given a hit-confirm, such as Nitara, Scorpion, or Sindel) and turn that into actual vocabulary knowledge ("rushdown," "grapple," etc.). Also there's something really relaxing about the way you slowly and clearly pronounce each character's name when listing which characters belong in which archetypes. On another note, I found it funny that all of the zoners are Edenians in the classical timeline (Rain, Kitana, Sindel) except for Mileena.

I play Reiko because I love his kit, his parry, and B4 reminded me alot of my Tekken 7 main Jin, that paired with his medium to long ranged kicks and shuriken to play a spacing / neutral game it felt very good to pick him up. Although lately I've been thinking about switching because he's slow as shit which is what brought me here

My main has always been lui kang I’ve been playing since 9 it’s who I’m comfortable with now back in 9 he only had about 6 or 7 great combos the rest were very mid or difficult to engage the newer ones including this new one it’s like he buffed each time especially now so it works in my favor

My main is Reptile, and I have been a Reptile main since MK9(2011). But this Reptile in MK1 he is easy to pick up. His design is the best and will always be a Reptile main.

I decided to main Smoke. I was a Rain main in MK11 but he changed so much in Mk1, he looked cool bur just not my play style. Smoke on the other hand, is cool af and i love playing him. He’s simple but in-depth and i just love his whole kit… definitely the character that clicked the most with me

I picked Li Mei because she felt really good to play in the story. I usually play the brawler, grappler, or rush down archetypes so I have been playing her pretty aggressive

I've started playing with Sindel since mk11 and she's my main in mk1 as well. The empress is the best option for me! I love my Banshee lady!

I can't wait to get into the game later today and try out the characters. I'm thinking of trying nitara, mileena and smoke and picking my main from who ever I like best, but i think I'll give them all a try before i decide.

@@marcelmichels2925 yeah I will say, she’s hard to learn, her moves are not necessarily hard, but getting her moves put 2gether is hard when going for combos, I’ve bounced back to Sub Zero a few times bc he’s easier for me, so I do understand what you’re saying but I can’t wrap my head around not using her, idk if you played story but this game made her my new favorite character, her story arch, looks, move set etc so if you think you will give her a shot, I think you should, you don’t see a lot of Mileena players online so the more the better 🦾 she’s rated a top 5 character by HoneyBee, no that doesn’t necessarily matter, I’m just pointing that out bc though you don’t see a lot of her, it’s probably bc she’s harder to learn but worth it, I’d say do what I’m doing, keep her offline till you get good with her & just invasion mode with her, go to practice mode & do her character specific tutorial.

i've missed Smoke so much since MK9 and so with noy beeing main roster, was def my 1st choice to main...as a 2nd main, i had to go with reiko because he looks like a roman general tank and even tho in story he was a punching bag he is so badass and i really find him comfortable to play wich for me is surprinsingly as i've always hated grapplers

I am still waiting for Quan Chi, but as the first character, i decided to main Reptile. It was a combination of all reasons. I started with choosing the best looking ones, then threw away the ones, whose play style i didn't like (Li Mei. Looks badass, but i didn't like playing her). Then i dropped out more complicated characters, to not do monkey work while learning the basics (Shang Tsung and Rain). So at the end, i was left with reptile, baraka and scorpion. Then i checked the tier list to not accidentally make my life harder with bottom characters (again, nothing against playing weaker chars, but not as the first main). So i was left with baraka and reptile, but i already started with baraka in mk11, so i settled with reptile

I picked geras because his rework for this game is flawless and his set up/ trap game is almost unmatched. I like his slams and time bends that are not only hard to read but further confuse the opponent while you feel in control

I haven't bought this one yet but usually I like to main one of my fav characters of that game that fits my playstyle the most for that game. I mained: Reptile in MK 2009 (Raiden was my second) Kenshi in MKX (Raiden was my second) Raiden in MK11 (Sub-Zero was my second) These 4 are my 4 fav characters in the MK universe. Noob Saibot was my fav the first time I played a MK game, back in UMK3, so he too has a place in my heart but I don't like to play him on most recent games, I played him back in Deception he was my main with the Noob-Smoke, Raiden was my second, I liked Noob Saibot a lot back in UMK3 because I was a child and he was the most OP and easiest character to use 😅 From what I've been seeing, for this game Kenshi is out of the question because of his Puppet mechanics, I can't play a character like that, so it will be between Reptile, Raiden and Sub-Zero. I don't like a character that juggles too much so of these 3 I'll pick up the character with the less juggles. I guess I will really find my main after buying the game (in a few days) and try the 3 of them. But I am eyeing Sub-Zero in this one, even tho as you can see from past games Raiden was my most used, either as first or second, he was always there, let's see. (Sorry for the long comment tho)

@@jsavage9134 "Juggling is a term used in regards to fighting games to describe the act of striking an airborne foe multiple times." Not to be confused with air combos tho. Juggling is when you keep your opponent in the air while you keep doing combos while you on the ground, in Mortal Kombat it requires a lot of precise timings to to it.

I have question, i want to main two characters but this will deffinitly put me in a bit of disadvantage, because i'm guy that likes have other options then all the time play one character, and its my first Mortal combat i started to play except of my childhood when i had ps 1, 2 and i played then tekken and MK. and as a nostaligc thing i had from my child hood i decided to play Scorpion and Subzero, btw thatnk to you now i know which one to pick first as scorpion will be my first character for easier learning curve. ANd my question is should i focus for 2 weeks on one character and try to amster them out which means i will spend less time in game bc playing one character over and over is boring for me, or should i just learn combos from both and have fun with it. I want to play rankeds etc maybe even try win some local tournaments, but i will do not want sacrifice my fun for this. but losing over and over is no fun either. I'm waiting for some response thank you

I missed my boy Smoke since mk9, so I picked him up again. And I gotta say his playstyle works for me and is fun. I always mained Sub-Zero otherwise, but in this game I feel he suffers a lot gameplay wise... oh and Bi-Han as Sub-Zero is just an a-hole.
