FYI I've used these irons on my 308 rifle and notice a huge flaw. The recoil will cant the iron sight backwards. The passive locking system doesn't hold up very well with 308 rifle that I have. So I ended up returning them.

Did you have that problem with the MBUS Pro or the Spikes back up sights? Im building a .308 AR10 and I am looking for a set of backup iron sights. I was looking into probably getting the MBUS Pro sights, but if what you are saying is true and it is about the MBUS Pro sights, then I may reconsider. Also, since this was like a year ago, which set/brand of Back Up Iron Sights did you end up putting onto your .308? I would greatly appreciate your response as I may choose the same sights that you ended up going with. Thank you in advance brother.

I really appreciate your review of the Magpul MBUS PRO Backup Sights and the comparison with the Spike's Tactical Micro Sights. I did find a good price on a set of the Magpul MBUS PRO Backup Sight set for $120.00 shipped on "not so gun friendly" ebay. The Magpuls seem to offer "more bang for the buck" whereas the Spike's are pricey for what you get.

I prefer the Magpul MBUS Pro LR Rear sight, that IS adjustable for elevation and windage.

One of my biggest concerns is that you did not mount either of these sights on a rifle for the viewer to determine just how it sits on the weapon. This would have been helpful to determine exactly how the profile of the site looks as well as how each site maneuvers when sitting on the weapon. Either way, while the sites have merits I think that the Magpul Pro comes out ahead but both sites are very overpriced when other sites of equal to or similar quality for less than half of what these sites run.

Great vids as always. I kinda had a impulse purchase and bought the spikes micro sights but, all along I wanted the magpul micro sights. I'm kinda kicking myself in the butt about it.

I bought a pair for my build. I like them, however, to adjust the front sight I had to use the pliers of my MUT muti-tool which I found a little frustrating.

is it possible to use the Magpul pro rear sight with the spikes tactical front sight? is the height off by a ton?

The height shouldn't be off at all. AR15 iron sights (the rears) are designed to cowitenss with the fixed front sight/gas block of a AR15, this determines the height. So mix/matching the Magpul and Spikes shouldn't be an issue. Not all irons have the same height though, Troy has micro sights and there are ones designed specifically to mount to exposed gas blocks (with integrated picatinny rail). Neither of these situations apply to the sights you mentioned though, but its just a FYI.

You must have a unique pair because my sight tool fits both the front and rear sight of my spikes sights.

Spikes tactical Gen 2 micro sights are better. They solved that problem with the rear sight being easy to break off. I like the spikes front sight a lot better

The Spikes rear is designed that way because it gives you a better sight picture, and overall picture of what around and in front of you, where the Magpul practically blocks everything out except whats in the little hole. Overall, the magpul is cheaper. And cmon, who gives a damn about the tool? Put it in your grip, or stock, or just make do with it. There are tools for everything, not really a big deal, especially for the high flying range ninja that you are :p

+GeronimoBiggles Well, its probably best to determine what are your priorities in a backup sight first and then determine if the item your looking at meets those priorities. For me, I want a sight that flips up, locks in place and stays there till I decide to fold them down again. Second, I don't want to fiddle with the aperture, aside from maybe flipping from close range to long range. I also want the rear aperture to be protected, no protruding knobs that can catch on gear, the ability of the sight to securely tighten down (without canting), threading of the bolts into steel inserts (not into the aluminum), ability to hold zero and tool less adjustability (a 556 round should be all that is needed). While I have not used every option available (I am working towards that goal), I do keep coming back to the Troy sights, even though the new design isn't as robust as the previous generation.

Back when spikes has a good reputation. Now, other than the comic lowers, nobody really even talks about Spikes much anymore. I have their Gadsen lower and it’s in spec. That’s all I can ask.
