Makerfire Wltoys 124018: How to Keep your Motor Cool !

3 жыл бұрынWltoys 124018 buggy from makerfire is an awesome runner. I added the fan and HeatSink to keep the 550 brushed motor cooler during hard runs. Specially during those summer days here in California, this fan and HeatSink will definitely cool the wltoys 124018 motor down by 30 to 40 degrees . If you decide to use the 1/16 wheels I that I used on the 124018, make sure to put a washer on each side before you put the lug nut on. This way the lug nuts will tighten up all the way and leave no play from the wheel to axle. Thanks For Watching & for everyone’s amazing support! Nice upgrades, man that's a quick truck, awesome tip on the shocks I learned that one the hard way. Hopefully the newbies pay attention. Good solid info, tires look nice. Thank you Lou for the nice comment brother. I try to put fans on all my RC’s just because it’s so hot here in California during the summer. Even if it isn’t summer those brushed motors gets super hot. The WLtoys aA979B overheats a lot when the motor gets too hot then it shuts down. So I have to run a fan on it as well.I’m just surprised that the buggy and this doom buggy model both are overfilled. Usually they’re under filled or no oil at all on most of their models.Thanks again Lou and have a good weekend brother.

@@BIGDRONEFLYER77RC Hope the doc gets you fixed up soon ! I let my doc wait too long before my L3 L4 collapsed completely about 10 years ago. I still have pains shooting down my left leg . I'm sure I'll have to get them fused before too long . Lets hope 2021 is a better year for us both brother !

That’s the hard part number four and number six are trying to fuse do two herniated disc’s and deteriorating disc disease. So this new back and neck injury that I have is creating new herniated disc so it’s really got me messed up bad that’s why I haven’t been putting out the videos as much anymore. Awesome mod Donnie. Those cheap brushed can motors get really hot so a fan or even a passive cooling radiator helps a ton.

Nice improvement, You can use the one battery that runs the truck just run the fan off the + & - wires of the esc by splicing the fan wires into it.👍

Thanks Steve for stopping by, exactly. I wanted to see if the fan was much of a difference before the final finish. I just can’t believe that little ESC don’t put out enough power to run the fan. It won’t even turn it over. That’s why I spliced into the lights, it was already too late and then I realize not enough powers coming out of there. Oh well it’ll give me something to do later on, I just have so much to work on. I still need to work on my Xmaxx again.

I have a question and a tip How did you fit the heat sink on the motor? Did you use a dremel to cut it and what did you use to adhere it to the motor Not sure if you did I could t tell but I removed the back plastic plate under the spare tire and the motor has gotten cooler than before.

I've got the brushless combo on the way with the 120a esc with fan and wondering if the esc with fan is going to fit ok without having to cut out to much but will see

The tires I’m running or from the Q901 1/16 scale. But you have to add a washer on the outside of the wheel before you put the lug nut on. Or you’ll have play in the wheels. Thanks for watching and have fun with yours.

They do make a heatsink that has a fan on it or one that’s fan-ready. It really helps.

I know they do David I just using what I have laying around the house at the moment. That’s why I was saying this is just a prototype at the moment. Thank you for having enough sense to list and link what you used. These videos are a joke when guys can't be bothered to include that info. If all else fails, remove the "interior" piece that blocks air flow. The stock tires are pretty useless for something that is considered to be OFF road. Does Makerfire give fast shipping to the US?

I was thinking of doing the same with my 124018. Did you try powering the fan from the ESC where the led lights plug in? That was my plan. You say it doesn't have enough power, but did you try? And how do you know there wasn't enough power? Thanks! 👍

I already tried it you could see where I spliced in and even tried without the LED lights and it wouldn’t even turn the fan. Once I plugged it into the 2S Battery it worked perfect. So that esc is not putting out enough volts for that fan I’m running.

This esc will not support enough power to run a fan. That’s why I used a small 2 s battery to power the fan. The only other way is to jump from the power wires of the car, but I would just use a separate battery like I did. I live in an area that gets in the 100 degrees F, so I need to cool the electronics. It’s not necessary in cooler climates.

Yes It’s a 550 brushed motor. Any 3650 can should fit in there.

Not by much, it just keeps the buggy more Stable from flipping over unlike the stock tires do.
