Hi Sandy check out this video where we found a live grenade, this one we found out after the bomb squad had X-rayed it was so unstable due to deteriorating badly inside could have gone off at any moment. extremely unlikely for a grenade to explode by magnetism, it needs a fuse. lol

Grenades don't explode using magnets, its detonated by the fuse which is started when you throw it, the handle flies off under the pressure of a spring that snaps the firing pin onto a percussion cap that starts the process and after a minimum of 5 seconds it explodes. When we were grenade training on Sennybridge training area in Wales, the one thing you treated with respect was the detonator, touching it with your fingers was a no, no as the heat in them could set it off. The body was just a round lump you could throw and play catch with all day and nothing would happen but once you screwed that detonator in then you had to treat it with respect as they are deadly, even old Mills grenades are deadly as they are made to cause fragmentation hence the pineapple appearance, modern ones have miles of steel wire in them to do worse damage.

Thank you for your comment, fortunately ordinance isn’t a common find while magnet fishing. They are better off dealt with and out of harms way if you come across them.
