Honestly I would adore Madonna to embrace her deeper vocal range a lot more again....she hints at it on songs... but here just feels so organic and lots of fun... my favourite LAV performance of hers alongside her Confessions Tour version.

A nice hommage with one of her big hits to a woman,Marlene... a woman role who had much more influence over Madonna than Marilyna as some people like to think

Marlene and Madonna are my queens. I wouldn't have known about Marlene if if wasn't for Madonna's art (that's because of my age). Madonna LOVED/S Marlene.. I wished for both of their sakes they could've met.

Ui loved them both & i read a book about marlene which her friend wrote and he said that once in the 80s she watched madonna’s concert on tv and said that she was a great performer

1- she was 35 here, nowhere near the normal “grandmother” age (she’s still not a grandmother today) 2- the song is about how her lover makes her feel like she’s losing her virginity all over again.

Marlene couldn’t stand Madonna. That’s the irony. I personally love both women but Marlene reserved not a shred of sympathy for this woman. She said about Madonna “I played vulgar. Madonna IS vulgar”. She sent her daughter a photo of Madonna with “Puh-Leeze!!” Written across Madonna’s forehead. That’s from the daughter herself. When the French president had Madonna as a guest for an HIV fundraiser, it threw Marlene into a rage.

If Marlene wasn't so influential, she wouldn't have people like Madonna trying to imitate her. Madonna would like to be groundbreaking too, but it was Marlene who in 1929 in "The blue angel" already played a naughty cabaret singer or in 1930 in "Morocco" kissed another woman wearing a suit. Sorry.

Gene Kelly recommended Madonna do this performance. He adored M and said Madonna is the only woman who can do it. Marlene herself said Madonna is vulgar, BUT, that she's a true performer with real star quality.
