Magic Johnson tells Shannon that Kareem isn’t going to handle it well once LeBron passes him for NBA’s All-Time Leading Scorer. “If I got to be honest, Kareem isn’t going to handle it well…And it’s a dude that’s playing for the Lakers.”

Yes Kareem just has to learn not everything needs to be said to the public. Every move bron makes he has something to say. If you think he’s doing something wrong you can easily get his number and I know bron with all respect he has for the ones who paved the way for him would have a long conversation every time. One of the worst things for Kareem's image happened in the 1980 Finals. Kareem was well on his way to winning Finals MVP, but he famously got hurt in game 5 and missed game 6. What everyone seems to remember from the 1980 Finals is Magic had 42 and 15 in game 6 and won MVP. What people forget is Kareem had 40 and 15 in game 5 despite playing hurt in the 4th quarter. Playing only five games, Kareem scored more points, grabbed more rebounds, and blocked more shots than anyone else in that series. But Magic was so shockingly great in game 6 that everyone forgets how good Kareem was and that Finals MVP had his name on it if he was available and played a mediocre game.

Lebron earned it as much as Kareem did. An achievement like this isn’t given on a platter to anyone, it’s earned. He’s put in as much work if not more work to not only sustain a level excellence for almost 20 years to get this point, when most guys fall out the league after 5 years. Maintaining a high level of play in an extremely competitive league is not easy, so don’t ever say Lebron had it easy.

Jabbar was double-teamed when he was FORTY! I personally saw Wes Unseld beat Jabbar. I thought Kareem would turn around and deck him but he didn't! The NBA today allows people to make uncontested layups, travel, and carry the ball. Matter of fact, if you score and travel or carry, you're celebrated! Different league when Kareem played.

You have to remember that Jordan and Kareem played several years in college while LeBron was already playing in the NBA. Additionally, 3pters weren't something power forwards and centers never took in the 20th century. Jerry West would probably average 30 a game instead of 27 if a 3pt line existed prior to 1980.

Kareem came into the league 3 years later than Lebron did, so he played older and in an era where technology and knowledge about keeping your body at top level was not really thing. Add to that that he didn't shoot 3's and you see how huge his record really is. Personally I liked Hakeem more and consider him as best big man of all time but Kareem is there as one of the best ever for sure. This record is extremely dependent on longevity though and like him or not you have to give Lebron props here. He is really putting effort in being fit and ready as he can be.
