Hi, thank you for lesson. Watching your swatch gradually growing - which decrease type would you recommend to keep the same pace on the other side to achive same triangle shape on the other side ... Thank you :)
@PurlSoho4 жыл бұрын
We would recommend using the following decrease method, which we used in our Rectangular Colorblock Bias Blanket! Row 1 (right side): K1, ssk, knit to last three stitches, k2tog, k1. [2 stitches decreased] Row 2: P2, knit to last two stitches, p2. www.purlsoho.com/create/2015/09/04/rectangular-colorblock-bias-blanket/

Your video is excellent. The confusing part for me is calling the right of ones knitting the m1l and then on the left of your knitting, it’s a m1r. I am quite certain there is an explanation for this, however as stated above...great lesson!

The naming of these increases (Left versus Right) indicates only which way the newly formed stitch slants. We've knit this swatch using the m1L on the right side so that the stitches all lean Left towards the center of the stockinette stitch panel and vice versa on the Right side. These two increases can be used anywhere in a knitting pattern and are not necessarily intended for use only on the Right or Left side. Hope this helps!

Thanks for writing in! MIL and M1R can be utilized anywhere in the body of your work and are named because of the direction in which the increase slants. They aren’t limited to either the left or right side of the work and we agree - that can get confusing! We’ve chosen to place the M1L on the right side and the M1R on the left side of this swatch because the slant of the increases creates a pleasant diagonal growing from the corner, which we utilized in our Rectangular Colorblock Bias Blanket pattern! @t

I see you've answered Haley just 3 weeks ago, so I hope you'll answer this: several of us are confused as to why you m1L on the right, and make1R on the left side of the swatch. Someone was wondering if the naming convention has been switched...? It would be helpful to know, as I'm just learning to use this increase. Thanks!

Is there a reason to why you are placing the Left increase on the right-hand side of the swatch and the Right increase on the left-hand side?

And after trying it, I have to say I like the way they look when using them the way you instruct!

Great video but I had the same question as many others here. I understand the explanation, which is technical, but in reality the m1l causes THE WORK to expand to the right and the m1r causes THE WORK to expand to the left. It is very confusing.

You are a great teacher! I am sooooo confused! You're saying m1L, but it's leaning to the right! I've heard it's the other way around, m1R leans right, m1L leans left.... now I'm completely confused! Would you please clarify? Thank you so much!
@PurlSoho2 жыл бұрын
I think our swatch may be confusing you! If you notice the third stitch in Laura's swatch when she starts the technique, the stitch below is leaning to the left (a M1L) and at the end of the row the stitch leans to the right (a M1R.) So what you're seeing is the increases growing in the direction of the right or left, but the actual stitch itself leans the way it is named. I hope this clarifies it!

I’ve followed this several times and still get a hole using this M1r method, any suggestions?

Hi! Would you mind verifying for me that you're picking up the bar between your stitches going from back to front, for your Make 1 Right? And then are you knitting thru the front of the loop to secure the tension? If you need a step by step walk thru, you can click here: www.purlsoho.com/create/make-one-right-m1r-make-one-left-m1l/ Let us know if this helps!
@CherryBlossomHill3 жыл бұрын
@@PurlSoho I am, but maybe there was something wrong with my tension. I tried another tutorial (from Webs I think) where you lift the bar using the right needle for both M1R and M1L, then reverse how I slip it onto the other needle and switch knitting from front or back, and it seemed to help. Getting that to look perfect for the mitten increases on a thumb gore is challenging. I admire people who can get this to look flawless. Thanks so much.

Now do "M1L, M1R" with NO knit stitches in between. That is what my pattern calls for and I have NO idea how to get enough "bar" to make that work. I am exhausted trying to figure it out. Everyone shows it the easy way with at least one knit stitch in between, but lots of patterns don't give you the easy way. Sigh.
