I'm printing the stuff I need to start with this system and I'm really excited! But I have to tell you that it's really overwhelming the amount of things we need to learn and the way things are presented is so confusing. I feel like I have 10 tabs open all the time to go back and forth and figured out what I might need and where to download it from. The thumbnails all look alike and I don't think I found anywhere a straight forward way of saying: look, this is what you need to do and these are the many possibilities you can do with it: If you want to organize things using shelves and stuff, click this and download this, if you need stuff to hang tools etc, click here and download this, this way people would really know how to start and could branch out and create their own unique way of doing things, right now I feel like I'm required to already know a lot of concepts and have a clear idea of what I'm going to do with the system. This video does a great job at explaining the basics but it's just too much information for just one video. I think a great addition to this "GET STARTED" part of the knowledge hub would be a tutorial where you would actually prepare what you need for your space, actually mount it to a wall demonstrating all the steps and using the tools available and creating a simple initial set up with a few available options of accessories to showcase the possibilities. I'm printing the tiles now but I'm still a bit unsure about what else I need. Should I print the multitool? Is it required to get quad snap thingy? Or should I just print a bunch of duals and go with that? How do I find a file of an accessory that will mount a shelf to the board? Do I have to know about honeycomb or pegboard before starting with this? I got my first 3d printer a week ago and I'm deeply invested in learning everything I can and I know it's a process, but I also believe that you want to attract as many users as possible to your system and as a beginner this is how I'm perceiving the introduction right now. I understand that producing videos and tutorials on top of everything else requires a lot of time and effort, but I believe a simple and direct way to introduce and really show how to install the system would be the best way to get way more people on board since there are so many options out there when you start with 3d printing (like I am at the moment). Anyway, great job, the system is really amazing! I'm supporting the project because I really believe it should grow more and more. Thanks and good luck!

Multiboard looks amazing. You've done a great job. But as a newcomer, having watched the video I'm now more confused than before I started. Have you considered a, more _focussed_ video where we are simply taken from knowing nothing to showing a basic starter-Multiboard being printed, assembled and fixed to a wall with some items on it? This video seems to jump around to "you might want it this way, you might want this thing, you might want that thing", "you can do this, or do that, there are longer versions of this, there are shorter versions of that, T-nuts, not T-nuts, different mounts...."... options options options... I get it - it's super flexible. But for a Multiboard noob I don't need to be confused by all that, I just need "get me up & running please." I suspect like many people I would have preferred a concise real-world guide: Print these four things. Fit them together this way. Screw them to the wall like this. Mount your chosen items like this. :-) Again though - thanks for fantastic job with Multiboard.

Also very confused. It is very strange how connecting it to the wall is explained. Something is suggested, then said he don't use it, then suggested something else and called it the standard and explained it in an overly technical way.

It’s nice seeing stuff like T bolts being adopted more. So many people are stuck on traditional metal fastener designs cause it’s what they’re used to, not realizing a huge part of why nuts, bolts, etc are the way they are is because it was easier to manufacture that way. Screws don’t NEED to be a cylinder they’re just easier to make that way in metal.

I like this idea and the look of the grid is attractive, I can see the effort that went into this. What bugs me however is with over 700 parts does that not defeat the purpose of the system in the first place ? Sounds like I could print a special bracket per part and skip the peg board. Punting the grid and the parameter driven mounting clips for people to design there own attachments would make more sense. The grid itself also needs to be universal as in you don't need a center, corner, or side piece one piece fits all and hand full of adapters to mount and extend the grid.

The website + Thangs linking back and forth is confusing and the same basic info is repeated everywhere, making it hard to get started. It might be worth putting some kind of digital grid-builder tool on the website where users can pick from usable parts (bins and such) and put them onto the grid, choose a mounting style, and have a part list generated that includes all of the connectors that are needed to achieve the desired result.

I feel like while it’s cool to see/hear about options, tips, etc. it would have been clearer to me how to use the basic system if you’d started with how to set up specific use cases first. Like “this is how you build a wall mounted peg board” and then “this is how you can make a free standing organizer”, etc. Then having a separate section for mounting options, tips, advanced ideas etc.

Great job, I think you made a much better mouse trap. Problem is this is very confusing of which part to use where and when. You have a starter pack that may show it off better but it's behind a paywall. You are basically marketing to users of the Honeycomb Storage Wall and Gridfinity which is completely open to the community and looks like made better by the community and want them to switch over to the Multiboard and bin system but pay to do it. I get you put a lot of time into this, and again this is really cool, but this only really makes it if the community gets behind it and can contribute to it. Sorry, not trying to knock your work, this is actually really amazing and I'm glad you made it. I totally get you wanting to get compensated for all the time you put in on this project, that's always the tough part of open source and community driven projects. But your also trying to make all the parts your own the way you would use it then release it all at once instead of releasing the core parts and have the community help you make it a much bigger better system. I have printed out some of the parts (evidently not all the ones I actually needed, very confusing on getting bounced from your website to thangs) and will see how it fits together. I look forward to seeing where this project goes.

I actually fully agree. I'm in the exact spot where I could start using this system. I have a new 3d printing room I want to organize, and a clean slate to start with. If I go with the gridfinity system, all I have to do is print the grid and then find the bin I want. Super simple. If I want to go with this system I need what feels like a ton of different connectors, at least 3 different types of grid tiles, and special hooks or standoffs or whatever that only work with this system. It may actually be pretty simple, I wouldn't know yet, but it FEELS overwhelming and feels like if I don't pay I have to do a bunch of extra work to figure out what pieces I need. I wish there was just a "Start here print this and work from there" type collection. Because If I wanted organizing to be this stressful and overwhelming I would just do it the old fashioned way. At the end of the day I'm having a hard time seeing what I will actually gain for all the extra effort of using this system over gridfinity and a pegboard.

same here.,@@reallyanti Im all down to start printing this stuff, but until I get my hands on some of it I dont know if its worth the paywall. I get him charging for the stacked plans, but I think his starter pack should be free so that people can just get their hands on it and see if its for them BEFORE we pay for the rest. and if he is the only one making parts for it thats not ever going to keep up with gridfinity or hex. I dont want to spend 5 bucks (or even the discounted 2.50) on something I dont know if Ill use. Ill happily pay for the conveniences if I am going to use this system, but right now im not sure how it works for me. I dont feel comfortable just picking through all these files and trying stuff. Maybe I need to just go manually copy the parts from the starterpack outright and snag them each individually, but thats pretty lame to paywall when its already done. its like charging for the demo. dude, that starter pack is your demo. charge for literally anything else. It looks great and you deserve to get paid but i dont think this is the way to do it, even for your own sake of selling more.

What's the go with larger freestanding vertical boards? I'm keen to add a tool wall to the back of my workbench (just a garage shelving unit with MDF tops) and wondering how tall I can go, and how much support it'll need. It'll mostly be for cordless power tools - drill, driver, jigsaw, palm router, angle grinder, etc. - with bits, fasteners, batteries, chargers, and so on. Nothing individually over 5kg, and I can spread the heavy items evenly across the bottom half of the board to keep things stable. I can print 90° brackets, drill thru-holes for thick floor-standing dowel posts every X cm, screw-and-glue angled wooden supports, or I guess even mount a fully braced ply/MDF back wall but that seems a bit overkill. Any advice on best bang-for-buck strategy would be great!

I really appreciate your hard work and effort that you’ve put into this. And I’m not trying to hate, but rather leave some constructive feedback. First of, more isn’t always better. Sure, I get that you’re trying to make a solution for everything, but it just makes things more complicated/complex. (Also why I abandoned your precision modeling Blender course after 10 lessons without actually any modeling in it.) Yes, it’s all important stuff and has a good reason being there, but it’s not beginner friendly when you need to research and print several fasteners, bolts, whathaveyou if all you want to do is hang up some scissors. Also, I don’t really understand why you didn’t went with Gridfinity or at least Gridfinity compatible system instead of the multigrid. You could’ve still design lots of adapter plates and connectors for the multiboard with it. You might disagree, but watching this chaotic getting started guide it seems like there’s still some work to be done to better introduce the system to newbies. Maybe make a more structured version and add some use cases (or make that as separate videos) where you actually build out a wall or stand with parts. Would really like to see the system work out and stay for the long run. And hopefully use it once we’ve moved. 👍

Mounting was hard for me because of too many screws. If I did this again, I would just assemble the whole thing then put a left top mount, but not screw whole the way to keep it rotatable, then level the panel and mark the other holes and then drill the holes. After that I would put just few screws at the bottom to keep it aligned to surface. Note to the creator: Make sets, like 4x3, 3x3, 6x8 whatever, so people will not get lost while trying to figure out if corner, side or core tiles are needed. Also mounting sets for each one is required.

@SolBro2
@SolBro2 7 ай бұрын
What I ended up doing is importing two of the stl's into Fusion and setting the offset distance. I then just imported that into the slicer. But you can obvoiusly stack as many as you want to print in your CAD software. You can also do this in the slicer. Add one grid and in the objects tab right click on the grid in the left pane and click on add part and import another grid. This allows you to adjust the Z distance for the second import. So just select the second part in the objects pane and move it up (For me, when I inport the second grid the part is iported way off the build plate, so I just set the X Y and Z to zero, and start from there). For the second grid, it needs to move up 6.70 mm ( 6.50 (Grid height) + 0.20 (Offset)). You can do the same process for as many as you want to print, but just adjust the Z distance for each one so that you have that 0.20 mm offset between each one.

Very cool! I'm looking for a system to combine holders for paint (that I already have) and I was trying to see if your system had shelfs that would be suitable for Warhammer miniatures, but I couldn't find any mail to send the question and didn't see any long shelf on the website ether... You run a business and it's not clear how to contact you? Please answer me and I probably be a subscriber. ;-)

Looks awesome but I don't see any benefit from forking gridfinity as I cannot imagine usecases for a horizontal honeycomb (sorry, multiboard :P) and then a "gridfinity fork" baseplate on top of that... why? :'( it would be so great without that addition
@Keep-Making

Sorry to say that Gridfinity was just not possible to do full cross compatabilty (Due to strange dimentions) even after weeks of trying. Multigrid for sure has much more to come and it already does everything grifinity can do and more in my opinion. So it's not a fork as it has pretty much nothing is the same apart frombeing "bins" and "stakable" and if thats a foke then 20% of stl are forks 😅

Oh as for usecased of Horizontal ... You can littraly build a bookshelf Multiboard or under your table both of those are horizontal instalations. Truth is the only limit here is imagination and creativaty

Imagine if someone told you that you could build ANY Ikea furniture you wanted FOR FREE (some restrictions apply), then pointed you to a warehouse full of individual parts in bins labeled in Swedish for every Ikea part ever. "But don't worry, it's not confusing!" they say, while doing their best Billy Mays impression. Then they launch into a scattered and ill prepared livestream during which they frantically reach for parts (often the wrong ones) with no evidence of preparation and build the most basic Vikhammer bedside table. That's Multiboard. It can be figured out (no thanks to this video, the website, or the Thangs page) but get ready for a table-flipping experience unlike any Swedish furniture build ever. I really, really want to like this and hate to be negative, but I'd delete this video and the website, then start over with usable tutorials and documentation.

Also something like: Don't only use Quad snaps, use the 2 way ones, or you will kick out the board from the snaps and onto your 15 mm mounting. I really like this project, a lot, but OP definitely needs some help organizing the parts and the doc.

Watched the first 7 seconds... complicated describes this whole thing so far. So confused as to where to start with all the different iterations and significant version changes that have made everything before the changes... obsolete? I don't even know the current state of things and how many generations are now outdated. Wish there was a video explaining the timeline, changes, what is outdated, and where things are now. Have paid a subscription for Monthhhhhsssss, wanting to print the organization tools I'm paying for... but have been so overwhelmed that I haven't even printed a single piece.

I was interested in trying this out as I need to print some more honeycomb walls, but as soon as I started looking at the files, I saw stuff hidden behind a paywall. The open community is what made honeycomb and gridfinity popular. The stuff hidden behind a paywall had turned me off of this.

Close-ups: use them. You've got frames where the interesting part is happening in 1% of the area of the screen Colours: use different ones for different parts. You had white on white on white when showing the stand-up setup Testing: do it with your explanations on other people. I've watched all 3 Multiboard videos, the first one twice, and still have significant questions and points of confusion.

Please open the system all the way if you truly want to make it a community hiding some of the parts behind a pay wall doesn't send the message that you want this to be a community. I will happily tip you when I use the system. My workspace is not organized enough to justify building the system yet but I would like to tinker with the system in the mean time and invest my time into developing parts that people might find interesting. Yes you invested a lot into the system and it shows. But if this truly becomes a community then the community will out invest you in short order and make things better than you alone can. Please open all the parts including the configurable bins and publish a white paper with the design rules and fundamentals that will allow people to design the features from scratch. Just offering remix options is not enough to foster a community. Please don't try to play both sides. If your videos are entertaining or highly informative then you will find patrons a plenty but the multiboard system is better suited to a transaction based cost. Asking for a tip when printing a large system is totally reasonable and I will happily tip you $10 when I end up printing a system. Until then show us that you want this to be an open and thriving community by being as open and transparent as possible.

Honestly this is the only thing that has me a little hesitant. I am printing some out to try since I do like the idea of being able to use the pegboard but the HWS and Gridfinity is open and the community has made so many attachments that it's almost a standard. Plus Hexagons are the Bestagons :) The only way this will take off is if the community gets behind it and makes everyday attachments for it and you start to see all the other makers using it and showing it off. Otherwise this will be really a better product with very little use. By the way the stacked print option is behind the paywall but I just went into Bambu slicer and stacked two of them with PETG in between so they will separate cleanly. Print should be done in about 5 hours so lets see how this works. I really do think this is a better product, I just hope enough people in the community get behind it so anytime I need something for my specific use I can do a quick search and print it or at least have the files in STEP format so we can modify them easier then STL to create our own custom part and give back. Also it seems you can only use the pegboard holes if you don't mont it directly to the wall, thing is it is not as stable with the mounts when you don't attach them directly to the surface of the wall. I saw where it says the Honeycomb Wall can support 1kg but these can support 18kg but I'm willing to bet that's only if it is attached directly to the wall. How much will this support if isn't connected to the wall surface?
@ChrisHolcomb21
@ChrisHolcomb21 7 ай бұрын
OK, so the stack print with PETG as the support worked great. I need to get a different color PETG to make it easier to know you have peeled it all off, but other then that it pulls right apart and all the PETG starts to pull off like a scab. Still not sure if I will print more this way though since I like to have all the pieces showing the textured plate surface. But if you need to print out a lot and don't want to stop and keep clearing the bed each time this does work.
