Hello Everyone! In this video am mixing pigments for my Dutch Pour. Honestly I am mixing pigments to make a medium to heavy body paint first and then dilute down with pouring medium. With this recipe you can tailor the consistency to the technique that you want to work with. Personally I work with mostly thin paints so I am showing you how I mix my paint that I make from pigments into a dutch pour consistency to use with my dutch pours and pearl pours. I really hope that you enjoy this video and if you have any question please comment below! I read and respond to all comments.

Materials I used in this demonstration:
3- 4"x10" Tiles
Amsterdam: Titanium White, Deep Gold
Custom Blue Gey, Custom Blush Pink
TLP Pigments: Ballet Slipper, Twilight
Golden GAC 800
US Floetrol
POURING MEDIUM FOR PUDDLE AND DUTCH POUR PAINTS:
50% Floetrol 50% Golden GAC 800 (or Golden Color Pouring Medium Gloss)
PUDDLE & DUTCH POUR paints mixed 1 pt paint to 5 pts PM and water to consistency (tube paint approximately 1 part water, fluid paint no water) (This is the ratio for highly pigmented paints like Golden, Amsterdam, Pebeo, etc)
No silicone used for cells. It was all the layering of the paints that made those cool effects.
Please like and subscribe to my channel. I’d love to hear your comments and thoughts! Also, don’t forget to hit the notification bell to make sure you receive all notices of new videos.

Hi, Tara. Just a little "tip" that works and it makes sense, for me, first use the liquide and then add the pigment, in that case you won't have pigment stuck to the bottom of your container and less "puff" in the air. I don't know, maybe I imagine things. 🙃🙃

GAC 100 is a fluid acrylic polymer just what golden uses for their fluid paints, GOLDEN ACRYLIC Compound 100 is fantastic for making a acrylic paint from any dry pigment or mica….I use it instead of JoSonjas for the bloom, wishing you a fabulous year Tara, thanks for the beauty you share in living colors 🙋🏼‍♀️🌹❤️❤️ 🙇‍♀️ oh dear spoke too soon lol before watching the video…I was showing off 😅….if you need to use water after mixing use Golden Wetting Agent to break the water surface tension and a more fluid paint if needed add to the Blick polymer is much thicker than the GAC less transparent, also if your using the beautiful Primary Element dry pigments GAC 800 works for them not to bleed 😊

What a great video! I haven't really gotten into the pigments because of this very reason. I have a few Colourarte pigments but when I used them they didn't work for me because I didn't mix all my paints and pigments the same way...which can be costly. Others use Josania varnish to wet their pigments and it can be costly too. I so appreciate you experimenting and showing us that there are less expensive ways to mix your pigments. I have the gloss gel from Golden because I use it to make my CA. The Aussie floetrol is too expensive for me. The Golden products are so reliable but its good to know you can get less expensive ingredients...especially when you are still trying to master a technique. All your experimental video are so invaluable to me! I've taken your recipes and used them exclusively, so I don't have spend a lot of money only to find out it doesn't work. Those paintings are divine! When I first saw them, I thought they were your blooms because they had so detail. On looking closer I saw the ethereal wispyness you get with your Dutch pours and I was very excited to see how you created them. BTW, if I don't really pay attention (and sometimes when I do😕😄) I'll get paint everywhere. Just yesterday I got it on my face and some in my mouth...yuk! paint does not taste good😋. Great video Tara! So very helpful!😊🌟💎🌟💎🌟

Nice video! I'm curious about what caused the cell formations, especially in the middle one. Do you think the Golden Gloss Gel made a difference? I totally understand your hesitance about mixing water with the pigment paints you make. Just know that pigments are simply what gives paints their color and just about all paints are made of pigments (organic, synthetic,...), binders (acrylic polymer emulsion - aka acrylic medium, PVA, Gum Arabic, linseed oil,…), solvents, and additives. Natural mineral pigments that haven't been chemically modified are water soluble. Modern pigments are synthesized in labs, thus the problem with wetting with water. The point is, acrylic paints that come out of tubes and jars are made with pigments and once your pigments are thoroughly wetted and incorporated into a water-soluble acrylic binder (gel/medium), you should be able to treat it just as you would any of the acrylic paints you buy. I have not used This Little Piggy pigments, but have made paints with others using various mediums - you can see the pigment IDs Golden uses for their paints at www.goldenpaints.com/technicaldata/pigment. Sometimes I run into a pigment that is more difficult to incorporate into the binder. If this ever happens to you, try mixing on a paint palette (glass sheet, etc) with a palette knife - similar to mulling mineral paints. If you are interested in treating the paints you make like the paints you buy and want to be sure it's safe, just ask the folks at Golden via their contact form (golden.com/about/contact-us/) or via support@golden.com. Don't mean to bore you with geeky info, but thought you might want to know. (。^‿^。)

Thank you so much Marie! All the info that you outlined is such great information. Since doing this video I have had a lot of practice and have come to those conclusions but it’s great to hear it confirmed by someone as experienced as yourself. I absolutely appreciate everything that you said! As far as the golden gel gloss being the cell maker…I’m not sure but I actually think it has more to do with paint densities than anything else. I think that blowout just had more dense paints blown over the top than the other two. I could be completely wrong but that is my opinion. Thanks for the question! That was a good one! 🙏🏻☺️❤️

Hey there sista! Gorgeous results. What a great video!! Thanks for the shoutout! I’m so glad you’ve put this out because although I had the right idea, I had the wrong product. They all turned out beautifully! What do you think caused the extra cells in the Golden gel gloss piece?
@PiecesofTaraArtistry
@PiecesofTaraArtistry 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Diane. It was the titanium white that was blown over the colors. It had the most titanium white in it and it sank and the other colors rose to the top. The reason I can say this with confidence is at the end when I show you the dried results…the one I did off camera was with the golden gloss medium and it didn’t have nearly as many cells as the one I did on camera. That’s one of the reasons I love using the Amsterdam titanium white on top…it always creates beautiful cells and lacing. 🙏🏻☺️❤️

Hello Ronda. So you only mix your pigments with the gac 100 and gel medium & then pouring medium. You mix your tube and fluid paints just directly with the pouring medium- no gac100 or gel medium. Hope this helps! ☺️🙏🏻❤️

Lovely! Curious tho it looks like a lot of volume of the pigment paints was added of each such that it was necessary to blow more thus losing the definitions of each color… could be one element in why you’re “ losing “ a color? Txz jeanne

Thank you Jeanne! I’m not exactly sure what you are meaning but b4 I mixed my pigments this way the pigments would sink and disappear. No longer though once I mixed them this way. 🙏🏻☺️❤️

Thank you so much. Yes same pouring medium for all colors. The only thing that changed was the gel medium I used to mix the pigments with. They all performed the same so any is possible.

Hello again Tara, I have two really big paintings that were ruined from using Erica's recipe. It's like there is sand on them from where the pigments didn't dissolve. So I'm trying it your way tomorrow. I've just mixed the paints. These tiles of yours are gorgeous. I just love that look. I noticed Tara that there's a lot of paint left on the tiles and they dried so well. No cracking. Do you ever have any trouble with cracking? Thank you sweety
@PiecesofTaraArtistry
@PiecesofTaraArtistry Жыл бұрын
Hi Ronda! There may seem to be a lot of paint left but because the paints are so thin there really isn’t that much. I almost never have cracking due to the gac800 in my pouring medium. 🙏🏻☺️❤️

Hi Tara, I’ve been nervous about using Floetrol with the pigments, as I’m worried the pigments will lose their sparkle. Can you please resolve this for me? Also, is GAC100, now replacing GAC800? Thanks Tara, I appreciate you making this video ♥️🙏💐💐💐💐
@PiecesofTaraArtistry
@PiecesofTaraArtistry 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mel! So floetrol will initially dull the pigments in the cup when you are mixing but it dries pretty clear and they dry with sparkle. If you are worried about that I would use the Liquitex pouring medium in place of the pouring medium of floetrol and gac800 mix that I use. You will just have to thin the mixture down a little bit with water if you want to do a Dutch pour. As to the GAC 100, I only use the GAC100 to wet my pigments to disperse them and melt them. It does not replace the GAC800 which is a different product. On goldens website they describes GAC100 as “ a thin, translucent, gloss medium. Useful for thinning or extending colors as well as increasing flexibility. Wets out solids more readily than other polymers and is useful for creating homemade paints.” Hope this is helpful!

@@PiecesofTaraArtistry thank you Tara, I sincerely appreciate your answering my questions. Please excuse my ignorance, however, I was intending to, on my first comment, to advise you, to take some time, especially after the FAE, to be kind to yourself and give yourself some tender care and love. After all, you put a lot of your time and energy into each class and every student. So your energy will be depleted. Spoil yourself, you’ve earned it. With love and blessings ♥️🙏💐💐💐

So to be clear you add pigments then gac 100, then gloss, then GAC 800? No water. Right? Thanks so very much!
@PiecesofTaraArtistry
@PiecesofTaraArtistry 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Christine…so after I make the paint with the pigment, gac 100 and gloss gel THEN I add my pouring medium of 50% Floetrol/50% GAC 800. After mixing that I check consistency and if it needs to be even thinner I add in GAC 800 to thin and maybe a couple drops of water. Hope this is clearer. 🙏🏻☺️❤️

whats the difference between Gac 100 and 800? TU
@PiecesofTaraArtistry
@PiecesofTaraArtistry 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Adeline! They are different polymers used for different applications. The GAC 100 is described as “GAC 100 is a thin, translucent, gloss medium. Useful for thinning or extending colors as well as increasing flexibility. Wets out solids more readily than other polymers and is useful for creating homemade paints.” Whereas, GAC800 is more of a pouring medium. Here is how goldens website describes it: “GAC 800 is a low-crazing extender for pouring acrylic colors. "Crazing" is the formation crevices in surfaces that develop as acrylic paints and mediums dry. The addition of GAC 800 promotes drying with a smooth, even film, good gloss and flexibility, but with moderate clarity.” If you got to Goldens website you will see that they have GAC 100-900 and they are all used for different techniques and purposes.
