Pilot changes and mail delivery on the Detroit River. Fleet Captain Sam
Buchanan operates the J.W. Westcott II while Captain's daughter Jessica
Buchanan acts as deck hand. Jessica is working at the mail boat while
in college.

I came across this while searching for videos of the Westcott and shipping on the Detroit River to show my students. Jessica was a former 2nd and 3rd grade student of mine. So nice to see her working with her Dad, Sam.

I always loved watching the Westcott II deliver the mail to the ships. What a great vid of how it's done. Thanks, and great driving. Keep the tradition alive.

Capt. Sam was at it 30 years ago when i worked as a deckhand just out of high school. He still looks the same in this vid! It was an awesome time working there.

Cpt. Sam Buchanan is one of the nicest, most down-to-earth guys I ever met. Many fun cruises on the Friendship! Got his engineer to let me go below decks to see the Cat's. Memories I will cherish forever!

I love cummins but still remember to this day how the old 6-71 sounded on this vessel..!
