Hey Joe. This review sold me on the MAGs a few months ago, so thanks for that. I ended up getting medium pronate and supinate and narrow supinate. I love them but I’m itching to try a neutral. Do you see neutral as worth getting to add variety to my pulldowns and rows? Maybe landmine rows too. I’m leaning toward close grip neutral over medium since I would have two of each length and if I ever wanted a medium neutral I can grab a knockoff from OfferUp or something since those knockoffs only come in neutral grips for the medium sizes. I also saw you saying on Reddit that you don’t see much feedback on the neutral grips, so thought I’d ask you directly. Also, the wide grip is more supinated than neutral right?
@GrayMatterLifting
@GrayMatterLifting 2 жыл бұрын
Nice! Glad I could help. I love mine. For the close grip, I haven't heard many people say great things about anything but the supinated. I don't own them, so can't comment, but the close supinate seems to be fire (I agree), and the neutral and pronated are just, meh. The mediums, all 3, are great from what I hear. So if you were snagging a neutral, I'd go medium. Your thought process on the knock offs is probably pretty on point though. The Wide is pronated.

I like it for a very specific lat pulldown replacement. Strict, upright body, vertical pull. I've tried it for seated rows and it sucks. I've got an article coming out very soon touching on that. I think the Wide is the least used by both me and my wife. The close supinate grip my wife uses regularly, and I love the mediums. If you are smaller, snag the closes. If you are bigger, snag the mediums. The supinated mediums is my favorite,and I think it's the best bang for your buck if you are only getting one. Second would be close supinated, then third is med pronate... If I ever get more wall space, I'll snag the rest just because.

I'm consider getting the same 4 you did, what do you think about this Narrow supinated and Medium supinated for max lat development on pull downs (med sup for low rows too) Wide for traps, rhomboids, teres major and minor on pull downs (does the wide work the lats nearly as good as the close supinated?) Which muscles does the Medium pronated work better/differently than the other 3?
@GrayMatterLifting
@GrayMatterLifting 4 жыл бұрын
I don't feel the wide in the lats as much, but definitely in the rest of the upper back, I think mostly due to the pronated handle, but also the width itself. The Supinate handles seem to hit the lats the hardest, I believe because the lats are internal rotators, so you are essentially putting them in the ideal spot to get hammered. I haven't used the neutrals yet, so no comments there.

@GrayMatterLifting

If you wanted three I'd take the medium Supinated, medium pronated, and close Supinated... If you wanted only two... I'd probably take both mediums. The close Supinated in my opinion is only good for pulldowns, mostly useless for seated rows. Where as the mediums work for both.

@@GrayMatterLifting thanks for the reply! Hey super off topic but you seem super knowledgeable. I am looking for specialty bars such as the trap bar, foot ball bar, and ssb. I was looking at the kabuki line. Thinking about going with them. They are really expensive and the wait time is super long. Ive read that the benefits to their football bar and trap bar is the balance they have opposed to competitors is way better. And their ssb allows for various angle settings. Any thoughts? Any recommendations for better options? Thanks!

@@MrJkillahoe415 if you have Instagram, I had a pretty solid discussion with a ton of people on my page just last week about SSBs. Might be worth checking out. The general consensus, Kabuki's bar offers a LOT of options, but it's not necessarily the best SSB. So if you want/need that variation option, go for it. Otherwise, there are cheaper better options for the main purpose. Their trap bar seems to be solidly reviewed, same with the Kadilac bar. I think both of those come down to your personal preference. Is getting a bar that is slightly better on paper, worth an extra $300 and up to 6 months of wait time, compared to getting them from other reputable companies. For me, probably not. But for some, yeah definitely. I'd also toss in, if you live near them in the Pacific Northwest, shipping gets dropped dramatically and prices are improved. Makes the decision easier. If you aren't, get ready to eat a large budget for the gym on a few bars you might touch a couple of times a month.

@@MrJkillahoe415 Kabuki makes really good stuff. I just think they oversell it a bit, like if you don't own their stuff, everything else is straight shit. On paper everything they claim makes sense... When actual lifters handle their stuff, it changes a bit. I haven't heard anyone say their stuff sucks, but I've seen a lot of people question the true superiority of their equipment compared to much more economical offerings from other places. Similar idea with Prime Fitness and a few others. Not sure the extreme price tag pans out for the average person in terms of ROI.

Who the hell uses straps when doing cable work 2:58? I mean, I don't get the point of wearing them period, but.... for cable work? Really? Is your grip that shitty you can't hold onto the bar to do, say, lat pulldowns? I'd say save yourself the money on overpriced attachments and just start working out your forearms and improve your weak ass grip if you can't hold onto a cable attachment while lifting. I mean weight stacks go up to like what on a cable machine? 300 lbs? 400 lbs? MAX. I think the highest I've seen is 300 lbs. That said, I've never seen a machine with a 1:1 ratio. They're at best 2:1 meaning to pull 100 lbs on a stack you only need 50 pounds of force. So that 300 lb stack is really only like 150 lbs. If you can't hold onto a lat pulldown bar while pulling 150 lbs.... that's just sad.
