(TW: this episode references suicide and suicidal thoughts).
Pop Queen, Madison Beer - who sung such epic songs as 'Baby,' 'Reckless' & 'Selfish' and now her new single, 'Showed Me (How I Fell In Love With You) - joins me for the latest episode of my podcast 'Reign with Josh Smith' and gets very honest about her mental health! Listen to the full episode here: hyperurl.co/i4yxt0
Madison Beer has amassed a jaw dropping 4.2 billion streams across her catalogue globally since she was discovered by Justin Beiber at the age of 13, when he posted a clip of her singing Etta James on his Instagram. Shortly afterwards Madison signed a major recording contract but by just 16 year-old she found herself being dropped.
But that never stopped Madison, she used her music to help her and share her own unique voice and story by releasing her own independent music. Her debut EP ‘As She Pleases’ even made history by becoming the first independently released female artist to score a top 30 position in the US Top 40 chart.
Let's get real, it’s bop after bop when it comes to Madison and as she releases her new single, Showed Me (How I Fell In Love With You) she sits down with me to reflect on her remarkable, determined journey.
This episode comes with a trigger warning as there is a discussion of suicide and suicidal thoughts as Madison opens up about her journey with her mental health when she was 19 years old which saw her contemplate taking her own life whilst she was struggling with ‘failure’ and trauma. Now with the help of therapy, and still battling with PTSD, she is able to bravely share her story with us.
Madison also reflects on the sexism that still persists in the music industry and shares some teasers about her much anticipated album. Plot spoiler: it’s going to be a teary listen.
I hope you are just as inspired by Madison’s honesty as I was - it takes real courage to be this honest - and I hope you keep on listening and finding the power to Reign in your own lives. If this episode resonates with you please get in touch (follow me across social media @joshsmithhosts), I love hearing from you. Love, Josh xxx

I was so suicidal too that's the time when her album came out, I was listening to it and it was calming me down in the way that I knew that I'm already dead inside and nothing matters, I can just cry and drown in my own tears. The lyrics were so perfectly fitting I was dying with her and she was dying with me. That album was the hand that was holding mine and didn't let go and that's how I survived. I can't listen to Effortlessly anymore. I am scared to even try. God bless all of us. We deserve the greatest love. Take care everyone. And don't do it.

Me too, I was suicidal around the time her album came out also, and her music made me feel less alone and understood. I made it out the other side, and I’m glad you did too! Emotional bruises is the song I resonated with the most (because I literally had emotional bruises) and when I listen to it now it just reminds me of how I was able to finally make it past that point of my life. Maybe one in the future you’ll be able to listen to effortlessly and feel the same, but if you’re ever ready to of course :)

What she said about women needing to treat each other better so they don't give men the room to treat us badly seamed to have been said with the nicest intentions, but I consider it dangerous. Yes it might have some truth to it, if women were EVEN MORE supportive to each other we would be stronger, BUT.... I CERTAINLY don't think that this is the reason why women are disrespected and not taken seriously. I think it is a quite dangerous thing to say because it unintentionally blames women and our supposed "bad relationship" and our supposed "lack of support" to each other, for the lack of respect we take from society and mostly the lack of respect from men! First of all that is not true and it is ridiculous, it is not the supposed "horrible" behavior that women have with one another the reason why women are still not taken serisouly, that is just a stupid, misogynistic excuse. It gives misogynistoc men (and only misogynistic men think that women are natural enemies) a false and ridiculous alibi to treat us in a degrading manner. And i definitely find it infuriatingly misogynistic to hear a man say to my face "You women are so mean to each other." out of nowhere, especially when men are MUCH worst to women. And I don't think that women have bad relationships with one another or that we can't be friends. Only bad, close minded people think that. Yes we fight sometimes, especially teenagers, but that is ok. That doesn't have ANYTHING To do with the cruelty that men have towards us and it does not excuse that cruelty as well. What I am trying to say is that MEN are the ones who have treated me 100 times worst than women have ever treated me. And I have never seen anyone complain about how men treat each other at work.... Women have the right to fight with each other or be completitive, and I don't think that this is the reason why our human rights are violated. AND I CERTAINLY DON"T THINK THAT A MAN HAS ANY RIGHT TO TELL US HOW WE SHOULD SPEAK TO EACH OTHER! "You shouldn't talk like that to each other because it is degrading." IS IT THE SAME THING WHEN A WOMAN CALLS ANOTHER WOMAN SOMETHING MEAN WITH A MAN CALLING HER THE SAME THING?!!!! WE ARE WOMEN WER HAVE THE RIGHT TO talk a certain way to each other, way more than men do! It is simply not the same thing! I don't act like their mother or tell them how to speak to one another. Or use the supposed "bad behavior" that we exude to each other as an excuse to disrespect them. I find it RIDICULOUS that someone would blame the fact that women are not being taken seriously on the fact that sometimes we make a bad comment on another woman or the fact that sometimes we are jealous, and while men do much worst. Men dehumanize us and rob us from our human rights and our social position. Do they do this because a woman told them that we are "stupid" or a "sl@t"? I mean it is ridiculous. And why did they ven listened? And last but bot least WE DO NOT HAVE BAD RELATIONSHIPS! Women have way deeper and truer bonds with each other, than men have with one another. Men's relationships are mostly based on image, many men are lonely and don't have any real male friends, even if they know them for years and years, especially the ones who talk like that about women, "oh women can't be friends they eat each other." . Saying that women are mean or cruel to each other is just disrespectful and misogynistic. Yes maybe when a beautiful woman walks into a room some girls might be mean, BUT why do some people take that SO serously and WHO THE F@@K MADE WOMEN THIS WAY? It is men and patriarchy who made them compete with each other. SAYING THAT THIS IS OUR NATURE IS IGNORANT AND MISOGYNISTIC. And also most of the time it is not that serious, or as bad as how men treat us. Yes I am sure that there are women out there who have been throught a lot because of the jealousy of other women, but wait till men are jealous of you... what women have done to you will seam like a playground. Trust me. I personally don't have any problem with other women, and I don't even blame them when they are mean to me, especially when men are much worst, because I know that they are this way because of the insecurities (and lack of power) the patriarchal society instilled in them. I am not like that at all, so I don't judge them, because I know how bad they must feel and I don't blame only THEM for being this way. They just rely on men too much. And I don't think that women don't want to see one another succeed, quite the contrally in fact, we love a victorious wman. I personally support other women a lot and I know many women who are also like tha. It is natural. WHAT DO WE HAVE TO FIGHT FOR WITH ONE ANOTHER? I DON"T GET IT, it is simply not true!

Yeah make jealousy of women definitely exists especially when and if they feel emasculated by them. Usually this is with men who don’t feel secure in their own masculinity. Or if a woman isn’t up to par on what his idea of femininity should be. Then he feels like he should bring her down a notch or whatever.

@@qazedc3 Yes exactly like you put it. They think that they have the right to bring her down a notch. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Toxic, a obnoxious people do that. I am just laughing at them now. Because I have worked with myself and I can put THEM in their place in seconds. The way they deserve. Only bullying, arrogance, extreme scorn and disrespect to those people. Then moving on in seconds and being who you truly are in their face and happy while you pretend that they don’t even exist, because they don’t… ❤️ Plus I am going to call the police if they go too far. 😉
