------------
In this Broadcast Award-winning, BAFTA and Emmy Award-nominated entertainment show, Taskmaster tyrant Greg Davies (Man Down, Cuckoo), with the help of his loyal assistant Alex Horne (The Horne Section and the show’s creator), sets out to test the wiles, wit and wisdom of five hyper-competitive comedians.
Comedians that have risked life, limb, and dignity in the hope of making the Taskmaster proud so far include: Frank Skinner (The Frank Skinner Show), Mel Giedroyc (The Great British Bake Off), Romesh Ranganathan (Asian Provocateur), Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered), Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones’ Diary), Rose Matafeo (Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner 2018), and Russell Howard (The Russell Howard Hour). Unaware of what awaits them in each wax-sealed envelope, only one competitor can become the victorious owner of His Royal Task-ness’ golden head and be crowned the next Taskmaster Champion.

I want to know how long Mawaan's marble rolled for. I'm counting pushing the button as the release mechanism for the marble! Let's say you had a marble on a ramp and a sort of gate blocking the marble, then you removed the gate to let it roll, you'd count that as releasing the marble. Even though that's not when you physically set the marble down.

That's actually pretty common in marble runs. I think the spirit of the challenge is to have the marble travel the longest via it's potential energy. I.E. No outside introduction of energy, which is why the leaf blower and the washing machine aren't really allowed. I would say the washing machine is ALMOST cleaver. except that it's not one of those solutions that makes you go "WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT." I think it's more that most people would have thought that wasn't allowed. But really he should have been eliminated for the fact it was spinning not rolling as it wasn't making progress, if what he did was allowed then the obvious solution is to get something with an electric slow turning motor and prop the marble up in a way where it just spins in place. but that's not ROLLING.
@user-zz3sn8ky7z
@user-zz3sn8ky7z 6 ай бұрын
Actually it wouldn't have, since the ball wasn't operating on a single axis, but two. It's extremely, cosmically unlikely for it's velocity in a direction perpendicular to the tract to also be exactly zero at the precise moment it's velocity along the axis of the track became zero. In other words, it was almost definetly moving either ever so slightly to the right or left as it was turning, which means it was still moving

"After releasing the marble, you may not touch the marble *nor do anything to affect its movement* " If Alex had rolled it back and forth, that would have been 'doing something (telling Alex to roll the ball) to affect its movement. @megasora4
@megasora4 Жыл бұрын
technically it wasnt. greg was convinced by the others that the run started when he let go of the marble, when in fact the run started once the washing machine began to spin. "once you release the marble" is the main point they clung onto, but all of them released the ball for their own "test runs" with alex only starting the clock once the marble was actually going for the offical run, which he delayed on the washing machine till it actually started spinning. too bad it would only have spun for a few seconds before coming to a stop and changing directions, as most washing machines do, thus ending the run.
@lunabelletheinsane
@lunabelletheinsane 4 ай бұрын
@@megasora4 Disagree - it was against the rules. Because Mawaan didn't create a run at all, which was the first part of the task. Also, the washing machine wasn't releasing the marble - it was literally forcing it to move. The marble had no other option but to move, not because of gravity, but because it was being forced to move by the machine. The point of the task was to make a run, and have your marble move for as long as possible using gravity, because that's how a run works. Finding a loophole by helping the marble run in a machine, which is outside forces because the marble has no way to stop. If Johnny couldn't use a leaf blower to keep his marble rolling (if it had worked), then Mawaan can't use a washing machine to keep his rolling, because the marble isn't rolling on its own, it's being forced by something else. Plus, once he put all the protective stuff on, his marble couldn't roll anymore as evidenced by the loud bangs the washer was making.

@@whereisedgar8905 Yeah, but the marble couldn't stop, so it was being influenced to keep moving by the washing machine. As for the track - no one called it out - if someone had - they'd be DQ'd too. That was up to Mawaan to point it out I think. The marble wasn't moving until he turned the machine on - and it had no way of stopping (presuming the washing machine worked like a dryer and just kept going in the same direction). I would have disqualified Mawaan on the principle that he didn't create a marble run at all - he just put his marble in a washing machine. And it wasn't rolling, it was ploping around because it could no longer roll. So no points made complete sense. Other than the fact that he had to do something else to make it roll once he released it, and yes, letting go of the marble counts as releasing it. No, starting a washing machine does not count as releasing it, it counts as forcing the marble to move via something else other than it's own gravity. He was DQ'd on multiple levels, actually.

Definition of release: allow (something) to move, act, or flow freely OR set free - and starting a washing machine is doing neither of those, because the marble was not free to move on it's own, it was forced to move as long as the washer was moving, it had no way of stopping on it's own until the washer stopped. Also - it wasn't rolling, it at best, bounced around the washing machine, but in reality, it was kind of plopping or sliding around as soon as the marble got high enough and would flip or fall towards the bottom.

When the timer started is irrelevant. It's up to discretion, and technically, Mawaan released the marble when he let go and used the washing machine to force the marble to move - the marble had no way of stopping until the machine stopped. That's outside forces. To release something is to let it flow or move freely - forcing it to roll or move around in a washing machine is not releasing it. He also did not create a run at all, which was the first part of the task. The washing machine is not a run - and his marble also, never rolled, it slid, flopped, bounced and made loud clanging noises, but it could no longer roll on its own.

@@lunabelletheinsane You could also argue that the point of release was turning on the washing machine. It is moving freely inside the washing machines movements and you can release something you don't personally have contact with, say he actually created a run with a pulley door as an example, basically a release mechanism. Adding on once he starts the machine he has no influence over the machine. The main point I would say is the not creating part. Because defining if its rolling(to turn over and over) in a washing machine is up to interpretations and pretty hard to judge in the washing machine.

With the same logic as "he pressed the button after he put the marble in the washing machine" Daisy "guided the marble by holding onto the scaffolding" honestly Marwan was robbed
@katharina...
@katharina... 2 жыл бұрын
Naah, it's not the same. She released the marble and it started rolling. He released the marble and it did nothing. It only started rolling after he pressed the button. If it was possible to press the button and release the marble at the same time (say if he used one of those very old washing machines with an open top or a cement mixer), his idea would have probably be the winner.

He failed at arguing the rules which is crucial skill in this game, especially when you skirt the rules. He should have argued that setting down the marble was part of the setup and pressing the button was the release mechanism.

Actually, when you look at katherine's marble run you can see it stopping multiple times. Every time the marble changes direction it has to come to a full stop. It might be just for a split second, but a full stop nonetheless

when you try to be clever and it blows up. Would they have accepted it if he had started the washer and then let go of the marble, maybe by cutting a hole in the door.

well the washing machine wouldn't have worked anyway. I haven't seen a washing machine that didn't stop after a shortwhile to then start again and then stop. but i did think it was wrong to DQ him. because technically that lady who used the large ruler thing released and pushed the marble. Thus affecting it. meaning she broke the rules. also, the task states the marble run must be gravity "fed" which it would in a washing machine. its afterall gravity that makes it fall down from the panels on the rolling thingy.

Are no physicists going to mention that Kathrine's marble stopped several times? When any object transitions from positive to negative velocity at some point in time that object has zero velocity. Basic calculus. Her attempt should have just counted for 2 or 3 seconds.

Katherine's time was WAY lower since the marble came to a complete stop for an instant on the first reversal in direction. Bit late to the party, but the fact that it starts moving again half a dozen times shouldn't have been relevant to a harsh judge with an awareness of physics. :-)

He should have gotten 5 points. The reason he didn’t was because they other competitors said he turned on the machine which interrupted his marble run. This is not true as the run only started after the machine was on - the the clock started
