I jumped on a brand new mahindra to test drive I broke the plastic with my foot hardly touched it the key switch wouldn't work and when he did get the key switch to work the damn thing wouldn't start he said don't worry about that I put a new fuel pumps on them before you buy it. I told him I'm going to John Deere.

I own a 2538 Mahindra. It has been flawless and maintenance is easy. It’s the predecessor to the 2638 Tim looked at. The seat and joystick placement has been addressed in the 2638. Better placement and suspension seat. The PTO lever on the left hand side is left in the ON position and the dash switch is used for turning the PTO off and on. The lever by the seat is for unlocking the PTO when hooking something up so the shaft can be spun easily for alignment.

Ive got a 2007 Mahindra 1526 series with 1000+ hours on it used for loader work and brush hogging mainly . Last month I bought a Mahindra 2555 Open station. The 1526 is still a great machine that I have not had any issues with. I do maintain my machines well and dont beat on them. The way the 1526 has held up made it easy for me to pick up another Mahindra! Cheers!

Dont start to compare a Mahindra to a Deere.........I have no issues with Mahindras, they are good equipment, but the hydraulics dont even come close to the Deere. We break ours constantly, but its us overloading what ever we are using. That hydro system is stronger than the tractor. A Kubota the same size doesnt lift near the weight(we found that out first hand thanks to a now pissed off Kubota owner)

I've owned a couple Mahindra tractors now. One of which I beat and abuse regularly and it is yet to fail. I do follow a strict maintenance schedule though. That being said the only brand of tractor I have ever not liked was John Deere. I feel like they have been coasting on an old reputation that just isn't true anymore. Old JD tractors are great and heck the new ones might be as well. My personal experience with them was poor. At least I have owned and ran one before I choose to knock it. A lot of people hate on Mahindra and that is fine everyone is welcome to their opinion. Make sure they have actually owned one before you listen to them though. It is very easy to read one persons opinion online and then spread it like the gospel. At the end of the day. Only you know what is best for you. Cheers!

You are NOT alone with your poor results with JD. They have a "romantic" rep of some kind today, but the truth is that while the old ones were durable, they were an outdated machine by the 1940's. The name had changed, but they were still, basically, a Waterloo Boy hit-and-miss engine (albeit SLIGHTLY modernized) driving a tractor. The quality of all their utility and mid-size ag tractors is fair at best, and the utility's are certainly not up to many competitors. And Massey Ferguson? People bought the later models based on the reputation the older 100 series built, but their tractors today are JUNK. I think my brother's (and his neighbor's) JD are much better than the current MF's.

I see all the anti-Mahinda sentiment in the comments. I have 2016 PST 3550 4x4 with about 280 hours on it. I have had no problems at all and it's done everything I've ever asked of it. Nothing needed other than preventative maintenance. Given my experience, I'd buy another Mahindra. My Dad has had JD his entire life and although they are good tractors, it seems like you pay an awful lot more for the green paint. One thing I didn't hear the salesman say is that the Mahindra 2500/2600 series tractors are three cylinder, while getting into the 3500 series tractors and up are four cylinder. So the 2500 50HP isn't the same as the 3500 50HP.

Great video Tim and Christy. I was all set to go with a subcompact Deere or Massey, but then I briefly was able to operate my brother-in-law's Yanmar YT235. Nothing special about Yanmar but it really opened my eyes to evaluating a compact tractor size as well. So all of these videos you're doing on the compact class are very helpful to me in seeing other tractors without the potentially negative dealership experience.

Yeah that is true, but I don't do any commercial work if I did I think I would go with a kubota that was my second choice on tractor. I think with the Mahindra is that none use of the diesel particulate filter is the unwillingness to warranty commercial work. But for some one like me that does not use the tractor so heavily and have to change out that filter is so so costly.

Tim, I had a Kubota 26 hp HST that was bulletproof and sipped fuel. I had it 8 years and replaced it with a 45 hp Kioti open cockpit clutch because I needed more power. It was also super reliable and very efficient. I bought it new for $26k. I currently have a Branson 78 hp shuttle with a cab. Again, I upgraded for more power. It was a great value for $34k. It has been less reliable than any other tractor I’ve owned with warranty work needed for three repairs at under 50 hours. and it’s very loud even with a cab. It came with HVAC and a radio but you can’t hear it so that was a worthless add on. It’s also a fuel hog but it’s loaded with power. I’ve only had it 6 months and have under 100 hours on it. The warranty is 2 years on everything but 6 on the drive train. It has been reliable since those first 3 repairs.

Very nice dealer visit today! I've heard very good things about TYM's but some spotty reports about tractors built in India- (electronics an issue) On the same note I love a company that offers a long warranty and stands behind their equipment. As for MF lots of good reports on those... I also like the KISS rule for tractors, too much electronics, solenoids, or accessories leads to problems in the long run! Thanks again!

I am not Brand Loyal, I worked in the equipment rental industry for a long time. Each brand has its benefits and drawbacks. Personally I like the shuttleshift option, then again I come from a backhoe perspective having once owned case 580c. The RK's might be worth a look. Mike's reviews on the 37 series against the Kubota is pretty spot on. Features, usability, dealer support, parts availability and cost are all factors one has to take into consideration. No matter what you pick (insert a name here) remember rule one of owning a tiller. There will always be things you wish you had. Good luck !!

I recently watched a Mahindra review from around 2016, if I recall correctly. The fella doing the review used the tractor for his small business, and he mentioned that this drastically cut his factory warranty. So, maybe something to look into before making a final decision. I'm sure all the brands have less commercial warranty than they do for residential. Either way, great review! I'm anxious to see which way you end up going.

Another fine video by TTWT. I am loving this series. I wish you had checked out the Mahindra 3540 while you were there, I would have been interested in your opinion as that is the tractor I think I want (if I can get it past the Finance Committee). The one thing I don't like on the 3540, at least the one I saw last year, was that it only had a rocker style pedal on the HST instead of the two pedal system.

I have a 2013 Mahindra Max 28 XL Hydro w/Loader and tiller. Been a great machine so far. My only complaint is the diff-lock is temperamental to engage. When you are in high range, the hydro is weak, but in low range it performs very well. The Mitsubishi diesel has been great and the hydro is smooth. All metal fenders and real tractor frame. I move a lot of gravel to maintain my driveway and it performs well. Just note, the emax, to my knowledge are Korean, where the max is Japanese made.

In 2012, I bought a used 2009 Massey Ferguson 1533 with a loader and 8ft woods blade. I bought it from the dealer who had sold it because the owner was going through a divorce and sold it back to the dealer. The tractor only had 142 hours on it and still had the nubs on the tires. The dealer completely serviced it, washed and waxed it. Right now it has 995 hours on it and it has always exceeded my expectations. New, it sold for $24,500, and I bought it for $14, 500. I do everything with it--load lots of shale and dirt, grade and ditch the drive, firewood, pick up logs and load them to take to the saw mill, brush hog, dig out stumps, clear brush, carry hay, tools, etc. The only thing I don't like is that it came with the bar industrial tires; if you're driving on any thing but dirt, shale or gravel, you're going to spin and have limited steering--on ice, snow or mud, those tires are like slicks. I also hate the "Woods" blade!!! To date, I've spent another $500 having a machine shop modify and repair it; Yesterday, I saw another broken factory weld. "WOODS" is another way to spell 'JUNK!" I had looked at Mahindra a couple of years before purchasing my Massey, and when I went back to that same dealer, he was selling "LS" tractors. He told me he quit selling Mahindra because the company did not adhere to their warranties, and when they did, payment to him from the company was slow if at all. Anyway. I love my Massey Ferguson. Both of my brothers-in-law own the exact same tractor and are just as happy with their purchase.

Both work great in like the new tractors. People don't take time to produce quality products cause competition chase them to rush and get there products out on the lot first.

Hi Tim, I went with an LS XR4140 Shuttle Shift. It was between that or Kioti; dealer location and reputation made the difference. My research did come up with comments regarding LS frame stiffness issues when under load with the loader, but those were for the 30 Series. The model LS I bought is the parent of New Holland Boomers, and many love them. I'm not yet at 50hrs so we'll see, but thus far this tractor is a tank. Box blading hard gravel, loader lifting, brush hogging, and grapple work...it hasn't even grunted. Check the LS XR series because they have the added features..two rear remotes, seat upgrade, ESC, tractor mounted joystick in great location, third function capability. It does have DPF but my first regen happened at 20hrs and didn't even notice...just kept working.

Fla-bushcraft Prepper loving my 4540 and would like to have bought the 4550 but there was quite a difference in price. I had dealer add the rear remote at purchase for 1400, at the time they wanted 22 for the 4540 but 28 for the 50. Sure wanted it but happy with what the 40 is so far.

I bought a Kubota L3800 a few years back, the L3901 would be the modern equivalent, and I love it! I'd definitely recommend a Kubota when I comes to compact tractors. Mainly because Kubota was all about smaller compact tractors from the get go. Now that being said I do think Massey Ferguson makes a very good tractor. If I had the opportunity to get a Massey I probably would have got one, but my local Massey dealer doesn't carry Massey in the 30-45 hp often. Also I got a sweet deal on my Kubota. I don't think you could go wrong with a Massey. I do not like Mahindras at all. Mainly because their marketing seems very wormy and sketchy. Not to much they have a bad reputation when it comes to customer service. There are other things I don't like about them, but those are the main two. Just my opinion. Good luck with your tractor search!

I like how you made a point to mention the TYM vs Mahindra built tractors. I work for a Mahindra dealer, and I will quickly tell you there IS a huge difference in quality. TYM just feels cheap to me. I feel if Mahindra would come out with a hydrostatic, or even power shuttle version of the 4500 series, they would sell quick!

I agree. Nice to see the different options, capabilities and “trade-offs” (good or bad) from the different manufacturers. I appreciate the time, effort and education from these dealer visits. I like the idea you mention, TTWT, of your finalists, specs and reasoning behind your choices for finalists. That is what it comes down to and how I made my decision when I purchased last year. It doesn’t matter anyone’s opinion, it’s what fits your needs and budget, not the color 😁

I don't recall seeing you driving a larger tractor in your current videos so don't know if you got one, but wow 38K. You can get a TYM 40-50HP hydro, with lots of the finer features for closer to 25K. Probably a few 1000 more with the cab.

Once again, loving this tractor shopping series and it was great to see Two brands in one video at one dealership. The Masseys are really appealing, in terms in quality and maybe elegance, if you could use that word for a tractor. Not too keen on mahindra except that last one, the old school tractor with R1’s tires and standard trans looks like a quality built machine, old school but still modern. I wish they would all make a line like that. Most tractors nowadays have gone away from that tractor feel and feel more like a skidsteer or other piece of construction equipment. I looked but I feel like maybe I missed the JD video. But didn’t see one. Are you still going to the Deere dealer? Or did I miss that video??? The 4044 and 52’s are calling your name!

Tim, you may want to look at the fuel capacity as well for these larger machines. I wouldn't get a machine that has less than 11 or 12 gallons of fuel. To make sure you have PLENTY of fuel for longer jobs. Keep in mind the weight of the machine with an implement on your trailer. And keep in mind of added weight like fluid in rear tires or wheel weights. Not to mention the width fitting between the fenders of your trailer. I suggest writhing the pros & cons of the machines you looked at and eliminate one by one on cons.

If I was gonna get a tractor.. that last one would be it. All mechanical. He mentioned it had just the one saftey switch for neutral to start it. I've heard from some other KZfaq channels that the electronics is where the Mahindra has more issues. That 50hp basic tractor would eliminate most of that. Thanks for the review.. cool to see all the different options out there.

If you like that 2638, it’s made by TYM and is equivalent to the T394, though it has a different engine (which I find much quieter). TYM often has better pricing, and if you have Rural King in Indiana, you can get that same tractor from them, called the RK37, for $21.9k with the hydrostatic. The dealer matters, obviously, but it might save you some money going either of those other two routes.

I have a HST transmission, im doing a lot of loader work, grading, boxblade... if I could redo this, I would choose a Hydro shuttle (like on the massey) because HST doesnt have the power, you have 3 speed and you are stuck in it... if you think about it, backhoe and loader all have Shuttle shift (also called powershift... hydro shuttle, etc..). HST is just there for "girls" ;)

I have gone through the same decisions as Tim. Started with a GC1710 “little red”, based on dollar value, dealer support, performance, reliability, warranty, and overall strength, I added a 1726e as the bigger brother “big red”. I do my own maintenance and continue to be impressed with how they are built as well as the work I get out of them. I had a Deere, 2 actually. Honestly, two things turned me from green to red...price and plastic. JD makes a great tractor for sure, but is charging you for their fame and too many plastic parts, levers, knobs, etc... Happy shopping Tim!

The Mahindra 4035 HST is one of the baddest tractors ever made in my opinion. I have two of them and they impress me more everyday. They got all the right stuff in all the right places. They were ahead of their time for the tier 3. Very high performers.

And you are happy withe the transmission? My 5035 has to be run at a high rpm to get to get the tractor moving at any decent speed. Wish the pedal all the way down produced more speed at lower rpms is all. Put it up to 2k rpm then it moves fast enough but now the loader is touchy since so much hyraulic fluid is flowing. Just complaining

If you're looking for a small frame w/ more HP, the Mahindra 1635 should be hitting the showrooms soon. The 1500/1600 series is the Mitsubishi built 'premium' line from Mahindra, and the new 1635 is a 35hp built on the frame of the current 1526. I was waiting to see this model, but decided on the Kioti CK3510SE. There's also a 1640 which would be on a slightly larger frame, similar to the current 1538. Edit - Oh, and you will need a bigger truck, and maybe trailer...
