Hey guys 🪽 In this weeks video essay, I discuss the "Marilyn Monroe of Indian Cinema" - Madhubala! 💋
This video essay is in 2 PARTS - this is PART 1 🚨
For much of the late 1940s and 1950s, Madhubala was widely considered to be the most beautiful actress in Hindi cinema.
Despite her popularity, not much was really known by the general public about the elusive Madhubala. In this video, I discuss the book:
I want to live: The Story of Madhubala by Khatija Akbar 📖
This book fills in the gaps regarding Madhubala's life - the topics which I explore in this video - part 1- include: Madhubala as a child actor, Madhubala's pop culture relevance and her work/life balance.
Throughout this video essay, I compare the life of Madhubala to her "Western counterpart" - Marilyn Monroe. There are major similarities between these two women, that I found both interesting & intriguing.

as someone who is intrested in vedic astrology its so interesting that 3 of them had their moon in same nakshatra 'dhanishta' it means bright star its nakshtra of fame but this fame nakshatra also indicates a hard personal life. gia crangi is also example of this nakshatra's effect

Hey! You haven't presented any false information in this video and have actually done remarkable research. Still, I would advise you not to trust everything written in Khatija Akbar's and Mohan Deep's biographies. Even articles written by journalists like Bunny Reuben are inaccurate. There are many inconsistencies, some blatant fabrications, and malicious rumours. Khatija Akbar's book is certainly more accurate than Mohan Deep's, and it does contain opinions of her Madhubala's co-actors, which can be believed. However, other things should be taken with a grain of salt. For instance, it was not Mohan Sinha and not Devika Rani who gave Mumtaz the name 'Madhubala' when she starred in his 1947 film Mere Bhagwan. Madhubala's mother's name is reported to be Ayesha Begum when, in fact, her name was Meher Jahan Begum. Madhubala also never spoke Pashto since her mother was from Delhi and her father had migrated there, too. All of this information has been revealed by Madhubala's niece, Nafisa Ebrahim, who used to be active on Instagram a few years ago. But I realise it's quite difficult to verify the authenticity of information found online, especially since it has been decades since Madhubala passed away. And most of her family is unwilling to talk to the media to clear up misconceptions.
