How ironic that Magic was fighting for $600k and no one taught him the value of stock options, thereby leading him to make the worst financial decisions of his life. He rejected an offer by Nike for 100k shares and $1 for every shoe sold. Nike sells approximately 780 million shoes a year now. He'd be making almost $1 billion every year just on shoe sales alone. I can't imagine how it must be to think how rich he could have been had he just signed an agreement with Nike in 1979. It's impossible for me to imagine what that kind of money must feel like.

Inflation. During the 70s & 80s, players in all sports regularly made 6 figures, which was to equivalent to what $50 million contract is today. And 6 figures a year was a lot of money back then. It wasn't until the late 80s, early 90s when salaries started increasing.

@@pomerlain8924 in a book I read "Money Is Sport" the Authored proved through Economic Charts and Recordings that the owners from 70-90s were receiving 50x vs the players 5x in profits!!! And Lockouts were the only Leverage players had to re-negotiate base to Max salaries.

Incorrect. You forget the Nba was never really profitable until Magic and Bird came along. Heck you probably dont know that by the late 70s the nba was on the verge of bankruptcy.

@@ibashcommunists6847 what does anything of what you stated have to do with the Owners receiving 50x vs 5x for the Players who are doing the heavy lifting. I don't care if the entire corporation is not doing 100x the fact remands that the owners were taking 95% of the profits. Damn what's hard to understand about that?
