This is the third mini-doll tutorial in this series. I made the American Bulldog(Pitbull) and the English Bulldog videos already. They were part of a commission and decided to kill two birds with one stone, by making these 3 pieces each with a different armature so that you can see 3 different ways to make an art doll, and I can have new content. I also got to demonstrate different ways to get the fur texture and color you want without having to buy a ton of expensive fur, and I also used different fur materials to show a variety of options when making dolls like these. These are much smaller than the dolls that I normally make so I had to amend the way I do things slightly out of necessity but it is the same overall process just smaller. I am not trying to show you how to make just this one doll but the technique so you can make any kind of doll you want in any size. My dolls are usually much larger than these but it is very hard to show a large armature with the equipment I have. Because my dolls are very large, I add the boning on almost all of them, but as you will see in these three videos, it is not always necessary, especially on a very small doll. My goal is to show you techniques as foundational learning so that you can apply what I show you to your own work. This armature is anthropomorphic so it has a human-like anatomy, so no fancy dog or cat leg shapes to worry about. This is why I chose this one to have the head with an articulated joint that will allow it to move like a BJD but it has a metal armature which gives you one more option with less work. This is a hybrid technique that I developed over many years of making my dolls. I absolutely love making my dolls this way as I can turn the head to face the viewer, tilt it and really give the doll more personality without fear that its neck wire will break or that it will come unstrung. It is the best of both worlds in my opinion. I am uploading this new version of the video to replace the multi-section video and to line the content the way it should be. My previous computer could not handle the size of the file with it all combined so I broke it up. I hope it flows better this way.
NOTE: These Three specific characters and names and their original images are the sole property of Michele Schneider's(Modern Family), I am teaching the techniques used to make a similar doll. I am using them under fair use for educational purposes. I am in no way authorizing anyone to make THIS specific doll with his outfit or name, but you can absolutely make this cat doll. Just not the with her bandoleer, hat, and boots. But perhaps Puss in boots, or a fancy saloon girl cat. .
