In this video, Dr. Chris Sovey demonstrates how to make your car seat more comfortable and decrease back pain while driving. This may also help hip pain while driving or neck pain while driving as well.
We discuss and demonstrate the use of props such as lumbar support or a wedge to improve your pelvic positioning.

I am truck driver. I have seat at least 5-6 hours and take brake 30 minutes, and keep drive again my next 5 hours. Thank you, I will try your suggestion.

Three of us watched this together and found it helpful. I recognized all my signs of bad posture in the car that I wasn't sufficiently aware of. I 'm going to try to rolled towel myself

Thank you. I recently switched from an Equinox to a sporty sedan that I love but believe has been the culprit of my back pain. I'm truly debating selling it and switching back to an SUV. Going to try your tips and see how that goes. Thanks again.

have the exact opposite problem as your model, im short legged and the headrest is most above my head [vw] arcing forward and pushing me into that worst possible position for a sore neck. *a vid on sitting right to avoid neck pain -and include SHORT people* would be super!

Take a roll of paper towels, adjust the size and put a rubber band around the roll. Then put the roll between the back of the seat and your lower back.

That car seat wedge looks perfect for me. Can you tell me what company it is from? Most cushions are made of memory foam and they really don't support you. I have been looking for the one in this video but I can't find it.

I just bought a 2023Toyota Corolla, and I have that exact pelvis/lumbar problem. Ironically, the car I drove prior was the same Prius in this video, but my back felt fine in that car.

I have lumbar spinal stenosis but sit in passenger seat as don't drive but there is lumbar support in drivers seats in nissan qashqai so hubby as support but I don't 😢

I hear because I just leased a 2023 crosstreck and I’m getting go much pain when I drive. The car doesn’t even have lumbar adjustment which is ridiculous. I thought all cars had it as my old 2008 Ford Edge even had it and it was the lowest model. Now I’m in a very big pickle

I got chronic low back pain. I am uncomfortable in most cars. 2008 ford fusion is pretty bad, but the New Ford Impala is one of the best. It is all about the my knees getting higher than my butt. Toyota Sienna is pretty good. I drive a 1995 GMC Vandura Van which I find to be the most comfortable. When things get really bad I lay down in the back where I have a bed. No more sports cars for me.

I think you mean Chevrolet Impala? I had a Chevy Cruze (2012) most comfortable seat ever. Buick Encore had great seats in 2019 but the new GX was issued very thin seat cushions and you feel it. I hear you on low back pain. I wanted a Hyundai Tucson and the seat feels like I'm sitting on a steel beam, no real padding under my bones. Chevy Equinox has HORRIBLE seats, very hard. They say seats are subjective but not really when they have zero support.

agreed doctor, most of new car seat isn't proportional and ergonomic and i really hate it. and the headrest design is awfull, i still had a backpain and shoulderpain because of it, still suffering while driving my 2016 toyota nav1. i allready turn my headreast and it doesn't help. why car manufactured nowadays created car seat design to be back breaker. im sorry to say but mostly i have bad experiance with new car. 2010 toyota yaris, 2014 honda crv, 2015 honda jazz/fit, 2015 toyota innova, 2016 toyota nav1 i hate thoose car seat.

Im looking for a new SUV now and I am feeling so deflated in that I cant find a car that doesn't cause my neck immediate pain (I have degenerative discs). I survive with my current SUV with a tempurpedic car seat pillow that I stuff behind my back. Between car seats and head restraints, I feel like I am driving in a concave position

Try a toyota sienna if you need room for your family. I don't think it looks very cool but I have driven one and was surprised that the seat did not hurt my back. It also drives very well. You can't beat Toyota. They will last forever .

OMG these new seat and head restraints are a nightmare ! Went from a perfectly fine 1998 Sienna to a 2014 Tuguan. WHAT a mistake ! I can hardly stand to drive longer than maybe 20 mins and the head rest is making my neck hurt so much it is unreal. All the dumb people say "Oh just more your seat back then it wont hit your head ! Of course it does because I am still sitting in my seat !! Duh. No help from VW or any of the forums. Yet so many people are having these problems. Also I do not want to sit back, I want to sit up !! Anybody know of a wedge that can keep my upper back a little more forward from the seat back - and be fire resistant !! I am slim like the lady in the film and her head is really being pushed forward ! Maybe if you are a beefy person you are deeper in the back part of your body and this keeps your head away from the headrest.

Something I did to my 2018 Camry was flip the headrest backwards not telling you to do this because if you got in a rear collision it would be very dangerous I did put mine back to right way after awhile it can be very annoying when you try to look back and all you see is the headrest blocking your view.

I can relate. The bottom cushions of most new SUVs I've sat in are so HARD! I swear if I took the seat cover off I'd find an inch of padding over a steel structure. I've looked at probably 12 different SUVs and it's awful. We bought a 2019 Buick Encore with leather and it is seriously the most comfortable and fully padded seat I ever sat in. The vehicle is small though and it's the only great feature. The next design came out (Encore GX) and they shrunk the padding in the seat in half. I am thinking it's to save MONEY and not for really safety issue. Hard to spend $30-$40K on a rock hard seat. They can't be padded aftermarket as it's got air bags in the seat I was told.

I hate my 2015 honda fit seats. They're known to have very uncomfortable seats with no lumbar support whatsoever. My old 2007 Maxima had the most comfiest seats

We need to voice complaints to car manufacturers. I've bought cars for years and always had supportive/comfortable seats, no issues. Now shopping for new SUVs, even with all the tilting power seat options, it's still a line list of lousy support, light padding options. By the way, they aren't 'head rests' they are 'head restraints'. Car dealers are good at correcting us when we've said 'head rests'. Custom car places won't redo the seats either due to air bags inside the seats. Thanks for doing a video, not enough out there to talk about the seating issues.

Yeah, I've yet to find a car seat that''s just "flat". They all have this bottomless ass pit that you fall down into and it's hurts the hell outta my back and I don't even have back problems. I can sit in my office chair at work all day and no problem at all, get in a new car seat and pain begins. I have an old prius 2005 with a flat seat i can drive for miles. best bet is to drive a larger car with flat seats, or a truck. All cars i noticed are very uncomfortable now. I had to return a brand new mazda because i had the same problem as the lady. My head hit the roof when i tried to drive with a cushion. Only option now is to keep getting my car repaired over and over and drive it into eternity.

hopefully this may help me . i have back pain from long time and recently bought toyota highlander xle 2018 . believe me or not driver seat is so uncomfortable that right now i am thinking to trade in for another suv and loose lot of my money. if your trick work in my case i will be able to save thousands of dollars. it looks sensible to me at this time whatever you said. i will post again if it work for me. thanks for your advice

The Impala has the best seats. Both driver and passenger seats can raise up. It makes all the difference in the world. I also drive GMC Vandura van. It is very comfortable. I like the Toyota Sienna. I sat in an 80.000 dollar Audi and I was horrible for my back. don't know why all cars are not made with passenger and drivers seats that raise up. I think I recall the Highlander seat feeling like it is rounding out in the lumbar area. It bothered me. The seat looks good but they messed up somewhere.

Lol! I drive a 2017 Toyota Tacoma and hate the seating position with a passion. I sat in the Highlander while the oil change was getting done In the tacoma. Felt like heaven on my butt, hips and legs. Now I'll have to try it out again to see if it feels like heaven. Lol

@@Capronice the impala was a 2010 I think. Bought it used so I'm sure that didnt help. The shifter had to get replaced. It would show something on the dash and the car would stop for like 45 mins. Leaving me stranded a few times. A few other things cant remember. It had 120k miles in it. Now looking back on it. Glad I have a Tacoma lol. Even if its uncomfortable.

Some cars when approaching a decade, the foam get compressed. Give you back problems. You can compare it to passenger seat and driver seat

Margaret is built like me, tall, thin, long legs. My PriusV cripples me. I've tried all sorts of pillows and cushions, and none fit the seat properly. The headrest is MURDER. Next step is to get rid of the car, which is a a great loss and hassle. I've never had this problem and I've driven hundreds of thousands of miles in lots of cars. The Prius is horrible.
