Hi everyone!
Here's part 2 of our reaction to Madonna's Drowned World Tour. If this section were an episode of Friends, it would be called The One Where They Stared at the Video in Shock and Awe. Unbelievable!!

This tour was groundbreaking. There was nothing like this show before or since. Madonna was 43 years old, gave birth in August 2000 and started rehearsals in late March 2001, 7 months after having Rocco. There is Noone like Madonna. The great divas like Whitney, Barbra,Cher, Tina and Diana can't preform at this level. Modern Divas like Britney (she couldn't handle it), Gaga ( she tried but broke a hip and has canceled several tours) and Katy Perry tried but not at Madonna's level. The road warriors like Beyonce, Taylor and Pink have shows heavily influenced by Madonna and as great as they are, they don't come close. And it has to be mentioned again that Madonna was 43 years old!!!

Paradise and Frozen...is just breathtaking. Concerts got more spectacular over the years but back then that was just totally unseen. The whole segment is just Wow...Her singing live and doing all that she is doing...she is so talented. She wrote all those songs too. What an artist, we are so lucky to have her. This tour is not a fan favorite because it misses alot of her classics and focuses mostly on the more recent stuff at the time and its quite rock in the first segment and then dark in later ones, but it is a feast for the eyes and ears imo. Every tour is different and she does the classics that people long for on several later tours so this remains a special one.

It only gets better, this concert is only the beginning of amazing tour performances. Madonna set the bar so high, no one can’t match Madonna’s concerts, there’s a lot of to process, even the most simple performances are a piece of art. No other artist is doing an effort to put on a show, no one can do what Madonna does.

My boyfriend at the time only really knew Madonna from the Sex book (which he hated) and Evita (which he loved) When the DVD of this tour came out, I made him watch it and he was stunned...he didn't necessarily fall in love with her music but he was blown away by the range of artistic styles and every aspect of this multi-layered thought provoking production. The shot in the video of her wiping the blood from her nose and smirking straight into the camera is one the most haunting and powerful images. It definitely sticks with you.

The two of you are definitely my favourite reactors on Madonna’s career. And I now see that the two of you really start to understand why she is so admired by her fans. Not just as a pop singer but the artist, the performer, the creator. And it’s unbelievable how creative she is and what’s she thinks up for her live performances. I really anticipate your reaction videos ! Thank you both for letting us in on your journey. The journey I’ve been on since 1984 !

Madonna Is, in every sense of the word a "true artist " Her representation, writing, videos etc are all to promote this in the best form. She never receives the credit from "true critics" to affirm this. As always, your support, acknowledgement and enjoyment is a thrill. Please check out Tears of a Clown stage shows she did, 2 I think. Very individual & different, and not what you may think. They were promoting American Life era & are awesome. Definitely "art" thanks as always, I live my Madonna appreciation through you & love it ❤

It hit me that-in this segment she is portraying through song and dance women’s historical experience of being dominated, abused, treated as sexual objects/property by the male/patriarchal society and of women’s long struggle for rights with the rise of feminist empowerment ideology like the women’s liberation movement, the more recent MeToo movement. The Japanese animated segment (anime) where a female character is sexually assaulted is perhaps a reminder that Madonna herself experienced something akin in her early years in NYC. She of course, has suffered, been psychologically pummeled from the severe backlash, and even threats from entrenched misogynist, sexist, bigoted segments of society for her liberating artistry, outspoken and courageous advocacy for women empowerment, for the rights of those marginalized in society. It’s cathartic specially for Madonna with the outrage she’s likely felt when she finally leads other female dancers in that martial arts choreo fighting off men, then symbolically she eventually “kills” the macho Samurai dancer who earlier nearly slashed her head off; then with images of her battered and bruised, she picks up a rifle to shoot down the last male dancer standing in her way. It’s hard not to empathize with her and her messaging. She gives the defiant challenge to her detractors with that gesture “Come on, bring it on!”-she’s not backing down in this fight. This made me cheer-Yes!!..you go Girl!! ❤the respect, insight and fascination you showed in reacting to this segment.😊

Didn’t expect the second part coming that fast! This entire section is perfect in all aspects. I’d like to remark how after fighting and beating her relationship, she ended up not only shooting the dancer guy, but also what I think he represents: toxic masculitiy and a patriarchal figure that allows men treat women like that. As you ladies say….. mind blowing! Love your reaction! ❤️

You two nail it again. Yes, this tour is much more intense, dark and theatrical. I remember being there and just so drawn in to all that was happening around me. So much is going on, it's nearly impossible to catch everything. That's why watching the concert back on film, really helps you discover things you missed when being there. And your right, this is the first tour she's utilized the big screen. She was one of very few artists who were using screens in such a manner. Before her U2, was known mostly for doing so as far back in the early 90's with the Zoo TV tour. Madonna made it more acceptable among pop artists. And get ready for the show to take you in another direction. Just make sure you wear your Cowgirl gear for this next act. LOL! Love your reaction. Thank you!!!

I say the song "Mer Girl" ("I ran and I ran, I was looking for me...") is definitely about the eternal journey of a soul after leaving its body. We can never fully understand the meaning of life, why we and the universe even exist at all in the first place. The soul will always wonder and wander. ("I'm still running away" being the final line). This song closes the Ray of Light album.

@@OurAnxiousReactionsBy mentioning "the earth", "leaves", "ants", "black sky" among others - Madonna stresses the fact that we humans are essentially part of nature and not separate from it. She wasn’t supposed to remove her wig originally. But she had a wardrobe malfunction in London where her wig literally flew off her head during those spins in Sky Fits Heaven. Although she was mad, the audience enjoyed seeing her lose the wig, so it was incorporated into the routine. This segment is all about her fighting her inner demons and winning in the end. Yes, luv the symbolism here where after “fighting off the men”, bruised and battered but still standing, she sang “I ran to the forest..”…then she decided to stop and stand her ground, took off her wig (metaphor for her public persona/façade as a celeb) and she faced the last male dancer standing in her way-and she decided-I’m done with all this martial arts-picks up a rifle and shoots him! What an exclamation point! Just brilliant theatrics.

The Japanese section is possibly the most emotional thing Madonna has ever done on stage. I think the man who dances to the Open Your Heart clip and who she shoots is the spirit of Male violence towards women. People always seem to think it's much better now, but I think it just changed from traditional to post-truth. With the politicisation of reality, women are now not even allowed to define themselves, their bodies or their spaces, anymore.

I love that despite the obvious visual connection (the Japanese theme), she did not perform "Nothing Really Matters" - because if she did, it would have been very predictable and lazy, but more importantly the song isn't fit for the segment, musically and story-wise. Instead, on this tour we did get "Lo Que Siente La Mujer", the Spanish version of "What It Feels Like for a Girl" and even more random, a brief instrumental version of "Open Your Heart". Some of her choices sound very, very bizarre on paper, but in reality they worked perfectly.

You both took note of the darker more sinister and violent themes in this second act and overall tone of the tour. Consider, 15 days later after that concert, the September 11th attacks took place. I recall being completely perplexed at what I had experienced after watching the live HBO broadcast of the Drowned World Tour, exactly like you both were here. It seems voilent times do have their violent themed omens. At 11:09 Brenda, you began to understand it was the melody notes from Open Your Heart. Your face...the surprise!😂👍

Wow. I was nervous to really revisit the anime “What it feels like for a girl” interlude, especially with you two nice ladies, because of the violent and sexual content that I’ve always had a hard time with (and after being a bit shellshocked when I saw it live and certainly not expecting that in the middle of a pop concert). But you guys did such a great job of contextualizing and finding the message of what it was all presenting. I don’t know that I need to see that segment anymore, but it was so great hearing you guys walk through how you felt about it. I’ve been impressed throughout your whole journey and wish everyone else “got it” like you two have (and like us fans have known for years!).

This Second act is the best live perfomance since the second act from Blond Ambition for me, Mer Girl is the non single song that I will always go back to and Paradise is my favorite Madonna´s song, What it feels like for a Girl comes as a full closure for this part of the show going from classical Japanese imagery to more modern representations, this hole act hits so hard and yet so tender.

I respect your view, but you’re in the middle of this channel’s chronological, exclusive deep dive journey into Madonna’s amazing 40-year music career and artistry-this channel has a long way to go in this journey-they’re into year 2001 Drowned World Tour, her 5th tour. They have 6 more world tours to react to, all the way to her 2019/20 Madame X. And most of us who subscribed here are looking forward to the rest of this journey. You may want to find another channel that currently covers Janet Jackson.

Great Reaction. When I saw this tour there really wasn’t the spoiler of the internet. We were seeing it for the first time. It was spectacular and so much to take in but it flowed and not knowing where it was leading was very exciting to what was next. Feeling assured that the darkness would lead to light. And when the light comes a sense of relief and faith that you made it and the joy that gave was so spectacular. It gave you so much faith in yourself. Everyone was able to get there own personal journey from beginning to end. 💜💜
