I still think Cleveland made a huge mistake by not having Charlie Sheen throw out the first pitch as Wild Thing during the world series.
@heatherj569warriorwoman85 жыл бұрын
Gotta agree with you on that one! I'm from CLE/Akron area; have been to many a Tribe/Cavs/Browns games! However, when the time came for Opening Day, Sheen was all about his AIDS/"Truth Tour" etc, and I'm betting it was ALL PR so the Tribe wouldn't let such a "controversial figure" throw out the first pitch. Sheen has ONE HELL of an arm, though!

I think i read it right that had the Series gone to G7, he indeed was going to essentially recreate this scene. Haircut, jacket, song and good hearted insults from Randy Quaid who said he would also have been happy to get back into this character. Absolutely. While this one has more character and story to the showdown, it still feels like they're just copying what they did the last time. My uncle was a stuntman in this movie. He was basically the catchers stuntman. So, my uncle actually caught those 3 pitches and every Indians pitch in the movie. They needed a stuntman for a catcher. Then, they came across my uncle, former minor league catcher. ( drafted by the Blue Jays, but I'm an O's fan ) He got drafted out of high school because the school had a pitcher who could throw 92 MPH. So, while the scouts were scouting the pitcher, one said, "Wait a minute, if he's throwing that hard, someone needs to catch that." and who was catching, my uncle. He was also a good hitter. The pitcher ended up getting drafted by the Brewers ( He made it to Triple-A. My uncle made it to A Adv. ). Another one of the pitchers, Derek Hasselhoff, also got drafted ( By the White Sox, he made it to majors, but never made a start before being traded to the Red Sox ).

It’s such a great reveal for what is the payoff pitch for the movie. As Tom D said, it’s epic.

This was a real incredible set up as they intentionally walked Beck to load the bases for the force at the plate and Parkman couldn't time Wild Thing's pitches which is why he struck out.

Baseball USED to feel this way. Thay aura of your favorite team and the pop of the crowd. It felt like a movie when it was close. Playoff or regular season

Orioles baseball feels that way current day. THE YARD IS LITTTTT

@@popfu1704 I never had a favorite team. I just loved watching it. 15 (maybe 20 ) teams had that if you were watching in the middle of nowhere on a portable tv, China or just at home. That was pre2000. It went down to 10 and now I see playoffs only.

Usually when an actor portrays an athlete its comical. Charlie Sheens pitching mechanics look spot on and its obvious he has the genetic make up to pull this off. Great job

Lots better mechanic than Tim Robbins in Bull Durham, that's for sure.

Charlie Sheen does have baseball experience and thought about being a MLB player several years ago. He was pitching at 85+ mph in high school.
@bryanphillips66662 жыл бұрын
Charlie's partying ways were one of the reasons MLB didn't pick him up. If he'd taken it more seriously though, Charlie could have been a great pitcher, he (now it's been a while since I saw this documentary on him) played in college or high school
@sergeantmasson36692 жыл бұрын
@@bryanphillips6666 WRONG ! Charlie Sheen chose an acting career path instead of a baseball career. MLB had no part in that decision. In fact, Charlie never even tried-out for any MLB team. Had he done so, he likely would've offered a MLB minor leagues contract because he was that good. Mid 90's pitching, back then, was quite impressive.
@gouryg47742 жыл бұрын
He did pitch in HS and College, he also trained with a MLB pitching coach to further refine his style for the movies.

This scene acted out in real life: Vaughn: I want to face Parkman. Taylor: (crickets) Uecker: And Taylor is making ANOTHER call to the pen before Vaughn throws the first pitch.
@nahor884 жыл бұрын
That's one thing I liked about the first Major League; it actually tried to simulate what happens in baseball. Not only would a real manager have taken him out as soon as he said he wants to face their best hitter he has a miserable average against, no way he would've thrown 3 straight heaters. I was expecting his last pitch to be a change-up and Parkman would swing way early and miss expecting the heat.

You cant sub out a pitcher before they face at least one batter (3 as of 2020). But yeah, no way a manager is putting up with that

The shot of the umpire getting into position to reveal Vaughan just as the music kicks up is amazing.
