Ingenious! Perhaps one of the most diverse and most talked about feature of Railway modelling. I’m certainly in a quandary as to what to do. I have bought various systems to try out! 🤔

G`day there, My recommendation would be Kadees unless you intend to make your own couplings Kadees would be the most reliable coupling available and you can loose shunt with them. Cheers Gormo.

Cool solution, but perhaps somewhat over engineered? Something else you could do is use two smaller magnets for each coupler with either polarity facing outward. For example: when looking at the wagon face on, you'd have the South Pole on the left and the North Pole on the right. That would allow any rolling stock to connect to any other in any facing. Could prove fiddly since the magnets would either need to be smaller, or the coupling would perhaps be too bulky.

Thanks Doctor, I`ve considered that before but felt it would be a bit clunky with magnets having enough grunt to hold a train The smaller you go the less effective they are, and then there is the question as to whether they would be pulling evenly. Anyhow it`s still a work in progress and we`ll see what eventuates. All the best Gormo

More fab ideas Gormo - I'm experimenting with magnets in O. I like Dinghams and Winterleys but both are fragile and ended (not great in the garden or when stored). I've got some twin magnets to avoid polarity issues - a work in progress still🤔🤔 Are you going to do a video on how you make them🤔🤞🤞💜💜

Gormo, great ingenuity. How about having the magnets swivelling vertically instead of horizontally, that might give more sideways play?

G`day Paul, I have developed a rotating coupling for locos and brake vans now, whereas before they were a single fixed magnet with a set polarity. The rotating magnet allows locos and brake vans to couple to any polarity wagon or coach All the best Gormo

@@greatchesterfordjunction Thanks for the explanation. I guess you have hand-made the couplers. We just need a manufacturer to adopt your idea and to make them commercially (under license) hopefully, in a variety of scales.
